While setting the g/f’s 14 pro, the 1st iMessage took about 5 seconds to go blue. First thing I did though was update it to 16.0.1

Side note: T-Mobile sim —> eSim took zero hassle and about 30 seconds. I was shocked (thankfully) it was not a hassle. I did not pre-setup the eSim transfer either. I also set up phone as new (manual installation of everything)

I’m stuck in this bug.
Did 4 factory resets last night (friday), nothing.
Spent 2+ hours with Apple Support today, waiting to hear back from engineering of whats going on.
Cut short, my 14 Pro currently has no iMessage nor FaceTime and as an avid Apple user I’m out of ideas.
Bring on my 3pm call back.

I've the same problem on a 1TB 14 Pro. Can you send an update if you've got to get it working? Would be much appreciated!

Just went to the shop of the provider. I swapped my esim for a physical SIM card and iMessage and Facetime are directly started working for the first time on my 14 Pro. Wish I knew this before, it would have saved me a couple of hours of frustration trying to fix the issue. Happy I can leave this behind and move on with my life 🤪

Would be nice to hear everyone’s fix, if there is any. The iPhone 14 Pro doesn’t have a SIM card slot, so I’m not sure where you put the physical SIM card.

Seems you haven’t been following the news on the Ford Bronco…
Agreed. Had to take a BMW back 3 days later because a light came on... so it does happen. Not that I'm defending apple. This is abhorrent, especially given the amount of people who have green message bubble phobia.

I used Apple Quick Start to do a direct clone of the 13 Pro to the 14 pro, and other than having to re-name the phone, there were absolutely zero issues.
That's what i did too. No problems other than the phone getting hot while it was doing the transfer.

This has nothing to do with home office.

Apples declined quality started long before Covid & Co. It’s totally normal that the quality starts sucking when you have a CEO that cares more for short term profits than for good products and the long term health of the company.
Started with “you’re holding it wrong.”

However to be fair, when I activated the pro max, it just worked.

I’m from the Netherlands and yes in the Netherlands the iPhone pro 14 has a SIM card slot. 😉 My experience makes me think the problem is caused by the esim. I didn’t have any similar issues when I used an esim in my iPhone Xs. Maybe it helps to exchange the esim for a new esim?

I set up my iPhone 14 Pro on Friday. I used the Apple quick start method to transfer over my data from my iPhone 13 Pro. I then upgraded to 16.0.1.

Now, when I send a text message to my wife, who also has an iPhone 14 Pro, it's green (SMS) rather than blue.

Strangely, some of my messages to other iPhone users are blue, and some are green—it's not consistent.

I had the same problem. Iphone 14 pro max with iOs 16.0.1. Facetime incoming calls did not work at all. Talked to Apple support and the guy suggested that I delete all my VPN accounts. Did it and Facetime now works as before. Will try later to setup VPN accounts from scratch.

Apple says some new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro owners may experience iMessage and FaceTime issues after setting up their phone out of the box. This article outlines some potential problems and how to resolve them.

iphone-14-pro-box.jpg

According to Apple, some people with new iPhone 14 models may be facing iMessage and FaceTime activation issues after setting up their phone. Some of the problems encountered may include:
  • Inability to receive iMessages or FaceTime calls.
  • Seeing a green message bubble instead of a blue bubble when sending a message to another Apple device.
  • Conversations in Messages showing up in two separate threads instead of one.
  • Recipients seeing your messages coming from the wrong account, for example from your email address if you had selected your phone number.
Update Your iPhone 14 Software

Apple says the simplest way to resolve these issues is to update your iPhone 14 to iOS 16.0.1. The update is now available for all iPhone 14 models. To update your device, follow these steps. If you get a notification on your device that says an update is available, tap Install Now. You can also follow these steps:
  1. Plug your device into a power outlet using a Lightning cable and power plug, and make sure you're connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Launch the Settings app.
  3. Tap General, then tap Software Update.
    Tap Download and Install.
  4. Enter your passcode if prompted to do so.

If You're Still Having Issues After Updating

If after updating to iOS 16.0.1 you are still experiencing problems, here are a few other steps you can try that may resolve things.
  1. In the Settings app, tap Cellular/Mobile Data. Make sure that your phone line is turned on. If you use multiple SIMs, make sure that the phone number you want to use is selected and turned on.
  2. Go to Settings -> Messages, then tap Send & Receive.
  3. Tap the phone number that you want to use with Messages.
  4. Go Back to the main Settings menu, then tap FaceTime.
  5. Tap the phone number that you want to use with FaceTime.
If none of the above works, you may need to restore your device to iOS 16.0.1 by connecting to a Mac or PC to fix the bug and fully activate your new iPhone.

Just had the same issue with brand new 14 after switching from Android. Total nightmare. Fix below, story below that for anyone interested.

Circumstances:

-Switched from Android to iPhone
-Transferred contacts and messages using “move to iOS” app on Android
-iMessage/SMS very corrupt and dysfunctional. Everything else working fine

Fix:

-Erase all imported conversations and contacts
-Manually enter all contacts and start new conversations

This cleared it up for me. Seems like the contacts and messages imported were corrupt. Hope this helps.

Story:

Have used Android for 12 years and decided to switch to iOS to see what the hype was about. Bought a brand new 14 pro max from the Apple Store. Switched my contacts and messages over using Apples “move to ios” app on my functional Android. Finish setting up phone and everything works except iMessage/SMS. Some contacts work, some won’t load, some work then stop working, some will send SMS but not iMessage, just a huge mess. Drive to the Apple Store at 6 pm and am told they have no time for me and they’ll make an appointment for tomorrow. Okay. Drive back to store at 11am next day and am told that a shopping appointment was made and I’d have to wait 2 hours to talk with “genius”. Okay. Genius spends an hour resetting my phone and confirming my settings are correct but the problem continues. Genius goes in the back of store for 15 minutes to talk to an Admin and comes out to tell me they won’t replace the phone because it isn’t a hardware issue and gives me a number to call for support. Okay. Spend an hour on the phone with apple support to go through the same steps I did at the store then tells me I may have to wait for an iOS update to fix the $1200 brand new phone I just purchased. Finally tells me they can’t help me and I should go to the store. Okay. After messing around with it on my own I find that the issue was likely the texts and contacts imported being corrupted and erasing and reentering those seemed to fix the issue. Not impressed with Apple at all. For a company that’s known for selling an experience what experience did they sell me? What other industry would that kind of behavior be acceptable? Even now that the phone is functional I’m not that impressed. This will likely be the last iPhone I ever own.
