I wouldn't be surprised that the "regular" iPhone 14 arrives in September, but the iPhone 14 Pro arrives in October.
It will be the other way around. iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max models out first. Regular iPhone 14/Max model comes out in October. Apple will rack up more profits with the Pro models :)

When was the last year you can remember, anyone could just walk into an Apple Store on launch day and get any model of new iPhone they wanted?
That's a demand issue. This is a supply issue.

It's like having a headache from a hangover versus a headache from brain cancer. Different causes with similar symptoms.

Still on my iPhone 8, so I’ll just relax as I’m about 6 years behind schedule!

Uhhh... no. They should not be messing with the iPhone 14 Pro Max models. That won't be cost effective for Apple. Remember iPhone 14 Max will be a cheaper model for the consumers.
Cheaper in relative terms. This is still a new SKU that Apple could easily charge 899 for. That’s more than $900 after taxes which puts it in the premium smartphone category. Even the iPhone 13 Mini is considered expensive. That’s partly why it’s not selling well. Most look at it and say, well if I am gonna spend that much might as well just get the Pro already.

Every single year called and wants its story back.
It’s not like it’s gonna have some enormous impact on society. The market is so saturated right now, even if you have to wait a few months to get its not gonna be a problem for most users. Is a iPhone user looking to upgrade gonna change their mind by February 2023 and buy a Samsung instead? No, even if the iPhone 14 Max was delayed until March it would work out in Apples favor.

Every year we hear the same...delays.

And for the people who say don't release and focus on OS, what specifically are you looking for or expecting? I mean the OS is much better than its competitors.

Different flavor, same rumor, every year.

Every year MacRumors posts this same rumor.

Every single year called and wants its story back.

Launch cycle playbook:

  1. early summer scarcity rumor... to become larger and louder as launch approaches.
  2. Fans whipped into a buying frenzy setting their alarms for the wee hours to desperately try to get one, lest they risk not for perhaps 10 or 12 years the way the hype is going,
  3. some "winners" and many "losers" in the "first" lottery...
  4. only to be followed by just about everyone getting the one they ordered by the end of the quarter so Apple can report record volume and record profits.
As you 3 share and many others know: same scarcity spin... but then magical/wondrous fulfillment by end of quarter.

The one thing I'll add for THIS time (which is not unique but not every year): there is another story elsewhere that claims Apple's volume order for 2023 is the SAME as 2022. If true, how does Apple iPhone drive "record revenue" and "record profits" on the same volume? The one most likely answer links right into a good scarcity rumor stream too.

I doubt the hardware team has any influence over the software team.
It's not like skipping new hardware would make the software any better. They are created by different teams. Hardware designers are not qualified to write software. Coders are worthless when it comes to designing new hardware.
So move the hardware designers and testers over to work on iOS? What could go wrong?
You guys are overlooking the fact that the software team has to spend a non-trivial amount of time every year adding code in iOS to support a new model. New processor, camera, display - all touch on many areas of the OS.

I mean, this sucks, but it's about time that supply chain issues affect Apple? They were able to keep things steady for a lot longer than other companies but eventually they have to contend with the same problems.

Hopefully they get all worked out. I'm still waiting on a Macbook Pro from work, should have gotten it last month but I might not see it for another few weeks.

I doubt the hardware team has any influence over the software team.

True, but the software team has to develop the software to work on the new hardware. I would love to see the software team freed up for one year to fix/develop iOS. But that would ever, never happen. Too much money to be made with yearly iPhone releases.

It’s wisest to buy a new iPhone at least 6 months after they launch anyway- so no biggie
It is a biggie in that the 'better deals (aka rebates)' are within the first few months of a new iPhone's launch date.
After that, those 'deals' are fewer and 'rebate' amounts are lower, unless a cellular company advertises something 'special' to entice people to buy the new iPhones from them.

Dear Nikki Asia, history says you are wrong most of time. Only thing I care is pill-hole design across all iPhone 14 models.

What an excellent opportunity this would be to give it a miss this year rolling out new hardware and new OS's and instead concentrate on getting the current OS's working properly.
Not possible unless Apple introduce an iPhone maintenance subscription for all current devices.

Its really hard to justify these Max phones anyways. I honestly have been unimpressed with my iPhone 12 Max. It replaced my iPhone X after I had water damage from rain on a camping trip, I've never gotten as good of photos out of the super duper high end phone that I specifically bought for the higher end camera system (I otherwise would have bought a standard iPhone 12).

It doesn't matter to me how good the sensor is if ever image has lens flare on it, no matter how many times i try cleaning the lens and don't see damage to it.

I will never buy a Max phone again as it just wasn't worth the money. I consider myself burned on that purchase. I've also experienced constant overheating (and forced dimming) of my 12 Max while on my car charger while doing navigation - something I never had with my iPhone X.

And as others say, a focus on iOS over meaningless spec bumps would be nice..... I've been having issues on a daily basis where Messages will stop sending messages with photos, showing undeliverable.... and the only way to fix it is to reboot. If it were hardware, I'd think my data and regular text messages would be broken. So thats down to either carrier or software.... I have trouble thinking the carrier fixes itself with a reboot of my phone... so come on Apple, your quality level has dropped like crazy.

Stop wasting time and resources on a car and put out a better product.

Diversify your manufacturing locations and suppliers Apple, to protect supply chain issues. Supply Chain Economics 101.
Diversifying lowers your bargaining power on discounts. The more apple feeds to one supplier, the more leverage they have on negotiations
