Mine just arrived. I went through and then updated, did a full reset, and am now copying my backup over. I'll report how is went when done.

Same thing happened to me. Transfer completed but my 14 Pro just had a black screen, no haptics or anything. Did a hard restart and it booted up fine.

14PM had same issue. Forced reboot solved the issue. Update available and being installed now.

14 Pro Max, I installed 16.0.1 first, reset the phone, and then transferred. I still had the lock-up issue with the black screen.

damn this sucks man

seems quite a common issue, surprised it's not widely reported

This is looking like one or the poorer launches. This, someone said the got bricked on an iOS update, TMobile activation issues, people can't add cards to Apple Pay

My T-Mo activation was quick and easy. All of Credit Cards added to Apple no problem.

Totally non-scientific, but I never do the direct transfer anymore. I had the worst problems with it when I went from XR to 11p. I vowed never to do it again. I always restore from iCloud back up.

Same here. Bricked right after the transfer was completed. Had to force a reboot. Picked up right where it left off.

Same also happened to me, had to do the reboot trick with the three buttons. I was super sad and sure it was bricked and totally surprised when the reboot actually worked. 🥵

Just setup my wife’s 14 Pro. Transferred from her 12 mini on T-Mobile and came back to a black screen. I took Johnny Lawrence’s advise and did some “internetting” and found this thread. After a few Coor’s Banquets, it’s all good now but how did Apple not know about this!

The same exact thing happened on my iPhone 14 Pro Max after the transfer. I did the volume up, volume down, and power to reset it. Tech support must be getting inundated with calls on this. Surprised Apple didn't fix this issue before launch.

Just had the same problem after direct transfer.
I did the hard reset (note that it is quick volume up, quick volume down, hold power button until apple logo appears).
Apple logo and "iPhone Unavailable. Try again in 5 minutes" came up.

I did the direct data transfer and my old iPhone says the transfer completed (took about an hour). However I now can't get the screen on the iPhone 14 Pro to power on.

Strangely, I'm feeling haptic touches, so I suspect the phone is on. But the screen is pitch black.

Anyone else getting this or found a solution?

Thanks!
Same thing happened to me. No combination of the usual button holding/presses would get it to come back. It only turned on once I put it on the charger (despite having something like 80% battery left). Haven't had any issues since then.

This sucks for less experienced users. I immediately thought of doing a hard reset but I can see people being completely bewildered.

I always do manual set up and then restore from backup on my MBP. I don’t have 16.0.1 though. I’m just on 16. Should I leave it alone or try to update?

There's no harm in checking to see if the 16.0.1 update is available!

No issues on my transfer from my 13 Pro. However, before doing the transfer from my iPhone 13 Pro, I put the new 14 Pro into recovery mode and did a restore and update to get the 16.0.1 update. Once that was complete, I did the quick setup, transferred the eSIM, did phone to phone transfer of data and no issues whatsoever

No problems transferring from my 13 Pro Max to my 14 Pro Max. Did the 16.01 update immediately and then restored from iTunes back up and re-paired my watch

Transfer from my XS to the 14 Pro was flawless. I did, before the transfer, restored the 14 Pro with Finder and updated to 16.0.1
