I saw that 12 PRO has a Yellow tint issue - https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/yellow-screen-tint-display-seem-warm-check-here-first.2262691/

People are also wondering if 12 mini will have it - https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/mini-yellow-screen.2267137/

The answer is: Yes! (the mini has a yellow tint). When I first turned on the device, it said "damn it". I knew the display was not right. After comparing settings with my XR, I can confirm.

See attached picture showing tint on 12 mini.

Not sure what to do now. Might start with Apple Support ticket.

I have friends who bought a 12 / 12 mini. If it were not for COVID, I would compare displays with them. But unfortunately I have no reference devices of the same model.

I tried all the settings. The 2 devices have the exact same settings and a huge noticeable difference.

My wife and I each received new iPhones Mini today. Mine looks normal; hers looks yellow.

Our settings look identical, but when we both have Night Shift on, her screen is far yellower. With Night Shift off, they’re mostly the same.

I can confirm that the iPhone Mini screen indeed has a yellow tint. At least the one that I have definitely has.

I am comparing it to iPhone Xs which also has an OLED display and the difference is significant.

Both devices with disabled Night Shift and True Tone.

Go to Accessibility, Display & Text Size, Turn Color Filters On, Turn on Color Tint, Set Intensity to 0, Set Hue to around 60%-75%. That should get it pretty close to your Xs.

Do you think Apple could fix that by software?
If you’re referring to the general yellow screen issue, I’m not sure. I think it’s a problem with current OLED production, as Android OLEDs are reported to also be rather on the warm side this year. I don’t think it’s plausible for Apple to intend the screens to be warmer. Every smartphone manufacturer wants screens that are as neutral and color-accurate as possible, given the important photo/video use-case. Any intended change in screen coloring would be done via UI design and features like night mode and true tone. The color temperature can in principle be corrected by software, but probably only at the expense of brightness. That being said, color calibration is tricky and requires specialized hardware equipment, and it seems obvious that no proper calibration takes place at the factory level. My guess is that Apple is glad they are getting working displays at all in the huge quantities they require.

Could it be the color profile that can be changed with an update for instance ?
Or a bug related with True Tone that doesn’t turn off completely ?

It’s not impossible, but to me it doesn’t seem likely.

I’ll tell you what to do, but you won’t like it. Put away the XR and start using the Mini. There is not a damn thing wrong with it. Comparing any two screens side by side is pointless, as they all vary to some degree.
What if the whiter screens are the defective ones and everyone is returning devices with perfectly fine screens hoping to get a defective one‽ 🤯

You would have to explain why people comparing with their calibrated computer monitors find the screens to be noticeably warmer. :)

Your definition of “huge” difference and mine are two different things.
Exactly. I own an iPhone 11 6.1 and a Mini. I tested different 11 Pros before, all had very yellow screens. My Mini is way less yellow than those 11 Pros I have seen before. LCD displays I had a look at or owned were all colder, sometimes reddish, sometimes blueish, rarely white. I also like that colder color better, but that is just a matter of liking. OLED screens are always warmer. To me your Mini looks very good, esp when compared to an LCD screen. You are actually lucky. As said there are really yellow screens out there and from this photo your's seems good.
