Didn't Apple say a few years back that no screen protector was needed, and even went as far as to remove them from stores?

If I recall, what they were saying was, that screen protectors aren’t necessary, they’re optional given smart phone displays are generally durable against Minor objects with little impact . I’ve never used screen protectors on my phones and even if it has minor hairline scratches, they’re hardly visible. It’s just like a protective case for a smart phone, it’s an optional accessory, you don’t need to purchase one. It’s merely added protection, but the display itself is perfectly fine against most slight impacts with keys, coins, ect.

I don't even do that. I always go caseless and just get AppleCare.
I was a caseless person until iPhone 6, I find the phones too slippery and I feel better with a case. Now that they are finally back to a more squared design I may use my phone naked again.

Is it really necessary to prove that most anything can be scratched if you try hard enough,. what a waste of time and iPhones...
How else would people know if the manufacturers claims are accurate if they aren’t tested? Yes, things like this ARE necessary.

A screen protector can solve that issue without adding bulk or changing the look of the device. The drop protection means maybe going without a case and enjoying the actual design.
Not a fan of those either. I'd rather just pay a little to fix my phone if it gets messed up.
