No optimised battery charging?

Why don’t you use fast charging? Like 20w?

Do you use MagSafe?
opimised charging is enabled and it worked until I updated to iOS 17 which is a long time ago. I charge via lighting. Don't need 20W for overnight charging even 5W is too fast.

How’d you get the Siri shortcut that tells you everything bout iPhone batteries?

That’s the shortcut. You have to enable Share iPhone & Watch Analytics under Privacy & Security>Analytics & Improvements

That’s the approach as the 14 pros and older lack an adjustable charging limit which only 15 pros and 16 pros have these, iPhone 15 and later.

The link is broken but if you have a 15 pro to spare how accurate does it compare to the shortcut vs :apple: official one?

My 14pm has been magically stuck at 82% for what seems like forever. I guess it's healed now. It must be all in my mind that the battery is fading away quicker throughout the day than it used to. Le sigh.
It seems normal if you had it since launch. Did you play games or graphics intensive apps on it a lot?

Do you have Optimized Charging enabled and do you use magsafe, wired or wireless charging the most?

I'm not saying that it's abnormal for it to be at that level. I'm saying I watched it drop and drop over the course of 2 years and then it magically stopped and hasn't moved for probably 6 months at least. If anything, I'm a heavy user and I charge poorly. I do use a combo of magsafe and wireless almost exclusively which I do recognize is not the best for the health vs wired but this isn't about extending the battery health for the longest life. I'm saying that the code makes it look like it's above 80 longer than it is for dubious reasons.

For some reason, I’ve found this to be even more prevalent with iPads. They typically drop fairly quickly after that initial drop and then it stabilizes for a while. I think it’s normal.

My 9.7-inch iPad Pro had 87% after 334 cycles and 3 years. 5.5 years later, it’s at around 780 cycles and 84-85%. I think that, if anything, it initially drops too quickly. After all, 82% after two years isn’t great. Do you know how many cycles you have?

And yeah, exclusive wireless is almost the worst possible charging practice. I don’t think you can have both. Either you charge more efficiently or it will drop quicker. Still, if cycle count is high enough, it wouldn’t necessarily be too abnormal. That’s why, what’s your cycle count?

Current battery health status according to Coconut, purchased in September 2023.
Update: In five and a half months, it has degraded by only 1.2%, which I consider to be very good performance. Since upgrading to 18.4, I've noticed improved battery consumption.

My 14 Plus after 21 months: Still 90% ---> very, very nice !
I charge overnight using the old 5 W charger and the "optimized charging" option.

I am very pleased...

Took a year and a half to go from 100% to 86%. Then, 1 year to go from 86% to 84% where I stand now at almost 600 cycles. Very pleased with that. It is never linear as stated many times. Nothing on the horizon that makes me feel like spending $2K CDN for a replacement. I will just get a new battery when it is time. Happy with my iPhone and staying put with it.

it is well-known that HEAT kills Batteries...

So exposing the iPhone to the sun more than necessary (on the table in full sunlight in summer or charging while in a case from nearly 0-20% up to 80-100% , taking long videos while in a case i.e.) might be sub-optimal.

Because a case is extremely important for protection, I like my case a lot because it is relatively easy to take the iPhone out of it and put it back after in just 5 seconds.

While it is not everytime my routine to do so, I do this since some weeks more and more when at home.

And it is astonishing how HOT the iPhone gets while charging or having long conversations/taking longer videos in a well-protecting case.
So at least if you are at home, charging your iPhone without case might be just one method to protect the battery a little bit more and prolonging long-term battery-life...

My launch day 14 Pro finally hit 79% capacity. I think I just watched it happen in real time. Just a couple days ago it was at 81% capacity. I picked it up just now, jumped from 22% to 19% remaining which seemed unusual. Immediately checked the capacity and almost got a little too excited seeing it at 79% capacity.

I'll likely replace the battery sometime after WWDC depending on how many iOS 19 features I miss out on, if it's a lot, I might just get a 17 Pro this fall instead. I’m not sure I really want to upgrade right away as I still have so many lightning cables and accessories (including my $140 keyboard case). Maybe when my partner decides to upgrade his 14 Pro too, I’ll look into it again.

This is the feeling I’ve had since I upgraded to the 14 Pro Max from the 13 Pro Max.

The only reason I had upgraded last year was because I was tired of the heft and because there wasn’t any difference between the 16 Pro and Pro Max except for the size. I also got hyped up about Apple intelligence but it was another disappointment from Apple.

After 2 years and 10 months and 1,074 charge cycles, my battery health is still at 81%, which I think is incredible—especially compared to my wife’s iPhone 15 Plus, which is only 10 months old and already at 91% (298 cycles). And keep in mind, my usage is far more intense (including gaming), while hers is mostly social media.

To add to the above, I have charged the majority through a Samsung 25watts fast charger with battery optimisation on.

14 Pro purchased 01/06/23, numbers from analytics file 75.14% @ 661 cycles and 80% from settings menu. Also purchased AppleCare, raw value dipped below 80% while I still had coverage, but settings menu was at 81%, dropped to 80 after latest iOS update. Chat with Apple through messages said they go by settings menu value so I didn't get it replaced, maybe if I went in store I could have?

Either charged with the Belkin 3-1 MagSafe (majority over night) or 65w Belkin GaN charger. I don't care about chagaring practices, I'll just use and charge when needed. It gets through my day easily and I'll charge over night, if I'm going out/doing something different from usual I'll charge up before leaving.

Even now at this health, easily get's me through the day with my usage. So if the Air can get the same (or closer to when it was new) with its smaller battery, that's fine be me. If I think the price is too much, I'm just going to replace the battery and go another year.
