I had no problems during the setup but the screen randomly went black for a period of time despite attempts to wake it. Suspect it has something got to do with the AOD.

Overly dramatic? I think shelling out $1100 for a new phone and having it brick from The first moment is worthy of a pout

First of all, you seem to have missed the context. We are talking about EVERY iPhone launch when there are always people who bitch and moan about everything.

Furthermore, it didn't brick it. Turn phone off back on, and it's fine. And for the record, this didn't happen to most people. But thanks for playing.

It wasn't as simple as turning it off and back on again. I had to do a hard reset, which many people aren't going to know about.

For the record check out number of people with various issues here and on other sites. We bought 2 iPhone 14s; one would not turn on after phone data transfer, contacting Support, and 1) a series of hard resets, 2) connecting to MBP, and 3) connecting directly to plug. It was returned. The other iPhone continues to power on and off when charging. Turning off app updates resolved this but if this is your idea of a satisfactory launch after looking at the number of issues all I can say is I hope your day job is not QC.
