Discovered a bug on the new 12 mini that doesn't happen with my iPhone 12 pro. When you put on the Apple OEM leather case, the quick action camera and flashlight buttons on the lock screen don't respond anymore. Take off the case, work perfectly, case back on again don't work. Weird.

As an additional test to see if it might be just my particular mini case and the NFC wigging out, I put the mini in my Apple OEM leather case for my Iphone 12 Pro, yes it obviously doesn't fit properly but the mag safe lines up and the phone recognizes it, it has the same effect. Rendering those 2 quick action shortcut buttons non functional, pop it out of there and naked it works as it should.

So strange, anyone else notice this?

Yes I do!

This is crazy. I also have an iPhone Mini but I use a 3rd party silicone case without MagSafe functionality. Just a plain case.

and I exactly have the same problem - as soon as the case is attached the Lock Screen Buttons don‘t work anymore. Furthermore if you wear a mask and the number keyboard is displayed you can hardly type anything to unlock the device.

this must be a software but then, no? Let’s hope it’s not a general issue with the magnets...

I’m not experiencing this with my iPhone 12 mini and blue leather case. Everything works as it should.

Are you using a screen protector or anything that might be interfering with the touch?

yes I use a 9H Spigen Glass protector but without the case attached everything works like a charm. as soon as the case is attached it renders the lockscreen literally unusable.

as of now I don’t want to remove the protector as I managed to attach it without any dust underneath :)

@danmanmtl Do you have a protector attached? maybe the issue is fixed in iOS 14.3 Beta?

I am using the blue apple leather case (both on pro and mini), I have a screen protector on too, none of this happens on my exact same setup on my 12 pro, same color case and same screen protector. On the mini I dont think its the screen protector as it works fine when the case isn't attached, and fails even if i put it in the oversized 12 pro case! Then when I remove it works as normal.

So it must be the case then? This is crazy. Maybe we can ask MacRumors to get this twittered. I am curious on whether or not this is a Software bug...

my blue mini with california poppy leathercase works without problems

I was thinking its got to be a magsafe issue, I cant understand how it would happen without a magsafe case? As in my environment thats the only thing that changes. I am going to pick up another case and see later if it does it.

I have also ordered three different new silicone 3rd party cases. They will arrive tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday :/ I will keep you guys updated.

@danmanmtl Would it be an option for you to remove your screen protector to see whether it just doesn’t work with a case?

I am also having this issue with the MagSafe Silicone Case and iPhone 12 mini. Using an ESR screen protector.

Edit: just tried it with a speck case, does the same thing. I'm going to order a non-glass screen protector and see if that fixes it.

I have the mini with an ESR glass screen protector and a caseology parallax case and I’ve been having the same issues. I have a 2nd caseology parallax case and exact same problem. Take the case off and all is fine. I have ordered a spigen ultra hybrid so will see what happens. The caseology case is black and covers a slight edge of the screen so I wonder if this is the cause.

I also took the phone half out the case and it seems to be fine, so something to do with the case it seems.

full ack. Exactly the same behavior here. What happens when you remove the screen protector?

Haven’t attempted to take the screen protector off, got it on perfectly the first time!

Remove the screen protector and your issue will likely be gone. I say this because I had the ESR protector on, and it caused issues with touch sensitivity.

Swiping up from the bottom before face unlock wouldn’t work as it should, pressing numbers on the keypad when on a call would double press certain numbers amongst other issues.

I had the same ESR screen protector on my IPhone XS and it worked perfectly with a case so not sure it’s the screen protector, seems like an issue with the phone

New here, but I just wanted to chime in that I have this same issue. I have the Otterbox Defender, Caudabe Sheath and the Spigen Liquid Crystal and they all do the same thing. I do I have a Spigen Galstr EZ Fit Screen Protector. I haven’t tried it without it yet. I did a full reset from scratch and that didn’t help either.

Screen protector it is. I wouldn’t believe it nor can I explain it. As the phone functions perfectly without the MagSafe case and a screen protector installed. No issue. I removed the screen protector and it works perfectly. Pretty frustrating to say the least. I also tried another screen protector to throw more money into this aggravation, this time an otter box alpha glass one and sure enough as soon as protector installed it didn’t work when in the MagSafe case! WTF! So I removed that one :S and it works in the case again. So the choice seems case and no protector you get Lock Screen function, case and protector no go, protector no case perfect functionality. Head explosion. Debating if I want to pay Apple for one of their screen protectors to say gotcha?! I’m already in the hole for the two wasted protectors, maybe get apple to waste some of their protectors?

Spiggen Credit Card case and a Speck Presidio and two different brands of screen protector. Same issue. If the case is off it’s perfect, if the screen protector is off it’s perfect. Can’t have both.

Can hardly type in pin code, answer phone calls or use the quick camera button.
This has to be software related right?

I have the same problems, and I'm using a plain old non-magnet case.

Funny. My flashlight and camera buttons don't work WITHOUT a case. They show the tap animation, but the light does not come on and the camera does not open. I can still open the camera by swiping left.

The bug appears to be regardless of case or screen protector brand:
