I should have been clearer, Apple have never placed focus on RAM as a marketing feature.
True, very true. But just because Apple doesn't prioritize it in its marketing materials (for iPhone, they tell you RAM size for iPad and Mac) doesn't mean there isn't a contingent of prospective purchasers (such as myself) that are intensely interested in the RAM stats.

If you want an iPhone to last, pay attention to the amount of RAM. Just like in computers, it matters and 6 rather than 4GB could provide a year or two more use out of a phone.

I wish more of the tech experts paid attention to this. But usually, they only focus on the here and now – "Hey, it's really fast – that's awesome!".

This is bittersweet. It is great for the 14, however would’ve liked an increase in the pro lineup. 4GB Ram is unusable in my opinion if you are a multitasker. I loved the upgrade to 6GB with my 12Pro
Multitasking…. On a phone?

Next year they'll add 8 GB on the Pro models, possibly with USB-c for yet another incentive to upgrade.

If they gave us 8 GB this year, that would be more of a reason not to upgrade next year.
Definitely possible. Famed display analyst Ross Young has already tweeted that the pill+hole design is coming to the non-Pro iPhones next year as well. So if you like the Dynamic Island UI but don't want to pay pro prices, you're probably better off waiting.

Yes. Yes. But my main issue with the the non-pro phones is that they don't have ProMotion...

This is what put me in a dilemma. I was going to get the 13 mini, but the RAM thing might push me to just get the 14 instead as I know Apple likes to drop iOS support based on RAM amount, and it seems Apple is phasing out models with 3GB and 4GB fairly quickly.
3GB maybe, but not 4GB. There are still many devices that are selling, and will continue to sell, with 4GB RAM. Devices with 4GB RAM will be continued to be supported for awhile. At least another 3 years.

And this is why my 12 will stay my 12 this and next year … this and USBC and wifi6e … and the 14 getting thicker with the same battery life … can I get a thumbs up anybody?

The iPad 9th generation is still 3 GB RAM. But yeah, I'm pretty sure the iPad 10th generation will get 4 GB RAM (and not 6 GB RAM). Also, I have 4 GB RAM in my 2017 iPad Pro, and have no major complaints... except Safari browser refreshing.

The iPad 10th generation is rumored to get the A14 SoC, so you're right about it having 4GB RAM if this is true.

Unusable? That's silly. I heavily multi-task with my 12 Pro everyday for the last two years. Never a stutter or slow-down. Always smooth as glass and fast.

I agree 4 GB is fine for a lot of people, but the 12 Pro has 6 GB RAM.

The iPhones have 6GB of ram.. yet Apple feels that the iMac, Mac Mini and Macbook Air should run just fine with 8GB memory.
We have several 8 GB Macs in the house running macOS Monterey. They run just fine. And yes I know what more memory offers, as I also have 16 GB and 24 GB Macs running Monterey.

In Europe the iPhone now starts at 1000USD. I have a feeling my iPhone 12 will be my last iPhone.

How much RAM goes to running the dynamic island? :)

I’m sure the iPhone Pro 13 models will use less ram than the new iPhone Pro 14 models yet they have the same ram. You have a new always on display and that dynamic island animation thingy that will grab some ram. Also that new camera system will decrease ram too.

Ram is cheap, why not add more….

As a European looking at the new inflated prices, I’m glad that there’s nothing about the 14/14 pro that excites me over my current 12 Pro Max. I plan on keeping it for another 2 years. Hopefully by then, the global situation will have calmed down to a point where our primary concern is climate change.

I'm thinking of burning some fossil fuels next year to fly myself and my family from Canada to Europe for vacation, to take advantage of your record low Euro. 🙃

Seriously though, it's remarkable just how far the Euro has dropped. Sucks. We will be getting a new phone this year, but that is to update my wife's 4 year-old XR. Luckily for us, the price in Canadian dollars has not increased. I too will be keeping my 12 Pro Max though. We generally update every 4 years. Every two years is overkill IMO.

Hopefully this doesn’t gimp the phone, I wonder if Safari and other apps will have problems, so cheap of Apple. Any word on what type of ram?

Between this and the added GPU core, it seems as though Apple merely took the variant of A15 Bionic that was in the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max and put it in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. Still not as good as putting in this year's SoC into this year's iPhone, but clearly they're shifting the marketing of the non-Pro iPhones to people who don't care if $799/$899 gets them the current SoC. They clearly want me to go Pro as much as possible.

Welcome to the club (of countries with highly inflated Apple prices).
Why did iPhone prices rise in EU countries? is it because of import tariffs? Or because of the declining Euro (relative to the dollar)? Or, is apple being petty and raising prices to pay for EU fines/regulations (USB-c, etc)?
