Supposedly found to be over 40% faster with an extra 2hrs of battery. Question is what’s all that cpu going to be used for? Photo AI?

All supposed benchmarks are pure speculation. There haven't been any leaks. Also, one can guess which cores will be used due to ARM's roadmap, but nothing is certain until the phone is released.

Apple follows a Tick-Tock model. A13 and A15 were relatively minor upgrades. A12 and A14 focused on the big cores.

So it wouldn't be a surprise to see a relatively large increase in performance. Doubtful on power consumption however. Apple already used N5P for A15.

Wow!

Maybe I'll get my email downloaded faster, my text messages responded to quicker and be able to talk much faster on phone calls!

Imagine how that much increased speed will enable me to do basic phone tasks 40% faster!

I think we've all seen that WikiChip chart showing the various nodes. N4 offers no advantage compared to N5P except in very minor density improvement. TSMC says N3 won't ship for revenue until early 2023.

I dont really know why iPhones need that much power. Even my 12 Pro Max is fast as heck. Unless Apple implements Desktop Mode, Dual Apps and so on...

Maybe instead of new SoC they should work on thermals. Recent iPhones throttle like crazy because of the sandwich pcb design.

I highly doubt Apple will ever include a "Desktop Mode" for a phone. That's why we have tiered devices. You need such experience? There is an iPad.
not everyone can afford an iPhone + iPad...and not everyone wants 2 devices... but i dont really need desktop mode, was just saying why would an iPhone need so much power when it doesnt have desktop mode.

Or you could do things like have video with increased bit depth, hardware decoding/encoding, better photo AI. But you’re a simple minded person, I get it.

Well, yes. I am a simple person. I prefer to use my phone as a phone and leave all the computer stuff to…

…actual computers.

You nailed it!
