It's good that the yellow tint is "consistent" across units. I hope Apple pushes an iOS update that tweaks the default color profile on the iPhones. Still annoying that the phone is incapable of displaying white color.
They won’t. If you don’t like the tint your only option is to full retail return then rebuy, or stick to an old phone. A software fix has been hoped for and prophesied about since 2009. I can 100% assure you that apple gives zero f’s about this issue.

I don't think rebuy will fix it. 12 minis in store have the same tint. 12 (non-mini) seemed to be better. But Apple better pay attention as I am seeing lot of posts about returns. iPhone sales are already down 20% YoY.

I saw that 12 PRO has a Yellow tint issue - https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/yellow-screen-tint-display-seem-warm-check-here-first.2262691/

People are also wondering if 12 mini will have it - https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/mini-yellow-screen.2267137/

The answer is: Yes! (the mini has a yellow tint). When I first turned on the device, it said "damn it". I knew the display was not right. After comparing settings with my XR, I can confirm.

See attached picture showing tint on 12 mini.

Not sure what to do now. Might start with Apple Support ticket.

I have it too, heard Apple will dump low quality screens first, and replace with good ones later, also in stores there are bad yellow tinted displays the first week. Make sure you go in Apple stores next week to compare, and directly ask for a new unit. This is not acceptable. Certainly not for the price, and not for the fact that the screen is one of the main selling points on any Apple device.

Here’s mine compared to my old 2016 SE.

This is why I think a software update will be the fix here, not endlessly exchanging phones in a screen lottery. These are new screens and True Tone doesn't seem to be well calibrated to them. All 12's need the base colour profile to be knocked slightly towards pink with a less aggressive True Tone.
A software update won’t be the fix because all screens are apparently calibrated differently. A software fix will be device wide, and doesn’t account for individual devices, hence will make devices with a perfect screen now, too blue.

There are simply units released by Apple that don’t meet quality controls. Later those devices won’t be released but this happens because they’ll know people won’t mind that much and are happy with their new devices, more so than people who’ll buy later.

I submitted a formal support request through Apple. They ran logs and are having engineers look at it. They did mention that this issue has been reported by others. So at the very least, they are aware. Hopefully there is some sort of fix.

Please update this thread when you hear back from them.

I really don’t understand this complaint from people who use True Tone. Every time I try True Tone, it just looks like the most hideous piss-yellow filter. Now the screen is just more yellow baseline, but not even close to what True Tone results in even on cooler displays.

how would you guys consider this 12 mini on left? Text looks crisper than really yellowed units that have faded / soft looking text

not the hugest fan of the color tint but doesn't seem nuked with yellow

its only one I have seen, at an AT&T corporate store:

I went to both Costco and BestBuy locally to compare my yellow screen to the display models. Checked a total of 5 phones and did not find one that has the yellow cast. I also checked the accessibility settings, etc to make sure they hadn't previously been calibrated. I have a replacement on it's way.

Please report back about replacement unit. Curious if it has the same issue.

I am curious the first three of the serial number for the Minis in this thread with a noticeable yellow tint? Mine starts with C7C. I wonder if that can lead us to the right direction.

My Ip 12mini was very yellow compared to Ip 7. After turning off TT and NS and turning on the color filter and light adjustment, it's ok . But I'm going to go compare other models to the store to make sure the display isn't faulty.

yes i also have the same yellow tint issue on my iphone 12 pro max

Replacement received, and I can say that the screen is "moderately" better, but there are still some piss yellow viewing angles. Interesting thing of note is that the original screen appears the same regardless of the angle I'm viewing it. On the new screen, the color shifts as I change the viewing angle. Some angles it appears the cool white you would expect, however when looking straight on it still has the piss yellow cast. Not sure what to do at this point

People saying the mini is more "right" are just wrong. Maybe if you're looking at two blank white webpages it looks fine that the colors are warmer, but try looking at actual pictures of people and it looks unnatural. As a very pale person it's quite jarring and makes me look sickly.

Right. Most, if not all, minis seems to be affected. I compared mine to the display models at the local apple store. Mine was noticeably worse. But they all seemed to be at least slightly discolored. Same with the 12 pro max. A couple of the 12s and 12 pros had decent screens however.

I have 2 "replacement" Minis coming today. Hopefully one will be better.
I ordered 2 different colors to increase my chance of them being from a different production batch lol

Will only open one of them, if it is better than mine. They will both go back if they are not.
And then i'll probably just give up and try to live with it until next year.

Well i got 3 Mini now and they are all almost identical. One seems to be a tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny bit less yellow and that is the one i have been using for almost a week.

So i'm starting to think that this is exactly how they are supposed to look and my X has just gotten too cold over the years and my Mini will too.

But True Tone is definitely "overtoned" on these phones.

I tried to take some pictures, but it was impossible to capture what i'm actually seeing.. somehow the camera seems to be correcting the colors or something.

But long story short: I'm going to keep my "old" Mini.
And obviously feeling bad now for needlessly ordering and returning phones...

I'm heading to the apple store today at 3pm to exchange my 12 mini.. I'm hopeful that I can get a good screen but it doesn't sound promising.

Interesting discussion. I have true tone on, and my Mini seems fine. The whites are slightly warm with True Tone on, and I just tried turning it off and it turned quite cold/blue, as it would do on my 11. Did I maybe just get really lucky?
