Same here.

.... The battery size is the big disappointment here (I was hoping for the same as the 11), but I imagine the overall battery life will still be a lot better than my 7, so I'm ok with it. (The 2020 SE has a 1,821 mAh battery, A13, and LCD, so I'm guessing the 12 mini with a 22% bigger battery, A14, and OLED will be decent.)

I don't think anyone, especially the author of the article, knows enough about the 12 mini to make any calls about battery life. The iPhone SE with its 1624mAh battery is over 1000 mAh smaller than my iPhone X - but they both have the same 13hr battery life (according to https://9to5mac.com/2020/04/16/iphone-battery-life-compared/).

Rumors suggest that the ‌iPhone 12‌ Pro Max will also be the only model to have faster mmWave 5G.

I'll be very surprised if this proves to be accurate. I could see only the Pro models getting mmWave, but Verizon is too large and powerful to get stuck being unable to promote 5G on iPhone 12 for almost the entire year of 2021 that AT&T and T-Mobile will be able to push iPhone 12 Pros taking advantage of 5G.

Now, if only models in North America end up getting SKUs with mmWave this year...I could see that. Just depends on yields, rather than size though. But it would explain the conflicting rumors saying that mmWave is/isn't coming.

Genuinely the first time it's been this wide open for me ahead of a launch. Right now I could buy any of the rumoured new four, or stick with my 11 Pro Max for another year.

Now I'm not travelling during COVID - phone is no longer my primary device for a while longer - it's feeling a little too big & the weight difference vs others is noticeable.

The original iPhone SE had the best battery life of the whole line-up, due to a smaller screen with less pixels, the display itself consumed less power and, because it powered less pixels, taxed the cpu & gpu less, despite having the same A-chip and the smallest battery. I dont know why Macrumors ignores this fact when saying it would have less battery life on the battery size alone...

But you're right, what the mini's (rumored) battery capacity will mean for real life usage is up in the air for now. My guess is it will be less than the iPhone 11 but better than the SE - and probably closer to the former than the latter. I think we are going to be impressed with the efficiency of the A14.

Stoked this is coming out the same year I decided it's time to replace my 6S. Perfectly happy to give up LIDAR scanner and uber premium screen to save costs. I don't really care if I have uber high screen quality on a phone, though OLED will be a nice feature for nighttime use and battery life.

More money to spend on my my OLED TV :)

In addition, although rumors have been highly mixed on some iPhone 12 models having a 120Hz ProMotion display, rumors about the iPhone 12 mini not exhaving a 120Hz display have been consistent. If the feature does appear for the iPhone 12 lineup, it is likely to be reserved for the Pro models or even the Pro Max model only.

Oops! Looks like MR invented a new word.

It’s not for me. I still have my 5s, and that thing is laughably small. If Apple removed the above mentioned features from the Max and put them in the Mini, I’d still get the Max.

The only thing I care about in this list is battery life, and only if it's going to be worse than that in the current iPhone SE, since that is what I'd get if my 2016 SE stopped working.

My 2016 SE's battery is already pretty bad, and more so with iOS 14, so my expectations are low.

Anyway, given the acceptable performance of iOS 14 on my 2016 SE, I will probably not be waiting in line to upgrade. I'll upgrade only if there are positive reviews. Otherwise, I'll just wait till my 2016 SE stops working.

I would be uncomfortable being on an old OS, but that's just me.

I don't like the idea of "making the smaller one dumber feature-wise". I'd pay the price tag to have a full feature smallest model. Why do would I need to use between "better colors" and "convenient in pocket and can be used with one hand"?
That's not even remotely in the cards. The entire history of every product line at Apple indicates bigger = better & more expensive. There is no fighting this concept, even if you personally value portability above all else.

Larger devices are in many cases required for certain features or combinations of features.

Larger devices, portability bullet point aside, are more useful and are simply "more device". Therefor you pay more, and get more.

There is no context whatsoever for smallest also being "best".

Release it NOW! My SE is dying.....
If I were in your situation, I would buy the new SE. It's cheap and a very decent phone. Otherwise, we are talking unknown delays for the new one, especially with the rumors of a staggered release pointing to a delay for the 5.4" and 6.7" models.
