I managed to find a Pacific Blue today and there's a scratch or a little divot in the stainless steel frame. Already returned to the Apple Store. Seems like their early batches of new phones always have some kind of QC issue. I know I've had issues in the past on launch phones.

I received my brand new iPhone 12 Pro on Friday. It was factory sealed, and when I opened the box, there was a one inch scratch right below the camera array in the glass back. I have included a picture. Unfortunately, I now have to wait until around Thanksgiving until I can get a replacement due to backorders. Great QC!
Received my iPhone 12 Pro wednesday after 3 and a half weeks of waiting. Right out of the box,
I immediately noticed that the backglass had a scratch (able to feel with my finger).

I called Apple (since there is no Apple Store nearby and the closest one is shut down because of the pandemic) and they told me to either live with it, send it back and get a refund or send it back and wait another 4 to 5 weeks to get a replacement.

I sent it back to get a refund. I can’t wrap my head around the fact that a 1608$ phone (in Canada with taxes) comes with scratches right out of the box. I’ll keep using my old X! 🤷🏻‍♂️

As an update, apparently FedEx is going to take responsibility for the damage, which is complete crap since Spectrum is just taking advantage of the situation, so I should be able to finally return my phone after being stuck with it for a month. In the meantime, I decided to get an iPhone 12 mini since I felt the Pro was too big. This has turned into a fiasco as well in regards to defects. See below for a list of defects with the iPhone 12s I have received so far. I understand these things are churned out in the thousands per day, but if you're going to let your quality control take a back seat to production, don't charge a thousand dollars for one of these things. I'm even an Apple shareholder, and this is very disappointing.

1. iPhone 12 Pro bought from Spectrum Mobile: Scratch in back glass, dimple in OLED screen when viewed under bright light, white dot in the ambient light sensor.

2. iPhone 12 mini preordered from Apple.com: This one arrived UPS on launch day directly from China. It had a large speck of dust in the wide camera that would move around when the phone was tapped. Also too, there was a dent in the side of the aluminum to the right of the screen, and the paint was chipped off too. I immediately returned this iPhone.

3. iPhone 12 mini picked up on launch day from the Apple Store near me which luckily had it in stock. I got this one home and it seemed to be mostly good. There were a couple small scratches in the back glass, but I guess that's what you get when Apple doesn't wrap their phones in protective plastic anymore. There were a couple small specks of dust in the front facing camera and wide camera, but they were tiny and I was just going to live with this phone. However, I gave up when under bright light, I noticed a smudge-buff mark in between the glass and OLED screen, which looked like a clearcoat hologram on a car when the sun hits it. The area is about the size of a quarter below the left side of the notch. I contacted Apple customer service and now they are going to send me a third mini. She was nice about it and will take $150 off due to all the issues I'm having. Hopefully "third time's the charm" for the mini.

Really sorry to hear you are going through all this trouble just to get a phone in pristine condition. My iPhone 12 which arrived on 10/27 was perfect out of the box as far as I could see, and that was after thoroughly inspecting it for any damage, trapped dust, or screen issues like dead pixels or backlighting problems. I did not have to do any exchanges like I had to in the summer with the iPad Pros. Reading all these posts about people experiencing issues with their phones makes me feel I got really lucky this time.

Hopefully Apple is able to take note of all this and does what is necessary to really tighten up their abysmal QC lately. There is absolutely no excuse for these products to come out of the box in less than pristine condition, especially with the premium prices they charge.

I received my third iPhone 12 mini today. Unfortunately, it had the uneven volume button issue (volume down button sticks out more than the volume up button) a lot of people are experiencing. I decided to give up and will keep my mini with the smudge because at least it’s not noticeable 99% of the time. I’ll chalk it up to the fact that Foxconn was having staffing issues trying to meet demand. Oh well, there’s always the iPhone 13.

lol. if you press the volume up button and it feels mushy compared to the volume down button. that's an issue. phone is over $1000 dude, you should at least expect buttons to be even.
Which it was, lower and mushy. If you do a search on Google, there are numerous complaints regarding this.

Wish I hadn’t seen this thread. Now I noticed there is dust under the screen in my front facing camera. Dang it. Thinking I’m going to make them replace it. The 12 Pro is too expensive to have this kind of quality.

Most iPhones I’ve had over the years have had dust in at least one of the lenses. Interestingly enough, the iPhone SE 2nd gen I bought to temporarily replace my Xs which got fried, was the best constructed iPhone I’ve ever owned. The mini with the uneven buttons had camera dust too on the front facing camera lens edge. It’s pretty common, as indicated by numerous threads if you do a search online. Unfortunately, you get into a game of roulette when you start returning these things since you don’t know what the issue(s) are going to be with the new phone. I tried three times and figured things weren’t going to get any better.

I had a small barely visible scratch on the screen of my PB 512 12 PM. It was so small that I had to look for it to see it; but it was always there. It was a bummer but I sent it back. Direct purchase from Apple w/ Apple Care+. I hope my replacement ships soon. All that to say.....I understand the disappointment but don't envy the hassle with spectrum/fedex.

I never buy iPhones from carriers since AT&T charged me $35 for the privilege of returning the phone within their 14 day policy years ago.

I heard back from Spectrum this morning. Surprise surprise, they told me FedEx denied my claim, so the only option they gave me was to return the iPhone and get hit with a $350 damaged return fee. I told them to shove it as I reported this info to my VISA card when they requested additional information from me regarding why I hadn’t returned the iPhone yet. Now I wait for VISA’s determination.

How did you do replacement?

I’m probably doing that will that affect my iPhone upgrade program approval for next year ?
If I remember correctly, you posted the other one about some damage to the RIM right? Just put a case over it and move on. I'm sure down the road if there are hardware issues, Apple will just replace it. Why go through closing out your loan and reopening your loan and go through another credit check? Not worth it imo.

If you do decide to return it for a refund, they will close out your old loan and you have to open a new loan and if you were to get it in September, then you have to pay at least 12 payments by then. Also check with Apple I'm not sure if the iUP falls under the 14 days or till 1/8/2021.

Yes, who knows what Apple will do in 2021, whether go back on a normal track. It's up to you, since it's your device. But not worth a waste of my time to go through all that, plus what if the new one you get have problems?

I was going to request fir a replacement after I return this one but they won’t do that
If I were you tho, I'd just keep it, you are on iUP, you aren't keeping that device anyways. When the new iPhone comes out, you are going to upgrade it, so why bother? Technically while the device is yours, but it's not 100% yours until it's paid off, you have a loan on it.

I'd definitely understand it if you purchased this in full price, but for something you are going to upgrade in less than a year, definitely not worth it. I will say I do have a tiny nick/dent on my 12 Pro Max but I'm keeping it because it's in the case and it's barely visible but it's there on certain lighting but I'm not going to care about aesthetic.
