T-Mobile told me that standalone 5G is not yet available on iphones. They said it would come in a future update.
I'm not sure it's available on any phone yet in the USA. Maybe some of the Samsungs.

I did try a T-Mobile physical SIM along with my T-Mobile eSIM line in the iphone 12. 5G will work on either line but will not work at all if both lines are turned on. You must turn one of the 2 lines off to get the remaining one to work on 5G. If both lines are active, they will both be LTE. Apple has said a future update will allow 5G on both lines when both are turned on.

1 month later with 12 pro max

still can’t get 5G when I want both my sims active (1 e sim and 1 physical)

crazy that 2 main features of iPhone can’t be used simultaneously

Was suppose to be an update by the end of the year but not sure that will happen.

That was never "Officially" stated. It was speculation and from supposed (never substantiated that I'm aware) leaked documents.

Don’t worry about it. Just our luck it would drain the battery uncontrollably and the complaints would come anyway.
5G in 90% of instances isn’t faster than LTE for now, and by the time it is, you’ll be on to the 13 Pro Max Ultra

Seems no one in Apple or other official were interested to enabling dual sim 5G for iPhone in this country, not even talked about it anymore. Why it is so different that Apple can make it active on dual physical sim iPhones, but not on esim iPhone here, is far beyond my understanding. What a big disappointment.

Probably feature rationing for next year’s iPhone 12s. However, some countries have mature 5G and dual-SIM is essential. iPhone 12 sales would be negatively affected if dual-SIM weren’t made available for certain regions.

IMHO, 5G in most of the USA is way overrated and used by the carriers as an advertising "white lie", just like AT&T started using 5Ge a year ago. I bet all I've got that I'll be waiting years before I see anything better than the LTE that I've got in my area of home and travel.

If the speeds are the same as of now, and the battery life is better without 5G dual sim, why would you want it so badly? Tell me it’s not the 5G logo....

In Australia we don’t have mmWave but the 5G network 95% of the time is much faster and less congested than the 4G network.

What are the battery implications? Who would be the first to complain if the battery took a hit ?

There are no battery implications as the radio time is split between two SIMs. Lots of people are using 5G+5G with no complaints.

Any news on this topic? I apple planning this or is it just wishfull thinking?

I have a feeling its not going to happen. I bet battery life would take too much of a hit.
That would be a shame. I think OnePlus (using the same modem) implemented a fix. I don't know what impact it has on battery life though. Would be nice to have an option perhaps with a warning of increased battery drain.

I like to use Dual-Sim for travel, but also to get increased coverage. Apple's automatic cellular data switching is awesome for that. While many say 5G doesn't make a difference, I DO see a significant improvement in my T-Mo coverage at home.

Where I used to get max 17mbps download and like 1mbps upload, I'm now seeing ~40-50mbps download and 3-12mbps upload while at home. My house is a cellular black hole, so I can confidently say the 5G has helped. BTW... if I turn off 5G, my connection slows down again. There may be more at play, like perhaps a different radio band in use or something... but there is no question my connectivity is "faster" when on 5G at home.

The battery hit is just a guess. Not as bad on a IP12 Max but could be major on a 12 mini. Maybe that’s not the issue.

No reports of battery life issues from China. The U.S. models simply don’t have the feature enabled.

shame this hasn't been resolved yet... maybe there surprise us when 14.4 is released and update it to work just for final release :p

Works great on 14.5! Ironically, picking up 5G now where it would only show 5ge when I turned off one of my lines. Battery life on par with 14.4.
