New images of an iPhone 14 Pro case fitted on an iPhone 13 Pro give us our best look yet at potential design changes for the camera lenses, flash, and LiDAR scanner on Apple's upcoming high-end iPhone.

The image of the case, shared on the Korean blog Naver by the account "yeux1122" reveals significantly larger camera lenses on the back on the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro. Attempting to fit the case designed for the iPhone 14 Pro onto an iPhone 13 Pro shows that each camera – the Wide, Ultra Wide, and Telephoto lenses – will grow in size. As a result, the flash and LiDAR scanner will also shift their positioning according to the images.

Past images of iPhone 14 Pro cases and dummy models have revealed that Apple is planning a more prominent camera bump on this year's iPhone. The larger camera lenses and the more protruding camera array on the back result from several new camera features expected. Most notably, Apple is expected to include a 48MP wide camera in this year's "Pro" iPhone, as well as improvements to low-light photography and possibly 8K video recording.

Another image shared in the same post shows that the volume buttons and the volume switcher will move slightly higher on the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro. Overall, leaked schematics of the upcoming iPhone earlier this year revealed a somewhat heavier and thicker design, thanks to a larger battery and bolstered camera hardware.

Apple will announce four new models of the iPhone 14 lineup this Wednesday during an event with the tagline "Far out," including the iPhone 14, the ‌iPhone 14‌ Plus, the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌, and the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max. Alongside new iPhones, Apple is expected to reveal the Apple Watch Series 8, a new Apple Watch SE, and an all-new Apple Watch "Pro." The second-generation AirPods Pro are also rumored to appear during the event.

Just wondering.. how are those companies able to create the covers already with exact measurements, yet no one is able to create an exact-sized rendering of the iPhone 14 before it is released? If you know the sizes, you could also design a rendering of the iPhone 14 instead of just creating cases?

I'm 70% convinced that Apple has staggered out these camera improvements to make sure that people buy new cases... It also means any second hand cases can only be used on the model it was meant for and are only relevant for owners of that exact model.

Edited to add: this was partly said in jest - and of course this will just be part of the business plan outlaid by Apple. I'm not criticising the move, I actually think it's genius and well thought-out.

I Disagree. There's only so much you can do with camera hardware without increasing the size of the sensors etc.

The larger LiDAR cutout is likely for aesthetics only but the invite looking like a LiDAR scan + the tweet from Halide makes me think the sensor is getting a big upgrade for better portrait mode and AR (the same upgraded sensor will be used in the AR Goggles next year)

at some point the weight distribution must be getting awkward with everything being placed in one corner of the phone? The iPhone is already too heavy. So heavy in fact, that I had to get a Ganglion Cyst removed from my wrist the other day! I am considering downsizing from the Max next year when usb-c and the periscope lens hopefully arrive. My wrists always hurt when I am on my phone too much, which happens a lot

I’m just concerned if this iPhone will fit on my MagSafe charger. It’s encased in a TwelveSouth Forté and my iPhone 13 Pro’s camera bump (in transparent case) already touches the charger. There’s literally no millimeter left, if the bump on 14 Pro is growing again then a lot of accessories that use the OG puck aren’t going to work anymore. Only bare MagSafe puck…

I had the 12 pro max and I hated that it was too heavy. I dropped it many times cause it see-sawed top down and out of my hand.

Happily using the 13 mini now.

Yeah you're right - I was speaking partly in jest and it was not meant as a criticism. It was just a comment on the fact that I think the last inter-model case compatibility might have been the iPhone X and XS?

Not everything is a conspiracy.
Yep, agreed buddy. Not everything is a conspiracy and neither is this. It was an applause on how well Apple thinks out its business plan when it comes to stuff like this. They plan things out quite well in advance: https://www.macrumors.com/2021/09/28/iphone-13-camera-interviews/

So whether this is a happy by-product of the above or that they plan the changes in with this in mind, I can assure you Apple is well aware of the positive impact this is having on their accessories sales - and it also has the positive impact of keeping the third party accessory companies happy too.

I believe Apple shares case dimensions with manufacturers so that there are cases available on launch. They likely do this with strict non disclosure agreements and restrictions on creating cads or using it for anything other than cases.

Most cases manufacturers wouldn’t want to jeopardise their relationship with Apple to make a mock up. It’s not until now right before launch that lower support staff start seeing these cases and leaking photos.

I would assume that the companies that get official measurements from Apple have NDAs.

I think I am going to pass on this years iPhone. I just cannot get over how ugly the back of the phone is. I am sure the 15 will be similar, but they need to find a way to better balance the aesthetic with the performance.
