I upgraded to the 16.2 beta from 16.1. Now my battery life is way better.

There's definitely something wrong with 16.1.

Drained from 100% to 33% after 4 hours of phone in the pocket. Cool.

iPhone 14 pro
I’m having the exact same problem with my iPhone 14 Pro, as Home & Lock Screen is using a significant portion of my battery after upgrading to iOS 16.1. It’s especially apparent at night, when my phone is unplugged, screen off, not doing anything. I don’t even have the always-on display option checked or Lock Screen widgets.

When I woke up Wednesday morning, my phone was very hot and had lost 40 percent of its battery. It said that the Home Screen and Lock Screen had used 99% of the battery during that time. How? I don’t have Live Activities enabled; I’m not even using the phone.

Never had a problem until iOS 16.1. My habits have not changed.

Last night; went over to a friend’s house to play poker. I got there at exactly 6 o’clock. Strong cell signal and my phone was on their home Wi-Fi. I used it some but it was usually sitting on a table. Got a few texts from my wife that I looked at on my Apple Watch. Look at the chart below. My battery life cratered from around 60 percent at 6pm down to 13 percent just after 1am by the time I unlocked the phone and went WTF? I wasn’t even using it. By the the time I got in the car to come home just before 2am, I was down to 8 percent.

THIS IS NOT NORMAL 🤬

Seems like native Mail. At least on mine

Same with mine. Native Mail is showing hours of background activity even with background refresh turned off. Started after upgrading from iOS 16.0.3 to 16.1. Never had this issue before. Take it off the charger at 100%, awaken 8hrs later, it’s at 48%.

It’s definitely iOS 16.1 causing the drain (for me). I upgraded to the iOS 16.2 public beta and everything is back to normal.

16.1 has been excellent on my 14PM. I don’t think I’ve ever ended the day with less than 60-70% battery even when using it extensively during the day. I’ve never had a battery issue on any phone in years including this one but this software seems especially good. Very pleased!

I’ve noticed this on my regular 14 and at the moment I think it’s caused by the Music app background activity.

I wonder are others experiencing it using the Music app?

Spoke a bit too soon. It still "feels" like 16.2 beta isn't as good as 16.0 in terms of battery life.

Just curious if anyone else has noticed horrendous battery life on the iPhone 14 Pro after updating to 16.1

All I hear in local forums is how bad the battery life is and if the new version will fix it. And that’s from day one, not only with 16.1.

The numbers that I see usually can’t even compare with my 3 year old 11PM, a far cry from my 13PM.

From what I’ve see so far, on WiFi is good but not great and with data it’s just horrible.

Just sharing the info, I don’t have the device myself.

Turning off background app refresh for some apps, Facebook in particular stopped the drain on my device.
