Following the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, some early adopters of the devices have noticed that the rear camera's main lens vibrates uncontrollably when the camera is opened in apps such as Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram, resulting in shaky video. The issue does not appear to affect the built-in Camera app.

The issue has been reported by users across Twitter, Reddit, TikTok, and the MacRumors Forums since the iPhone 14 Pro models launched on Friday, but it is unclear how widespread the problem is or what the underlying cause is. The main lens on iPhone 14 Pro models features "second-generation" sensor-shift optical image stabilization, and it is possible that the stabilizer is acting up due to a software bug, but this is merely speculation.

YouTuber Luke Miani said he experienced the issue on one of the iPhone 14 Pro Max units that he was testing. Miani shared a video of the issue that shows the main lens on the device vibrating uncontrollably, and he said the incident resulted in the lens being unable to focus properly in subsequent usage, even in the Camera app. Miani said that he took the iPhone to an Apple Store and was able to exchange the device for a new one.

If the issue is due to a software bug, Apple could implement a fix in the iOS 16.1 beta. We have reached out to Apple asking if it is aware of and/or investigating the issue, but the company has yet to respond to our request for comment.

Until the matter is resolved, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max owners should avoid opening the camera in apps like Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram if they are concerned about potential damage to the rear camera system. We will share any additional information about this issue, including any response from Apple, as it becomes available.

This always happens with this kind of cheap phones!. Oh, you mean a top of the innovation chain device from a trillion dollar company was not tested due to its revolutionary new features?. Sorry, don’t use your new phone. Buy a Chinese phone, oh sorry, they are banned just because.

Work from home quality. This is probably the first iPhone to be developed mostly during Covid.

Now we know why Cook is adamant about workers returning to the office. "Working" from the beach is over. Tim Cook has all the data on the lack of productivity and employee disengagement. Macrumors forum posters that claim they know how to run Apple better are not smarter than Tim Cook.

I'm skipping the iPhone 14 and probably also the iPhone 15. I'll buy the iPhone 16 because it'll be the first iPhone designed and produced with workers in the office.

the past two years are not impressing me. Apple needs to step back and take a couple years off and reflect on what made them great innovators to begin with. The economy is bad enough people don’t need new devices every year. It is ludicrous.

Welp, took 5 comments for one of the anti-WFH fanatics to come out of the woodwork and pretend bugs never existed before the pandemic 🤦‍♂️

No one says bugs didn't exist before.

It's the incredibly stupid and embarrassing bugs, hardware defects, and delays after delays for product launches. All of these have increased in frequency since WFH.

Before COVID, only the most disciplined and valuable members of the work force were given permission by employers to work from home. After COVID, everyone got to work from home. What could possibly go wrong?

your comment reads like a comedy skit, where Cook comes storming down the beach telling all the sunbathers to “get back to work you lazy people” 🤣 silly

Appreciate it but I don’t even do that haha

So I dunno if I wanna “try” and break my phone
Haven’t encountered this so far with extensive use of the stock camera app with 0.5-10x, regular photo, portrait, and video. Seems like the wide camera model is moving perpendicular to the length of the phone and someone else said it started in instagram when focusing on an object up close.

Hopefully this can be a quick software fix with 16.0.2 tomorrow or Tuesday. Really would like not to need to swap my device out for this. I haven’t used the camera in social media apps with my 14 PM yet and have zero intention of doing so with this bug. I disabled camera access in privacy settings too just in case.
