Hmm along time ago in a galaxy far far away ( Cork, Ireland ) I used to test this sort of stuff for Mac OS ( way before iOS) All popular software and applications were installed and tested ( base functionality at least) on ore-release versions of the OS. It's a basic function of all these apps to use the camera so why would they not do the same? I guess they dont do that anymore.

I love it. This, the activation issue, the frozen phones after data transfer.
I hope they finally realise that they need to hire new software engineers. Apple software quality is going down the drain.
They are lucky because they started with a very solid base developed by Bertrand Serlet and Scott Forstall supervised by Jobs.
But since macOS Yosemite and iOS 7 things are going south year after year. We got emojis tho. That’s important.

For a product that sells in the millions, I'm not surprised if there are few lemons in there. Personally, I've found the the right formula for when to buy a new iPhone is 6 months after launch. My iPhone X is a testament to that. My 6s while good still has some issues.
You talk like a person who worked in manufacturing 👍.
Most of the people commenting here never worked a day in manufacturing, so they don't know how manufacturing works, but they think they have experience to manage Supply Chain for iPhone.
I have been working in manufacturing for last 15 years with Chinese manufacturers.

not excited about Memoji either ? :)
Agree with you, Software quality has been lacking lately.
I got tired of MacOS issues so i installed Debian with Gnome on my Mac Mini at home.
Can't go back to Windows, i think Linux is better than Windows.

No one says bugs didn't exist before.

It's the incredibly stupid and embarrassing bugs, hardware defects, and delays after delays for product launches. All of these have increased in frequency since WFH.

[citation needed]

Before COVID, only the most disciplined and valuable members of the work force were given permission by employers to work from home.

Which is of course why prototypes were never oh, say, left in a bar
After COVID, everyone got to work from home. What could possibly go wrong?
Well the starbucks near my old office closed because no one int he business district works from the office anymore, that sucked I guess the last time I had to go in a few months ago to grab something I was missing that I’d left at my desk in 2020 and wanted caffeine, is that what you mean?

Nowadays you gotta be so paranoid about your newly purchased device.
I took the habit of obsessively testing everything within the return period and it's still a gamble, as you never know if the issue is software or hardware...

For example I'm having some problems with the phone (14 pro) not registering the unlock button sometimes when always-on-display is enbled (given how disabling it restores functionality, I'm leaning towards a software issue here).

The other trouble is that, with these constraints in the supply chain, you have to think thrice before asking for a replacement.
I think we have already come to the point you'd have to wait multiple weeks to get a replacement, which might end up having the same issue...

I have only tested the camera in Filmic Pro (speaking of non native apps) and my unit seems fine.

Third party apps never had the chance to beta test the iOS with the new hardware until the phones were released a few days ago. But wouldn't Apple's internal QA test the most popular apps to make sure their basic functionality is not affected by the new hardware?

Yes. But its still on the app developers to fix it so its ready for launch.

I mean thats not a given either even with these “large” app developers.

Example: see how long it took for MS to release a native M1 app for teams.

And thats MS! They probably have more people working on mac apps than most “independent developers”.

A native m1 version of teams only came out this year! Two years after the first m1 machine!

Whats MS excuse for taking two years?

well thanks for the anxiety lol
It only happened once. Killed the app, and then it never came back (yet). Just be sure if it does happen, that u quit the app asap. Then, test with the Default Camera app to make sure focusing on objects still works properly, as that's part of what can potentially break.

I have the same problem. It's not frequent, but it has happened to me a couple of times. The strange sound happened to me in applications like Snapchat.
