When I bought my iPhone, I didn’t have it registered with AT&T cause I didn’t want it tied to my account immediately (wasn’t going to be in my name to begin with). I got it activated with an eSim and everything transferred from an old iPhone X sim correctly. I come to find that I can’t get 5G on the 13P. I contacted AT&T and I got told it’s a “known issue” and will be resolved by the end of the day. I call BS. Is anyone else having problems getting 5G?

I went into AT&T yesterday for a different eSim card issue, after that was resolved I asked about my current account/plan and it turns out my plan did not include 5G service. I was able to change plans and now 5G is working.

I got an iPhone 13 Pro Max, but had no issues with 5G. I'm also with AT&T. The only issue I had was with Private Internet Access - of course, I upgraded from an iPhone XS Max, so I was expecting a few issues. I noticed that my iPhone kept going from WiFi to 5G, but once I got PIA sorted, everything was good. You may want to call AT&T again and get a different person, because that "known issue" sounds an awful lot like the tech on the phone has no clue about your issue and just wanted to blame it on the infamous "known issues".

I’m confused. Is the presence or absence of 5G somehow related to Private Internet Access?

I have the same issues. I transferred two lines to two 13 Pro phones yesterday. One is from eSim (iPhone 11P, no 5G) to eSim (iPhone 13P). New phone doesn't have the immediate 5G access. I contacted ATT support to update ICCID and IMEI. About half an hour later, 5G option shows up like a miracle. Maybe there is a delay?

2nd line is from physical sim (iPhone 11, no 5G) to eSim (iPhone 13P). I did the exact same steps to activate my eSim line as the other phone yesterday. However, one day later, 5G option still didn't show up. Now I'm chatting with Att Advanced Technical Team (like the 2nd tier support).

Both lines are 5G access unlimited plan.

Update. Advanced Technical Team changed some settings on their end, and enabled 5G on my 2nd line.

However, I still didn't get 5G data option in this phone. I tried to reboot this phone multiple times, tried to disable/enable this line, and also reset network settings. No dice. Agent said there might be a delay and asked me to wait for 1-2 hours. She said she would call back later.

Agent said there is a known issue for 13 phones. Not sure this bug is on ATT side or apple side.

Update #1: 2 hours later, ATT agent has not called me yet. No 5G option neither.

If I may ask how did you check to see if you're in 5g or not? I connectee via esim with Att as well and I have like one bar signal. Not too happy.

You can check in the Settings app under Cellular > Cellular Data Options. If you have 5G, you’ll see 5G On and 5G Auto, on top of LTE. If 5G isn’t active, you’ll see LTE and 4G instead.

13Pro, I have 5G symbol at top right between signal bars and battery icon. But if I go to cellular data it says LTE.
Does that mean I’m on LTE? Guess another call to ATT ugh…

On my Android phone on Verizon I didn't see a 5G notification until I was in range of 5G service and connected. Until then it only said LTE. I think that unless you deliberately turn off 5G you'll get it automatically when you're in range of a tower.

Or you can simply disconnect your WIFI, then you will see the cellular name located on the very right top corner. LTE/5Ge is for 4G. 5G is for 5G.

Can someone verify that you should see 5G on the right top corner AND on the cellular data options page if you are activated for 5G?
I have an 13P. Talking to ATT now who says 5G will only appear on the top and on the cellular data options page when near a 5G tower. It would seem that the cellular data options should always indicate 5G/LTE/4G although the top right corner may fluctuate depending on what tower you are near.
TIA!

PIA was unable to connect, at least not initially, but I was able to connect to my wireless router. It was a little bit confusing, but when I turned off both WiFi and PIA, I was able to see the 5G connection indicator. As PIA was unable le to connect to the server I chose, it really didn't matter whether I was on WiFi or 5G. I eventually ended up just deleting PIA and re-installing it from the App Store. Now, everything is good to go.

I would just call AT&T and have them send you a new AT&T 5G Nano Sim Card. It’s 100% free + free overnight delivery if you call them over the phone. That’s what I did and it works fine. I haven’t had any issues with 5G.

Thank you I did that. 5G shows now. I still have one bar signal, might have to call at&t to figure out the poor signal.

That's usually means you're in a poor coverage zone. Could be a dead spot. I have full bars most everywhere, but in my house only one or two. All the way to work I have full bars, but once I'm inside the building I'm down to one. WiFi takes over and my connection is strong so connectivity is never a problem.

The first 5G phone was the 12 …

This method may work. Thanks for your suggestion.

So I need to contact Att to request one 5G phsyical sim card and one eSim QR card (used QR card cannot be reused). So I can change my line from eSim to 5G physical sim card, then change it back to eSim again.

If your phone can show 5G sign located on the right top corner sometimes, your phone should be setup correctly to receive 5G signal. The reason why it jumps between 5G/LTE/4G could be the poor 5G coverage... When 5G signal is poor enough, your phone will switch to LTE/4G automatically.

Hi. How is your phone now? Have you got 5G now?
