You can check in the Settings app under Cellular > Cellular Data Options. If you have 5G, you’ll see 5G On and 5G Auto, on top of LTE. If 5G isn’t active, you’ll see LTE and 4G instead.
If this is true, I feel lucky.
My phone shows 5G in these locations, but when I looked at my unlimited plan a couple months ago, it said I would have to change plans in order to get 5G.

soooo, bonus!

I did some researches in this forum and I found some information below:

Back to iOS 14.5, there is the same issue that 5G option is not shown up. More than two people said, they contacted Att and updated myEID number (MEID?), then their phones worked. I only updated IMEI and ICCID recently, not MEID. Maybe that is the reason why it didn't work. I will contact Att to update MEID and I will keep posted.

Update: Finally I got it worked. Because online chat was off now so I called att directly. The agent said they don't use MEID. The agent said EID number is for eSim and IMEI is for physical sim. He said EID number is a very long number, and my provided MEID didn't work. I don't agree with him on this point. Anyway, this agent asked me for the ICCID and IMEI. He asked me to power off my phone. then he updated my sim card and enabled 5G again (third time try in recent two days). Then he told me to power on the phone again. This time, 5G option shown up.

I really don't know what is going on. Maybe support line is better than online chat?

In a word, if you have the same issue, you need to contact att to "reprovisioned" your esim card. I tried to call att and it worked. I tried to use online chat twice and neither worked.

If your phone can show 5G sign located on the right top corner sometimes, your phone should be setup correctly to receive 5G signal. The reason why it jumps between 5G/LTE/4G could be the poor 5G coverage... When 5G signal is poor enough, your phone will switch to LTE/4G automatically.
Thanks. I am getting 5G now. After talking to ATT now settings—>cellular—>cellular data options—>voice data options—> options indicate 5G. Whereas before it said LTE/4G as someone mentioned above and the top right bar said 5Ge. I’m not sure if this helps anyone but wanted to mention it. The top right bar may fluctuate pending your signal area for 5G but the cellular data options should not and should indicate some option for 5G.

I'm on the call with AT&T at this moment and will mention this. Thanks so much for bringing this detail!

Any updates? These days I started using iPhone 13 Pro Max with eSIM on AT&T Prepaid Unlimited Plus Plan with 5G access, upgraded from iPhone 11 Pro Max with a physical nano SIM on LTE/4G that has been using since about 2015.

Somehow the eSIM on my iPhone 13 Pro Max did not show up “5G On”, “5G Auto” and “LTE” options in “Voice & Data” under “Cellular”, but only LTE and 4G, which indicated the 5G network could not be activated. I have contacted AT&T multiple times these days to set up the eSIM, but it seemed that no staff knows how to fix the 5G issue, despite I asked them to re-provision my eSIM. I am sure that I am in an area with 5G coverage.

So can anyone tell me if it is an issue with AT&T copying the old LTE/4G SIM card profile to my new eSIM, which disabled 5G access but still keeping my cellphone number? Any such thing with 5G SIM versus 4G SIM?

Alternatively, I will try to activate a new physical SIM card (SKU of the AT&T SIM card kit I got from Target is 6661A, with the 5G logo produced in 2021), to see if 5G network can be activated on the phone. I also browsed online with someone saying that only the SIM card with SKU 6818B can work with 5G on AT&T, but I just wonder if it is for postpaid plan only.

So any thoughts on how I can solve this? Thanks so much!

I had this same issue. Just got off the phone with support. All good after resetting network settings.

A number of things were done:
- Update IMEI
- Update UCCI
- Full network reset on the phone

After that, it took about 10 minutes and I finally got 5G on the phone. A bit of a pain doing the transition. Now, the only problem is I don't have voicemail running on it. I need to call again and have them reconnect my old voicemail. Such a pain, I swear!

Are you on eSIM with 5G now?

For anyone who is still having issues, I called ATT today and the rep ended up taking my phone off the network and reprovisisoning. It didn’t work immediately so he submitted a ticket but the second we hung up it started seeing 5g.

I have an even weirder problem. When I switched to the iPhone 13 by moving my physical SIM over from my Note 9, our entire AT&T account lost Mobile Hotspot, so I have to call AT&T and get that fixed. ARGH.

AT&T is being stupid and petty about 5G access, and we've been customers a long time and have a grandfathered plan, so we don't get 5G (Mobile Share Value), but I knew that ahead of time, and it was no loss, as I didn't have it before.

I'm att prepaid user. Just converted to eSim. No option to choose 5g in the settings. Only 4G and LTE. When I switch on the data 5Ge is showing. What does that mean? Still 4G/LTE?

How does one convert to eSim? Is that an online process or do you need to call in?

I’m upgrading from an iPhone 7 to the iPhone 13 Pro on AT&T. Supposed to be delivered on Monday. Thanks.

Your 13 Pro will come with a physical SIM. You will have an option (under Settings-->Cellular) to convert to eSIM.
