Some people are happy with a 2014 design for a still highly priced smartphone, but I'm not and I think a lot of other people will not be either. So the 12 mini it is, with a big enough screen and XS-like battery life.

so you went for one with an 11 year old design that harks back to the iPhone 4? ;)

I’m an architect and being able to take a scan of a room / building when visiting site is really handy. Much better than a load of photos.
Well that's good to hear! I have been curious about this very thing. One architect to another, I have been relying on a site survey point cloud model. While I know the tech is similar but the process is different, would you say the iPhone's lidar is good enough for measuring as-builts in a pinch?

I’d say it depends what you want the info for. For me, the practical alternative would be photos / videos of spaces. Neither of those can be measured at all. The accuracy seems to be good enough for most things, but if you wanted to scan a room for setting out some precise built in joinery (for example), I’d be concerned about relying on it completely without also doing some verification dims.

Here’s another thing: I’ve often found when visiting sites that there is always something I forget to take a pic of that I later need. Having a 3D scan means I’ve got everything covered in some fashion. Very handy.

Oops, sorry, had to edit this. I've had fatigue lately. I was referring to the general design, especially the front and the screen and how it compares with the smartphone market these days. Apple had to go modern.

Blame the Samsung S8 for that. It really upped the ante and set the direction to be followed. Every manufacturer had to do the same to be competitive.

The look of the sides is like the iPhone 4 and 5 but I like that.
