Let me answer this on his behalf: here are some of my iPhone 11 shots: https://www.flickr.com/photos/33448355@N07/albums Note: there are tons of other photos there (mainly Fuji X-E1 and Sigma DP2M, in addition to scans and pre-iP11 shots) so you'll need to check the camera type of each photo. (In some album names, I specifically mentioned if they are/aren't iPhone-based.)

Before the release of the iPhone 11, the non-largesensor-camera shots are 7+ (starting with 2016); before that, 6s+, Samsung S7 Edge, Note 4 and so on.

Feel free to point out if you find a significant number of my iP11 shots exhibiting the same problems as in this "review". I can guarantee you won't find many.

Note: I generally "dump" my "consumable", "non-serious" phone shots on Flickr, as opposed to more "serious" shots made on the Fuji X-E1 or the Sigma DP2M, where I generally remove the technically sub-par ones before uploading. That is, even the worst iPhone11 shots are there.

How do you like the sigma? Fascinating camera, but i couldn’t bring myself to buy one due to the obvious weirdness.

"Disclaimer: I've always had my iP11 in an Otterbox Defender..."

And that's likely why your 11 doesn't flare. My 12 flares easily, even when the direct Sun is far outside of the frame, reducing contrast and/or putting in a bright arc or other artifacts. Shooting 1-handed and using my other hand as a shield/hood solves the problem. But 1-handed shooting sucks and is difficult.

I wish Apple would re-engineer the protruding lens housing. Or paint the chamfered edge of the cover glass sitting proud above the barrel and shiny barrel face black. Such an easy solution.
Not sure why you are very protective over this "review"? You seem to be challenging anyone with an opposing view and honestly you have no leg to stand on. Folks have posted threads here on MacRumors with hundreds of photos in different lighting conditions to counter this "review". As I stated before, Dan and MacRumors have no credibility in the product review segment as they have made most of their money peddling rumors (taking content from others). You can see the lack of experience and skill in this review alone which is why folks should not look too MacRumors for purchasing decisions.

It could VERY rarely happen, the "hole" is so shallow. And, the newer Otterbox Defenders, incl. that of the iPhone 11, are significantly more "far away" from the cameras than previously (say, on the 7+ or the SE). That is, the propability of this (blocking) happening is VERY-VERY low, even compared to previous iPhone + Otterbox Defender combos.

A 1/4" or 1/2" blocking can make all the difference in the world.

I'm hardly being over protective. What I'm challenging are the assertions that MacRumors, Dan, and MR editors are doing something shady/unethical/dishonest with the goal of misleading readers, without sufficient proof.

I LOVE it. Of course it requires a tripod. But with that (and some work in SPP) it produces absolutely beautiful results. Resolution-wise much better than anything Bayer / X-Trans-based up to appr. 30 Mpixels and, thanks to the fine-tuned-to-match-each-other sensor + lens combo, 99% of any interchangeable sensor + lens combo as, obviously, they can't be so perfectly 'matched'. So I love it.

I also have a Sigma DP1M (the 28mm equiv one in the same 2012 model series) but it's certainly inferior, resolution-wise, so I don't really use it.

Too bad Sigma has recently restarted their full-frame 4:4:4 (that is, fortunately, not the IMHO inferior Quattro) development. I'd purchase a full-frame Merrill in a heartbeat, I love the DP2M so much.

Note: these Merrills have serious issues with for example the red channel's dynamic range. That is, it's essential not to "overdrive" the red channel. And always shoot at ISO 100 & try to ETTR to minimize noise and particularly the (hideous) cian/purple "botching".

Doubt you notice even those differences. The best reason to upgrade is battery going to crap and affecting performance.

I just returned one. It honestly didn’t differ much from 12 max. Could just be I tend to use 3rd party apps mostly. Regardless maybe the ecosystem will be ready for 120hz in a year or so.

The 13 Pro & 13 Pro Max have a Back Wide Camera with an image sensor with 1.9 microns !

That's a BIG deal !

The rumor is that Apple will be transitioning to a 48 Mpx image sensor next year, with (naturally) will be using Pixel Binning.

To do better than the 13 iPhones, it will need to have 1.0 micron pixels, which, which pixel binning, will get it to 2 microns.

I am UN-aware of ANY 48 Mpx image sensor that even comes close to that !

As such, the 13 iPhones could be the best-ever that Apple offers !

If you think things always improve over time, I'll give you a Prime Example of where it didn't.

BMW & others had perfected Hydraulic-assisted power settings, & then decided to transition to Electronic-assisted.

After more than ten years, they haven't come close to Hydraulic !

And not just BMW, ALL but Porsche hasn't come close, & for them ONLY on their autos that have a mid OR rear engine !

I use an 11 Pro Max for both Personal & Dev work.

Seriously considering getting an 13 Pro Max (lowest NAND Flash version), but have NOT yet pulled the trigger.

Still waiting on "proper" A15 CPU core benchmarks !

Well, I went to 120hz and don’t see any difference vs 60hz, so…
so you couldn’t tell the difference that means everyone else can’t, which I don’t believe our eyes can perceive up to 500hz/fps they literally tested this you literally see more than 120hz so I can not possibly believe you didn’t notice a difference or you don’t own a 120hz device

I don’t like this regurgitated line reviewers use to avoid comparisons to the iPhone 12. The iPhone 12 is a cheaper option for older iPhones to upgrade to that is still sold by Apple. If I had an iPhone 6, I’d surely want to know if an iPhone 12 would get me nearly all the camera improvements at a lower price. Macrumors isn’t the only site saying this… pretty much everyone is. Apple probably told them to frame their reviews this way.

Spoiler: since reviewers are avoiding comparing the iPhone 12 to the iPhone 13 because it’s “too similar”, the iPhone 12 is probably worth the cost savings over the iPhone 13 for people still on older iPhones
The iPhone 12 128GB is only $50 cheaper than the iPhone 13 128GB. The battery life alone imo made the 13 to be the better buy.

He didn’t say anything about ‘nobody else’ not being able to tell the difference. Your statement about once having 120hz and not going back to 60hz sounded more inclusive of everybody to me. I’m sure having a smoother experience is better, but different people place varying degrees of emphasis on incremental differences like this. I remember the ‘once you try OLED, you’ll never use LCD again crowd’. That was subjective too. Apple produced excellent LCD’s and the difference is minimal. They’ve also always produced smooth devices from a user perspective. We all have a different perception it seems.

The thing intake from this comparison is that the 13, like the 12, inaccurately lightens the darks. I take a lot of high contrast photos and the 12 pro I have is really problematic because I can’t get the darkness I want. Look
At the night sky in the comparison, see how black it is on the 8? That’s the goal.

as soon as apple release new iphone with modern camera system and no pwm, i will upgrade gladly.. since that, I am stuck on iphone 11

Always thought the 8/X have the nicest tones and contrast out of any iPhone. Much better than the XR/XS when they introduced Smart HDR which washed everything out. iPhone 13 seems to have brought contrast back.
