Guys, I've suspected for quite sometime that the brightness level on my 13 is not bright enough.

I've got the auto-brightness setting on and also the true tone setting on.

Today my wife got her iPhone XR. Her screen brightness was so much brighter than mine. I checked her settings to mine and they are identical.

Has anyone else noticed the brightness issue on their 13?

Is it charging or doing something that can make it hot like being in direct sunlight for an extended period of time? I've noticed that the OLED screens will dim when the phone gets hot.

Your iPhone is defective

Disabling Auto Brightness Will fix this issue but isn’t practical

This is a common issue with Apple OLEDs. Get it swapped. New one should be fine.

Guys my bad! I have an 11 not 13. A bit of wishful thinking I think!

The phone isn't charging.

Here's a picture of the difference. Guess which one is mine!!!

The phone is an 11. Will they still replace it?

Have you tried manually adjusting the slider in the control center? Also it looks almost like the phone on the right has true tone off because of how blue it looks. Yours does look too yellow to me but maybe that's just the picture. Also check under "Night Shift" there is a slider to adjust the color

Turn auto brightness off and it will go very bright

The phone on the right is the XR and the true tone was on as was auto brightness.

My back ground pictures is leaves with the sea in the background.

If I increase the brightness, wouldn't that override auto-brightness?

My night shift brightness bar is in the middle.

Uhhhhh. Am I the only one who noticed that the brightness sliders are at different values? Of course the one on the right is brighter..

That's my point. Both phones are under the save light but the XR is much much brighter are clearer.

In which case, it's there a way without turning off auto brightness that I can have the screen just that little bit brighter?

Maybe by resetting the phone to factory settings?

Huh... you need to set both phones at the same brightness level to provide a fair comparison.

Also, make sure night shift is turned OFF when youre comparing the two.

Sorry I don't think I'm making myself clear. I meant both phones are on the same settings (auto brightness, true tone etc) and under the same light. So shouldn't the auto brightness adjust the brightness level to the same value on each phone? Currently the levels way lower on my 11.

Thats not really how autobrightness works. It doesn't adjust to the same level on every phone. It adjusts based on whatever brightness level you've set the phone to manually, depending on the ambient light. So if you manually set your brightness super high, it will try to maintain a high level. If you set it really low, it will only adjust to a lower level.

So you need to manually pull your brightness up to match the other phone. Or pull the brightness down manually on the other phone.

And again, make sure you have NIGHT SHIFT turned off, because it looks like you have it turned on. That messes with the color balance and brightness to help your eyes at night time.

Absolutely.

To elaborate on that, the phone will increase or decrease brightness a few % based on your preference (kind of represented by the slider).

Even with auto brightness on, the slider does matter, the phone does not set a fixed value solely based on lighting conditions… which is a blessing.
If you like super bright screen, crank the slider all the way up. Outside on a sunny day it’ll be even brighter, at night it’ll be dimmer but still probably too bright for most people.
On the opposite side, if you like dim, set the slider low… even in a super sunny environment you screen won’t be super bright… it’ll increase brightness, yes, but not to the max.

It does allow the phone to adjust based on light conditions… but it does so in regard of the user’s preference for bright or dim screens.
Ps : the slider does move on its own to represent what the screen delivers based on current lighting conditions… so it’s a bit more complicated than +/- x% of a set and fixed value… but you get the idea… +/- x% of the current value which is based on the current lighting conditions

Thanks guys.

I've now increased the brightness to about 50% and have kept auto-brightness and True tone on.

So now, am I right in thinking that auto brightness will adjust the screen to my new brightness ettinf?

Night sift kicks in after 10pm and I have the slider for that set in the middle.

All you need to know about auto brightness is that, to begin with as you find yourself in different lighting conditions, you may need to manually slide the slider up when you feel it’s too dim, or slide it down a bit when it seems too bright. Over a short time the phone will learn your favoured brightness level relative to the ambient light around you, and maintain that, to the point where you rarely if ever need to adjust it yourself anymore.
