This is my worst nightmare. Can anyone confirm this is fixed?

Also is this only in regards to the 14 not smh other models upgraded to iOS 16? Thanks

Now this sounds like the Apple software experience we have grown to expect around iPhone and new iOS launch. I get that software is complicated but year after year of this bs. Heads should roll.

Work from home quality
More like a whole new activation process because of esim only. There are always issues when a new process comes out, they will get worked out, and no one will look back... I'm curious to see if there are issues only with people that don't pre-move the esim with their older phone.

People that think Apple is declining in software doesn’t understand software development. The reason it seems like there are more bugs is because the software only gets more complex as new features keep needing to be added to remain competitive and their active user base is over a BILLION users. That means a lot of places for scenario issues, etc.

Yeah, these issues suck, but not everything can be caught in testing when there are different volumes and variables when going to production.

I lead a large software development team so understand their pain.

I will note that sometimes if you are on prepaid and you do not have any credit it used to be the case that iMessage would not activate as there used to be and may very well be a small carrier charge around 30 cents or so. However this could have changed in the last few years.

This should serve as a reminder to everyone that there is no need to be the very first guinea pigs when upgrading to a new phone.

Remember this come next year when iPhone 15 comes out…

And iPhone 16…

And iPhone 17…

And iPhone 18…

And iPhone 19…

And iPhone XX…
That's what I just told myself. I am glad now my phone isn't coming until October. This is the most problem ridden release I can remember and I've been buying iPhones since 2008!

Green Bubbles on Apple Messages Accounts: For what its worth while using iOS 16 beta I would get green bubbles on Apple users Messages. My work around was go to Contacts and remove the 1 (country code) from the phone number. Blue bubble would again show up correctly.

THanks!

Would it make sense to go through the setup as a new device, upgrade to iOS 16.0.1, reset, then setup with migrating your data?

I began having iMessage issues with iOS 16. What I'm now experiencing in iMessage Settings, is that I can not choose my phone number for "Start New Conversation From". It will only let me choose email addresses listed and not my phone number. Aargh! (iPhone 13 Mini)

This is what I wonder. Will going to 0.1 on 13PM mess with transferring to a new 14PM? I remember when my old phone had .1 it messed things up, but would 0.1 be ok?

I found a glitch on the initial Lock Screen in iOS 16. All widgets and hey Siri are broken until you unlock your iPhone. All widgets are broken and have placeholder empty data cells. Setup widgets and force shut down your iPhone and then power on again. Do not unlock your iPhone. Your widgets and hey siri will both not work.

Downloaded the latest update?

Walked into an Apple Store today and an Apple employee had the same bug on his iPhone…

I’m really not one to nitpick or sweat the small stuff, but it is pretty off-putting for a brand new top of the line phone to be riddled with so manly glitches right out of the box.

Apple is renown for their unboxing experience which really sets the tone from that moment going forward. While the actual physical iPhone 14 Pro unboxing experience may be as good as ever, the fact that you have to immediately update the software now becomes inextricably part of the experience since it’s the first thing you’re doing after turning the phone on. As minor of an inconvenience it may be to update software, it leaves a poor impression on the user and Apple knows or should know that.

I can’t imagine how technically demanding it is to develop the hardware and software that went into this phone. But that doesn’t change the fact that users will feel like the development was rushed, shortcuts were taken, quality control was absent, and that perhaps Apple willingly sold people an unfinished product.

I used Apple Quick Start to do a direct clone of the 13 Pro to the 14 pro, and other than having to re-name the phone, there were absolutely zero issues. I had a perfectly smooth transfer, except losing legacy bluetooth devices in the stack. But those never carry over from one phone to another- one always has to re-pair those.

Conversion to e-sim took seconds (ATT) and the entire transfer took about 35 minutes over bluetooth.

Watch automatically transferred, Apple Pay cards all transferred, even my SUICA card for Japan Railways transferred with zero problems.

I will say that iOS 16 is a LOT more proactive at stopping charging if device temps reach a certain level- way more aggressive than any other OS before.

Also had my new Apple case and tempered glass screen protector pack show up at the exact same time as the phone, which worked out very well.

Used iCloud to transfer settings and the transition was very smooth. Went from iPhone 13 Pro with sim card to iPhone 14 Pro esim. I did not apply the 16.0.1 patch.

There were several things missing in wallet after the migration such as my covid vaccination card and several insurance cards. One Bank of America Visa Credit Card failed twice in the migration, but after the migration was completed I was able to re-add it manually.

Also, Apple should prompt you to rename your new phone. I initially forgot to rename the iPhone 14 Pro after the migration was complete until I went to pair my Apple Watch and was prompted to pair it with the "iPhone 13 Pro" when selecting pair existing watch on the iPhone 14 Pro.
