It will most likely be UPS. Possibly FedEx but definitely NOT USPS unless something has changed very recently.
I think the problem is that ordering goes live before people have had their coffee....
I guess 5:00AM is a compromise so both West and East coast have a good chance to place orders. Midnight West Coast means 3AM East Coast. I guess 4AM West Coast would be even better for East Coast. Basically, there will never be a perfect UTC time for everyone.
For years it was Midnight PT/3am ET. As an east coaster, I’m perfectly fine with west coasters having to wake up early for a change. 😁😝😂
So weird. I am in the U.S. and had set black pro max 256 for pre-order. Went in as soon as pre-orders opened. I to click the final submit order under Apple Pay several times to get it to take. Estimated ship Sept 27 - 29. I had three other pro, but not max phones to order. Went in secondarily to order, and those all arrive on launch day. I guess the pro max is either more popular or lower inventories?
I tried to add a delivery hold to my UPS account since I won’t be home on the 16th and my neighbors aren’t always reliable. Unfortunately it says that they can’t hold the package and deliver it later since the package has special restrictions.
It seems like it might let me redirect it to a UPS point though (like a UPS store).
Does anyone have experience with this? I was hoping to pick it up (or have it delivered) on the 20th but I’m not sure how long the UPS store would hold it.

Yes, and in my case even though my email order confirmations said Sep 23 by postal service. I didn't look carefully or screen-shot the delivery date before checkout from the Apple Store, so I don't know if I was originally quoted a launch date delivery or not. But UPS thinks I'm getting the phones on Sep 16th, woot! (I figured the slowness/glitchiness of choosing the VZW trade-in discounts had pushed my order outside the launch-day supply.)
Anyone have scans earlier than this? I haven’t seen as much chatter on these details as previous years so far!

I’m in the Louisville, KY area where the UPS Worldport hub is located and happen to be friends with a few UPS pilots. The launch day iPhones started arriving this morning and are being stored in a high security warehouse for the next few days. UPS and Apple have an agreement where they won’t update tracking to show the next steps for a couple days, but 90% of launch day phones are already on the ground here in Louisville.
Same. Ordered at about 5:03AM. My UPS page shows the origin scan as having happened at 3:49PM China time. From that point forward our times and scans match. Probably in the same shipping container.
