Clearly the 6 is crap, but it depends what your subject is for saying which is better. I like the 13 for the night sky behind the house shot. It's very subjective.

It’s amazing how for tiny camera technology has come over the years but apple could have made a phone with an actual camera in it if it cared about photography that much. This is all about getting people hooked on something so they can lock you into that so you have a reason to upgrade sooner rather than later. A real camera is able to compensate for many situations and when adjusted properly comes out with great results that hold up. An iPhone camera can actually get worse over the years, slower over the years. With software updates Apple controls how well the newest work and how well the oldest work. And if you had even older iphones you should see quite clearly how much of a hassle they become after years of software updates. Frankly it’s anti customer. Real cameras are expensive but at this point, they do hold up and are a good value that you don’t get hipped on if you pick a good one. They are just clunkier.

I don't usually comment but is this article for real???
As others have said, the lens on the iPhone 11 is clearly dirty/smeared.
But then night shot on the iPhone 13, whilst the lighting and color is better compared to the iPhone 8, when looking at the night sky it appears to have been altered or had an effect added to it, referring to that V shaped light effect.

I'd like to upgrade from iPhone 8 to a device that captures better night shots. My iPhone 8 fails to capture the vibrancy and richness of colored lights. :( Brighly lit signs also become just a bright light so that you can't see what the sign says. It looks like iPhone 13 handles bright lights much better, allowing detail to be seen.
If iPhone 13 does a way better job with night photos then I'll upgrade for sure.

I already ordered iPhone 13 pro max 256. I have used all these phones, except 11 (I used Jet Black 7, then XS max, then 12 and now 13) and I think the comparison is pretty valid.

Generally all times I have been satisfied with camera and beginning from Portrait mode, Apple made great progress in computational photography. To think it is just start, is incredible. The main visible progress is in challenging photos such as low light night, etc. Day photos always have been good in all generations (of course with its limits).

Compared to the 8, the 11,12, and 13 all do much better at night with night mode.

Obvious and disgusting Iphone 13 shill campaign where the reviewers degrade the Iphone 11' lens on purpose to make Iphone 13's quality stand out. At this point I would question everything these guys do and say.

Check Max Tech's (Big Apple shill) iPhone 13 Pro Max vs 12 & 11 Pro Max video to see how Iphone 13 Pro Max is barely edging Iphone 11 & 12 Pro Max, sometimes even performing worse than those two in some situations.

Not worth the upgrade. It's all ********

I don’t like this regurgitated line reviewers use to avoid comparisons to the iPhone 12. The iPhone 12 is a cheaper option for older iPhones to upgrade to that is still sold by Apple. If I had an iPhone 6, I’d surely want to know if an iPhone 12 would get me nearly all the camera improvements at a lower price. Macrumors isn’t the only site saying this… pretty much everyone is. Apple probably told them to frame their reviews this way.

Spoiler: since reviewers are avoiding comparing the iPhone 12 to the iPhone 13 because it’s “too similar”, the iPhone 12 is probably worth the cost savings over the iPhone 13 for people still on older iPhones
Are you inferring that Apple pays MacRumors to tweak their articles? Personally, I doubt that's a fact, but by saying "Apple probably told them to frame their reviews this way." you apparently do. Can you prove it?

I gather the iphone 11 Lens had crap on it? Oil finger print maybe. I have the ii and none of my photos look like that unless I have crap on the lens..

Like if youre going to do a camera test then dont do it half assed.

OMG finally this post has brought up that issue. That haziness you see is a defect, no a dirty lens. I’ve seen it in phones prior to the 11 and even my gfs 12 pro had it. We bought 12 pros on launch day and we noticed right away. Hers had that haziness that mine didn’t. I might’ve seen in 6s or 7 as well. I’ll ask her tomorrow for an example. She asked them to replace the phone and they eventually did.

I wouldn’t call him an apple shill, he’s been ripping the M1 iPad Pro a new one.

Maybe there are just some bad 11s. We have hated our both our 11s, after upgrading from the Xs it went from ok to bad.

We were most happy with our 8 cameras. The 13 has us back to satisfied, but I even had a camera replacement on my 11 because I thought there was something wrong with it. Did not solve the issue. Never did a very good job in terms of general family photography. It could take great outdoor scenery, especially still photos, though.

I am speculating, hence the “probably.” To me, it’s really strange that every review says “hey it’s not fair to compare the 13 to the 12 because very few people upgrade every year” but not a SINGLE review talks about how the people coming from older phones have the relatively-new and cheaper iPhone 12 as an option, which is pretty damn close to the iPhone 13. I suspect a lot of people who don’t care to upgrade frequently would choose the iPhone 12 because of its lower price, and it would benefit those folks to have a comparison to the iPhone 13.

Also, it’s pretty common for companies (not just Apple) to give reviewers suggested talking points when giving out review units. It isn’t some grand conspiracy. It’s normal marketing practice throughout the industry, so I’m just speculating Apple included that as one of their talking points for this year.

Smartphone cameras can’t take good pictures. Just compare human faces at near shooting distance. It’s totally disproportionate.
You need to learn how to shoot faces with a wide lens. Read some articles on proper framing with wide / ulrawide lenses (hint: shoot from afar and put the subject in the center). Or use the tele lens.

EDIT: chaged "Not true" to "You need to learn how to shoot faces with a wide lens"

I don’t care what iPhone model you use to take your pics—they all work well. It’s the folks that don’t post-edit their photos who are total savages.

BTW, on YouTube, someone posted this: "It’s funny how apple ”cut down” camera quality in the older iphones like 11 and XS with software update. I saw that on my 11 (updated on ios 15 vs iphone 11 with the ios 13) and I even compared photos took when I get the phone (in the year when it was released) and photos took now, with ios 15. That just sucks"

Does anyone know of a real comparison and demo of this issue? I'm staying on 14.5 on my iPhone 11 because of the upcoming jailbreak. I may have been right not to update to 15, LOL :)

I have to admit that I expected much more from the upgrade from iPhone XS to 13 Pro.

Yes, the camera has some some features and especially the cinema mode is really nice but when it comes to pictures taken in daylight the only difference I can actually tell is the ability to use the ultra wide lense.

In darkness, there is definitely a big difference but I am not sure if I even like the night mode as it just looks very weird.

do you guys actually see a huge difference?

I am not a pro photographer so I am not claiming there aren’t any improvements, it’s just that I can’t really see them.
Back when I upgraded from iPhone 6S to iPhone X the difference was mich easier to notice for me.
