I do not know what is your experience and will be great to share. In my case, I moved from 13 pro to 14 pro (no real need to do it, but I just gave my 13 Pro to a family member). Sort of an excuse to upgrade. Have to say that it is a very lenient upgrade that bring nothing meaningful. It is a great, refined iPhone as it should be with each iteration. But from the user experience, it is an exact same product as last year.

I saw comparison to Pixel 7 and was surprised how much better Pixel is when it comes to images. That would have been a superb upgrade.
When it comes to the iPhone, I am in for:
1. USB-C (just want to use same cable for all devices)
2. Constant camera improvements (I am into photography)
3. Touch ID (my biggest dream)

That is all:)

But what about your family member? Is (getting) the 13P meaningful to him or her? If so, and if it is meaningful to you that (getting) the 13P is meaningful to your family member, wouldn’t that too determine the meaning the 14P has for you?

The 14 Pro should have gone to the family member, OP clearly says they didn't need an upgrade (which coming from a 13 Pro, it clearly isn't).

pixel just has unmatched software image processing. iphone is still a very good camera but unless you use pro raw and use action mode on video you may not see much difference. for me i like the AOD so for me it's worth it for that.

I have the pixel 7 pro as well and if i wanted a photo of my soni would always try and reach for pixel first. Iphone weakness though is just in HDR and shadows detail. skin tones is better than many others it's just not as good as pixel in that area

Besides 120hz (which some will argue doesn’t matter either), iPhones have primarily been about camera updates for the last 3-4 years. Unless you really need the camera improvements, the core experience is going to barely change from here on out until they try something drastic. The DI isn’t it.

I do not. On average, it is every 3 years. I am with you, annual upgrade is pointless
Ideally whenever there's a new physical redesign then upgrade.

For me I'd rather have faster chip than the latest radio modem

I compared the 14 Pro the 13 Pro this year and the cost difference was £250. I decided the spec difference wasn’t enough for the 14 Pro and could t justify the £1199 so opted for the 13 Pro. A week later my wife decided she hated the size of the 13 Pro Max so we swapped. It’s a decent upgrade for me coming from an iPhone 12. I’ll never buy the current Pro if I can still get the previous years version on a discount. Every 2-3 years is a worthy upgrade period I think.

I don’t understand, did you not turn on the 48MP feature? Anyone should be able to see a massive improvement in quality.
I did, but you still view them on an iPhone screen:)

There’s more to differentiate these two phones than just the camera. You’re paying for that Pixel with more than just money.

Meaning Apple is never using people for their own interest and doesn’t want to make whole world addicted to them?
There’s no perfect company but Apple is miles above Google when it comes to data privacy. It’s not even close. You can do a million side by side comparisons of photos and hardware design but at the end of the day the privacy aspect is the biggest differentiator.

Well everyone that knows pixel series knows that that the 6 and 6 pro were effectively betas hardware wise.

The issues with the pixel 6 series was software related with bugs. That has since been fixed. So not a hardware issue at all.

you won't unless you edit the photos.

I see the difference immediately even when viewing on iPhone. Much more detail. Even the colors are a bit better and have more pop. Maybe it’s because I’m viewing them on 6.7 while OP is using 6.1-inch.

Not saying the photos are worse but I can’t see any real difference without editing personally. Often they seem darker even if it shows more detail

I primarily watch our photos on a 27" 5K display or sometimes when lazy, on an iPad.

For showing to a wider audience, on a 4K television.

Nice:) I use my iPhone photos just as my moment captures:) Very important! But..on 27” I watch my Canon R5 images: www.dylikowski.com
