The 12 mini form factor could be quite popular if price is decreased and battery capacity is improved. It has a bigger screen than the current SE in a smaller form factor, which means there's a market for that screen size.

Remove MagSafe and make it a single-lens system to increase battery capacity, and limit to only sub-6GHz 5G to keep cost low.

Love my iPhone 12. I’d been on a Samsung the last couple of years waiting for an OLED display in a non-top-spec iPhone and the 12 finally checked all the boxes for me. Great screen, perfect size, takes great photos and videos. Not surprised at all the 12 line has been selling so well.

Or make it a pro model…. But anyway I do agree the mini did contribute to the good sales, i think many who were interested in the mini May have opted for a pro instead but the mini got them looking…. I still love mine and wish apple would keep this form around regardless of sales…. It’s not like it has not been profitable, huge base of people that love them, if they really want it to be a super success then give it differentiated features other than size, perhaps at least a telephoto lense

Everyone upgrades because they see 5G but meanwhile I'm actually seeing slower speeds in some instances and at best it's about the same as LTE if you're not using mmWave. But then again, mmWave you have to be careful that you don't even put an umbrella between it and the tower (small box on the side of a building) or it can drop your speed quite a bit. 5G seems fairly gimmicky to me so far.

I bought a 12 mini, my first new iPhone since the 7. The 12 series cycle reflects the longer ownership cycle of phones...and the fact that performance on the older phones (in my case an original SE) is getting to be "not great."

Hoping it's the next SE. Make the screen LCD and they can probably keep the $399 price point.

I don’t think it’s primarily 5G or OLED, but people needing a new phone. My Kareoke friend was on a iPhone SE for ever (he has money, trust me), but he just hated the feel of the newer iPhones and the sizes. He just upgraded to a blue iPhone 12 Mini and brags about it every chance he gets.

I am surprised though because I thought the iPhone X would have been up there with 6. Personally, neither 5G or the camera improvements are enough to get me to upgrade from my X. Working from home using WiFi and little bit of mobile data that I use when I’m on the go 5G is just a dud.

I still standing by my planned upgrade which 2023 or 2025 and the next upgrade likely happening in 2027 which would be 20th anniversary.

Probably should mention all the government money handed out over the last year…. That probably had more to do with these sales numbers than anything else

Agree. Normally you never see the "free iphones" but now all of the big carriers are offering deals bringing the price to free or almost free.
I have Sprint/ Tmobile and upgrading my gf from the 11 pro to the 12 pro cut her lease payments by $15 a month. So it was cheaper to get the 12 than keep the 11.
For my dad and roommate who are also on my plan, trading in their iPhone 8 made their 12 and 12 mini free. They had no desire to upgrade, it was only because I was pushing the 12 that they even considered it. I assume I'm not alone in that.
Also, didn't have to change from my Sprint plan, it already included 5G and tethering for free.

It is hard to estimate how many 12 mini buyers would have just bought a 12 instead if it wasn't available. I know I would not have. I know my friends girlfriend would not have. didn't exist.

In general I agree, especially if you specifically bought the Mini just because. But realistically, if you needed a new phone, what would you have bought instead?

I see a lot of people online hanging on with their lives to the original SE, but sooner or later people will need to move in. If they can't buy a Mini, they'll buy regular or SE. I don't see the majority moving to Android.

The iPhone 11 matched it and is still the best iPhone on the market. 5G is a lot of smoke and mirrors for daily practical use.

I’ve had 5g turned off since day 1, simply Did not need it, lte Has been plenty fast for me on tmobile in S.C…… maybe one day I will need it but doubtful it will be anytime soon, unless they simply start degrading or cutting lte off

I think it's 5G and a good range of sizes.
And also the iconic flat edge iPhone 4 design and having OLED screens on all models. Essentially the regular iPhone 12 models have been upgraded from mid range status to Premium mid range. Honestly though, the 12 series just excellent across the board. Also when you look at how all the Android flagships have all shot up in price, the 12 series are actually very good value for money for what you get.

iPhone 12 super cycle confirmed (umm, supposedly), App Store revenue jump(supposedly), Wearables seeing continued growth(supposedly), Mac Sales last 3 quarters has been best of all time (this quarter will be __??__).

This explains why Apple's stock which has been sideways for several months but is seeing solid upward movement in last week or two. But this wouldn't be the first time stock went up on news that ended up false/overblown.
