Looking forward to the iFixit teardown. Many of the early teardown videos are a bear to watch, and often miss key information and lack detail.

Also I am a snob, I will save my YT views for a company that helps us keep our old iOS devices going, and is part of the community, not those after YT views and income ;) .

So 13 Pro Max 4,352mah vs 12 Pro Max 3,687mah.

I’ll be interested to see how that converts into real world use.
Ps - please put comparisons in the article :)
the 13 pro max last around 1 hour longer than the 11 pro max, that had better battery life than the 12 pro max

Almost the exact same as the 11 pro. Why did they lower it for the 12 in the first place? Just to add it back and be able to advertise “better” battery, when it’s in fact just “back to normal” after a year of bad?
Yes. lol.

using a browser search function, here are some added figures:

iPhone SE (2020): 1,821 mAh
iPhone 12 mini: 2,227 mAh
iPhone 13 mini: 2,406 mAh
iPhone XS: 2,658 mAh
iPhone 8 Plus: 2,691 mAh
iPhone X: 2,761 mAh
iPhone 12: 2,815 mAh
iPhone 12 Pro: 2,815 mAh

iPhone XR: 2,942 mAh
iPhone 13 Pro: 3,095 mAh
iPhone 11: 3,110 mAh
iPhone XS Max: 3,174 mAh
iPhone 11 Pro: 3,190mAh
iPhone 13: 3,227 mAh
iPhone 11 Pro Max: 3,500 mAh
iPhone 12 Pro Max: 3,687 mAh
iPhone 13 Pro Max: 4,352 mAh

not sure how true/factual these are but there you are.
EDITED: added in iPhone 12 & 13 models and highlighted the 12/13s with different colors.
EDITED 2: added in the iPhone SE 2020 model.
11 pro max is wrong. It was 3969.
Hence why the decrease to the 12 pro max was annoying to some.

I'm really curious of what the battery life would be if you can turn promotion off. I assume low power mode would disable it.
If you already haven’t read elsewhere you go to accessibility and then I forget which other subcategory but there is something for toggling frame rate

Is it really true that the batteries are serialized and encrypted? Meaning you cannot even get the battery replaced other than going to Apple? This is bad news, especially in countries where there’s no Apple stores… :(

Interesting - looks like the capacity delta between the regular and mini is wider on the 13 than on the 12, right?

Regardless, I upgraded from 12 mini to 13 regular. The battery life hit of the mini version was noticeable, coming from a regular sized phone before. Also seemed to overheat (when it turns the screen brightness down to compensate) pretty often. Frustrating.

kind of amazing how small the batttery on the 12 pro max was to begin with, but wow what a beast on the 13

the ****** x55 5 g chip which took up space, ran hot and inefficien. one reason I skipped the 12. They should have not put in 5g on the 12 and waited for the x60 use in the 13.

if SJ was still CEO thats what he would have done, they just slapped on that crap X55 in to just put 5g as an upgrade reason, which offered nothing superior a that moment and actually created an inferior product just for spec sheet numbers.

The battery size of the 13 Pro Max is the smallest size in its phone size category. Samsung S21 Ultra has a 5000 mAh battery. and when it was tested the same way that the 13 Pro Max was, it only got 8:45. The 13 Pro Mini get close to that now with its small size battery. That is pretty amazing if you think about it and put it into perspective on how good its battery life is for ts size.

Yes, but the Pro's battery will last longer due to the LTPO screen.
The Pro gets substantial battery savings from the ProMotion feature. Yes, it can refresh at 120 Hz when you’re scrolling - but when the screen is idle (which is a large part of the time), it can step down as low as 10 Hz for refresh. I’ve heard it suggested this is a huge savings in battery compared to Android phones that run the screen at 120 Hz all the time.

It’d be worse. ProMotion let’s them run the refresh rate high when needed for scrolling and such, and very very low when the screen is not changing. I think your assumption is wrong.

The A15 and the new display engine in the A15 also contribute to better battery life. Add in the LTPO display in the Pro models.

The 13 Pro Max at 4352 mAh is even slightly higher than the iPhone XR with Apple’s Smart battery case attached (2942 + 1369 = 4311 mAh total)

It even weighs less, at 240 grams for the 13 Pro Max vs. XR with smart battery case on at 294 grams.

You are very onto something here. My guess is they got a wad of cash from Verizon to come to the market early, and give them a ton of screen time at the presentation

Although as a 12 pro owner, I will take its dramatically better reception over the intel crap in the last few phones over a bit of battery anyway, so I’m happy they didn’t wait

You'd have worse battery life if you turned it off, you'd be locked in at a 60hz refresh rate. Promotion can drop to 10hz when not scrolling.

Edit: Just tried low battery mode, and it definitely lowers the refresh rate, not sure if it caps it at 60hz, or what, but it is noticeable.
