I don't have a 14 Pro, however I imagine the battery drain would be negligible if you used a completely black background with minimal widgets. That way, you could see the time/notifications and still have the benefit of the AOD without the battery drain.

Having a wallpaper on your lockscreen with an AOD is a complete waste of power. It should show the minimum amount of information required.

I switched it off due to battery. As of right now it's the biggest battery consumption on my phone... They need to allow us for a full-on black mode.

My AOD goes off automatically.
I don’t have sleep mode or battery saver on, don’t have Apple Watch. But still goes off automatically.
I want it on 24/7 how can I do it?
I’m the same. I want the AOD to actually be an AOD! I put my phone in a charging stand at night by my bed and the supposedly AOD would be a perfect nightstand clock…but no, it turns off. So it’s really a SOD (Sometimes On Display). Has anybody found a way to actually make it always on?

So it’s actually a sometimes on display that you can make always off but you can’t actually make always on…too funny.

Yeah. I can see the benefit of it turning off under the conditions they describe but a don't-turn-off option would be nice for the nightstand use.

Yeah, I think it makes perfect sense for it to turn off the way they have it. But to not have an actual always on mode for something literally called an Always On Display makes zero sense to me…🤣

I honestly have a black background so it's literally black on white text. So yes I have it on, but black background. I've had black wallpapers for years (boring I know).

IOS 16.2 allows further customization of AOD and the notification on AOD including killing the wallpaper AOD.

Only useful for some people. It does effect battery life If you have a use for AOD use it

Seeing as this is one of the new main features for the 14 pro line is this should you are currently using?

One of the main reasons for me to upgrade was the AOD!

I have to admit, I have grown to like Apple’s implementation as well.. so much so that I wouldn’t change any of the settings with the rumoured options in 16.2.

14p. No Aw.
I turned it off as soon as I set up the device.
The biometrics reader is/has been very good, I reckon since the phone awakens before I have the screen at a viewable angle.
It unlocks as soon as the screen is oriented to view.
I don't need the aod, evidently.

iPhone 14 Pro Max here, Always-On-Display as well as raise-to-wake disabled since day 1.

Tap to wake is just what I want.
For a quick glance at notifications I do have my AppleWatch Series 6.

Off, tried it for a day, did’t enjoy the experience, I’ll use it when the new update released, so I can disable the wallpaper off.

Same! Of course it uses more battery to have AOD enabled but it is not nearly enough for me to notice or care. I did turn it off one day when I knew I would be using the phone heavily without a chance to charge.

I just like the time for aesthetic but having an ultra and minimizing notifications all I really need are Apple Watch notifications. I really wish there was a feature to silence all iPhone notifications and direct them to Apple Watch.

I had it on for the first couple of days I had the phone, but it seemed like during the early days of iOS 16 that it was a big drain on battery and since I'm a heavy user I would appreciate even an extra 4 or 5% a day over the little benefit of an AOD.

Even if there was no battery drain I don't think I'd use it, I didn't on my Samsung S6 back in the day and in my opinion, the android one is far superior. Apple's is just confusing to me, always looks like the phone is on.
