I have been rocking the iPhone 12 Pro for 4 years now and each year I find myself debating on upgrading or not. Needless to say, I have not upgraded (obviously). I am not sure exactly what it is, but maybe it is due to the fact that phones are now like TVs or Laptops and are simply at a mature state where they can easily last several years and still be a worth using.

I am leaning towards upgrading this year to the 16 Pro and my wife is also ready to move on from her iPhone 13 mini. I will say though, that the excitement is long gone from the days where it was an event to get the new iPhone. I think they last time I felt that was the iPhone 12 Pro 4 years back.

Thoughts?

Yes, have a 12 Pro, ordered a 16 ProMax this AM. Will pass the 12 Pro down to my son, who is on a 7 now. I feel like there are enough upgrades between the 12 and 16 to make it worthwhile for me. Looking forward to the new features.

I did finally decide to upgrade my 12 Pro 128 gb to the 16 Pro 256 gb.

I also decided there were enough upgrades in the last four years to warrant this change.

Hopefully this 16 lasts me until the 20 or 21!

13Pro user here and was initially quite set on upgrading. Main reason was that I thought that it would be nice with USB-C and a new battery. But tbh, my 13pro is still doing pretty well in terms of battery so prob wont. Might wait another year, we'll see.

Each new iPhone is very similar to the previous generation, so there isn’t much to get excited about.
But if you wait many many years, then the new model will obviously be a big improvement over the obsolete iPhone you’ll have by then.

The 12's are hardly obsolete.

I will be heading to the Apple Store tomorrow or Saturday to get the iPhone 16 Pro to replace my iPhone 12 Pro. The last 2 weeks of travel for work left me very frustrated with my 12 Pro battery life and decided it is time after 4 years. I will use the Verizon promo with the 12 Pro trade in as will my wife who will trade in her 13 mini.

I updated from a 12 Pro to a 16 Pro mainly because my 12 Pro had a small screen crack and the lightning port no longer worked. Overall, I'm relatively happy. The 120mhz display makes it feel zippy and smooth, and the USB3 charging is handy so I can share that with my iPad and Macbook. Battery life is certainly better. The camera on the 12 Pro was pretty good, but the macro capability on the 16 Pro is a nice touch, as is the 5x telephoto. Overall, not disappointed, but the updates/changes seem quite small and incremental and I likely would've stuck with the 12 Pro if it hadn't been broken! At the same time, the fact that it's all so familiar and there was very little learning curve, is appealing.

Finally moving on from my 12 PM and ordered the 16 PM. I’m pretty excited about the upgrades I’ve seen in multiple reviews.

Picked up my new iPhone 16 Pro last night to replace my iPhone 12 Pro. For me, this is a big upgrade in many ways. The first and most noticeable difference is in performance o the device. My old iPhone 12 Pro became very laggy with IOS 18 especially and the battery was not good. While I cannot comment on battery life on the 16 Pro yet, the iPhone feels very snappy, responsive and much smoother to use. I have not had a chance to use the cameras much yet, but I am sure they will be a nice upgrade. Overall, no regrets finally moving on from the 12 Pro.

I am still deciding whether to upgrade from an iPhone 12 - mainly for longer upgrade life and an irrational fear all iPhone 17s will be larger. I am not really interested in AI and take maybe 10 photos a year so the upgraded features aren't all that important to me.

The iPhone 16 Pro screen upgrade is a big one coming from the iPhone 12 Pro which was a similar screen to the 12. My wife and I both instantly noticed a difference in clarify, colors and the 120hz is noticeable in a way I never believed it would be. We also noticed how much better the speakers sound as well. I think the upgrade is well worth it from the 12 and if the iPhone 17 is that big of a jump you can always upgrade in the future.
