If I was going to upgrade from my iPhone XS, I would grab an iPhone 13 as you can get it 35% off right now here in Australia. But I just bought an iPad Air, I'll just wait for the USB-C iPhone in 2023 or 2024.

No iPhone 14 Mini. Probably no iPhone 15 Mini too. This is going to suck. Might need to hang onto my iPhone 13 Mini for many years.

Yes, I know statistically, very few people bought the Mini. But I'd still like an upgrade path. I would consider the smaller Pro but Apple has made it extremely heavy.
After trying an iPhone mini for months, I can see the ergonomics of the phone, but I can also understand why many people didn’t choose it.

Don’t get me wrong, I ended up returning it for different reasons (my eyes ended up getting red and sore with the OLED screen), but I see now it is a bit too small for today’s standards. It’s even narrower than an iPhone 6/7/8!

With the months, I’ve reached the conclusion that a size between the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X is the ideal for me. Luckily, the next iPhone SE -if Ross Young is right- will have a 5.7” display, and will offer enough screen real state while still being easy to hold in one hand.

On the other hand, maybe the mini is a niche product, but it’s a pity Apple is discontinuing it.

Honestly, I think the best way to prepare for the iPhone 14 is to hold onto your current iPhone until next year’s iPhone 15, with a much more powerful chip built in 3nm, USB-C, periscope lens and maybe a refreshed design.

The other option if you need to replace your iPhone is to get a cheaper 13 or a refurb 13 pro when they are available on Apple in a few months.

Am tempted to upgrade from the regular 13 to the 6.1 Pro. I wonder if Apple not providing any remotely significant updates to the standard model is to upsell people to the Pro which is a significant upgrade

Been giving blood for money a few months now, crushing cans and selling them. Almost have enough for a polishing cloth, just a little longer and I can get the iPhone 14.

I have always bought the new iPhone model for cash. That way there is no "interest" being paid which can be substantial at the current credit card rates at over 20% on some cards. My 13 Max Pro goes to my wife and her 12 goes to one of her daughters. We pass them down the line so the family buys one new iPhone and the clan gets an upgrade hand me down.

Leave it to Apple to redesign it for the worse...when all we wanted was USB-C with the existing design.

Especially if they are deluded enough to think a price increase is close to a good idea for barely any substantial changes when people can barely pays for NEEDS. Now maybe next year if things rebound and they add all those things, it could warrant a price increase

How heavy can you possibly think a phone, any phone, is?

100% agree. Next month is going to be a very expensive month.
Right?!? So excited!

Been doing that for the last 14 years and never missed a year without an upgrade. No matter how expensive it's going to get. It's pretty much stuck in the DNA until Apple stops making the iPhones.

I will go wireless with the charging, so USB-C doesn't matter to me. But I will be upgrading my dying iPhone 6 plus, so I hope they do a good job with the updates.

I try to put things into perspective. A few months ago I upgraded my iPhone XR to a new iPhone 13 Pro Max. I tend to keep phone for 4 to 5 years. Trading up every year is out of my budget and it makes no sense to me personally, YMMV of course. The new iPhone 13 Pro Max cost the equivalent of 5 to 6 months of groceries for me (I live alone). When I look at things in that perspective it is much easier to wait a few to several years between upgrades to new iToys, especially if the older one I have works just fine. I won't be tempted by a new iPhone until the iPhone 16 or 17 is released, assuming my iPhone 13 Pro Max is still working fine. As a matter of fact, there are days when I wonder why I even updated the XR to a 13 Pro Max. The XR still does pretty much what the 13 does, and most of the improvements have been spit and polish and not of much value to my usage case. I have REAL cameras so I don't need a crappy smartphone camera that is a PITA to use and takes poor photos in low light. The OLED screen is the only great improvement IMO. But, at my age, I long sense out grew the urge to be tempted by anything shiny and new...

Most users want usb-c for quicker data transfer, not charging.

And congrats on the future update! I’m sure you’ll be more than happy. Will take a lil adjustment if you don’t go with an SE and go straight to Face ID with no button.

I can't remember the last time I transferred data with a cable.

I want USB-C for charging.

Same.

I guess I’ve never worried about usb-c an everything charges fine for me. I like how solid the lighting has been though.

But I hope everyone gets it sooner than later. I’ll be good either way. 😁

I myself am just holding out for the iPhone 15 with its possible new design and USB Type C port with Thunderbolt 3/USB 3.2 Gen 2 10 gigabit/second data connectivity.

My iPhone 8 battery is pretty much dead, so my next phone will most likely be the iPhone 14/pro (my wife needs one as well!). Theres enough upgrades to make it worth it, and the port is a fairly minor inconvenience.

Is anyone even excited about this phone though? The 13 mini is such a good phone I don't think I want to upgrade for a few improvements... plus the hole cut outs are going to be more of a nuisance than the notch if we're being honest. I'm really hoping Apple goes full screen ahead on the iPhone 15 and gets rid of these annoying camera bumps on the opposite side of the phone... There were great concept ideas a few months back with the sleakness of the iPhone 4/5, a full screen and no camera bumps. Why can't we get that?!
