I picked up an iPhone 12 Pro yesterday, it did not work with my wireless upright charger that worked fine with my iPhone 11 Pro in an Otterbox Defender case.. After taking the case off the iPhone 12 Pro still didn’t charge.

Today I went to the Apple store to pickup the new MagSafe charger and give that a shot (figured it was out of alignment) but it didn’t work either with their new MagSafe puck in store, case on or off.

They ran diagnostics which showed everything was fine but replaced it anyway.

The new iPhone 12 Pro works with the older charger now, and I’m going to return the MagSafe puck as it sticks to the phone (without a case, requiring two hands for removal) and doesn’t work with an Otterbox Defender Pro case on (didn’t expect it to, but figured I’d mention it).

10/29 - 2 days after picking up the replacement iPhone this new one required a hard restart as wireless charging stopped working.. uggg

I wonder if it’s worth inquiring with Apple support about...? It seems like a wide spread issue after a quick search...

I tried to turn off 'Optimized Battery Charging', and restart my device. Upon restart, the option is re-enabled. I'm unsure at this point if this is related to an iOS14.2 bug or not. I cannot get my phone to charge wirelessly. When I place it on my QI charger, it say's it's charging(shows lightning bolt), however the battery doesn't actually charge. Using a cable works fine, however.

Both my husband and I bought iPhone 12 pros 256gb his was graphite mine silver. We had the same issue everyone is describing where iPhones would not charge on any wireless chargers we had in the house including our 300.00 nomad pads and apples new mag safe chargers. the only way we were able to get them to charge is if we restarted our phones it was ridiculous. we called apple over the phone and they sent us to the store to swap out the phones since they were within the return period. when we brought them to the apple store I showed them video of what they were doing and they gladly swapped the phones out and also replaced the screen protectors I had put on the phones originally. They said that you should not have to restart the phones for wireless charging to work consistently and that they would be sending both my husbands phone and my phone to engineering since they were from the same Batch and think there is a known issue since others had also came in to swap on previous days. Since we had the phones replaced I have had no issues charging on Any of my wireless chargers and regardless of what case I have on the phones. hope this helps go to apple and have your phones swapped out.

From Apple’s website. Anything greater than 20W will work.

Set up your MagSafe Charger

  1. Place your MagSafe Charger face up—as shown—on a flat surface, clear of any metal objects or other foreign material.
  2. Connect the USB-C connector on your MagSafe Charger to a 20 watt (W) or greater Apple USB-C power adapter. Your MagSafe Charger needs a power adapter of at least 12 W of power, and your iPhone charges less quickly when using a power adapter that provides less than 20 W. You can also connect to a USB-C port on a Mac or to third-party adapters that comply with applicable safety standards.

thanks for sharing your experience. If I’m not mistaken the wireless charging coils are in the exactly same position as the 11 aren’t they? I was under the impression that maybe the charger would be the issue but I’m starting to think it’s the phone itself and may need swapping!

I am having the same issue and thought it was only me. I have to restart my phone each time to get the wireless working again. It works without a case but when I have a case on, I get nothing.

Same here. I have two Anker chargers. Both worked yesterday with my 12. Now only one works.
So I kind of looked into this a little more. I have a white Standup Anker charger that I use on my desk with my previous Xs with no issues but fails with my 12Pro. That charger is model number A2522 Powerwave 7.5w. My sons have a black one so tried with those and sure enough those charge my 12Pro just fine. No issues at all. That charger (which looks identical to the white one I have) is named Powerwave Evo (10w) and the model number is A2525. So clearly slightly different internals (one is 7.5w and the other is 10w which Apple won't allow Qi charging above 7.5w anyway). Also I found that if you place the phone slightly off center on the White Anker charger it will start the charge then slide it back into the middle and it will stay charging. There must be some additional metal that Apple placed in the charging coils that this charger simply does not like. Hopefully this info helps.

Piling on, my Pro Max won't charge on any of my chargers that my 11 Pro was totally happy with - Ubiolabs combo phone/watch, Anker standalone stand, Ravpower standalone stand - while in its case (Quadlock). It does still work without the case. Did Apple just obsolete 5 wireless chargers for me to accommodate Magsafe?

Just to pile on the issue:

I'm having some issues with qi charging on my iphone 12 pro max. I'm using 12.2. Certain qi chargers either charge very slowly, or charge for a sec and stop charging.

I'm using the same exact type/brand of case as my previous 11 pro max, which worked fine across the board without any issues. I'm wondering if the iphone 12 pro is having issues with qi charging is with the case or if it is with the qi charger?

Has anyone run into qi issues and have figured things out? Right now I'm using a Caseology Parallax case, which has no issues on my cheapo CHOETECH charger, but has issues on my nomad charging station pro, and all anker qi chargers.

I would have guessed it's the case, but it's very thin and works perfectly on some chargers. Anyone help would be great, I would rather not buy a new case or new chargers, until I can better identify where the issue lies. Taking the case off seems to make things better, but I'm curious why cases work fine on some qi chargers and not on others.

Has anyone had success with the Nomad Charging Station pro's new v1.1 firmware? Charging seems to be slightly better in terms of being able to work at all/consistently charging, but speeds seem very slow.
