I would suggest anyone who uses these affected apps to revoke permissions for all apps to access the camera but Apple official apps until the fix is out next week. I expect that ought to avoid the problem. Of course my preference is to never use those apps anyway. ;)

Snapchat and Instagram have bug fixes that came out today - can anyone confirm if this fixes the issue for them? TikTok has not been updated for 2 days so they will need to release one too.
As others have said over and over, it's not the apps. It is not even possible to put an app on the app store that causes the camera to vibrate itself to death.

This is an issue with firmware that Apple is apparently going to fix.

Nah, it shouldn't be possible in the first place to develop an app that physically breaks the camera. Something is wrong at the hardware, software, API, firmware, or driver level causing this. Third party app devs are not to blame here.

Since it's social media apps that seem to be doing it, they're probably all using a certain API call that is triggering the camera to spaz out - an API that is developed and provided by Apple.

The real questions are:

1. Can this be fixed by an iOS update? And if not, oh boy do we have a big replacement program on our hands.

2. Are they going to replace each phone that exhibits this issue? It seems from early reports that once the camera has jiggled around, it has likely suffered permanent damage.

3. How widespread the issue is.

4. What caused it?

My guess is this.

This certain camera API takes parameters regarding the sensor-shift OIS mechanism's moving range, probably it has not been properly updated with the "2nd gen sensor-shift OIS" parameters, or there's been a bug preventing the apps to choose the right set of parameters, thus, causing the OIS mechanism to move beyond its designed boundaries, causing the vibration and friction.

Yes, it may have been a software issue and can be fixed later on, but, likely, those who have already experienced such vibration could have their cameras damaged permanently.

I had camera shaking with the Chase UK app after I tried to manually take a photo of my ID.
So I guess this is more likely related to bugs in the camera API.

And how laughable that some people think only social media apps use cameras.

It's a joint conspiracy between meta owned Facebook and Instagram and Chinese tiktok, organised and lead out of Chase Bank.
Now the big decision is, should we return the phones? Keeping in mind Apple is saying if we do that we will get a new one in 4 weeks.

Anyone that says this is normal has to get their head examined. No that is not normal!
Hey, so I got back my iPhone 13 Pro today and it actually does the same thing!!! So it is normal apparently. I’m gonna confirm with a third iPhone 13 Pro later tonight.

If you have any of this phones can you confirm? The picture that I shared with you is the result of focusing on a close object and then focusing in an object far away. What you see double is when the iPhone is changing cameras, it only last a second and then it focuses and you stop seeing double. I had never notified this before.

So I have to pay for an insurance to fix a defective equipment that I bought for $1,300.00 and got 3 days ago? That’s your recommendation?
Doesn't mean I'm happy about it. But if this issue persists in some way after the normal warranty period, good luck getting it fixed unless is becomes an officially recognized design flaw by Apple.

This has gotta be happening again because now that I updated the the latest update it’s so shaky again ):

Want to know something crazy? It happens in the stock camera app. Set your video capture settings to 4k 60fps and zoom it, the footage shakes and it has this weird mechanical sound in the video….unbelievable

Nothing here. Just when filming in 4k 30 using no zoom it intermittently shakes , the subject I’m recording that is.

Not seeing it or hearing it at 4k 60 fps, fully zoomed.
Video is steady with no mechanical noises.
