After being at 92% for a couple of weeks, I’m now down to 91%. Guess my iPhone may soon have an “accident” so I can get an AC+ replacement (j/k)
“Apple reps looking to a way to track your phone serial after this comment in anticipation of said accident” lol

Here we go.

Cycle count - 181
Battery health - 95%
Manufacturer - Sunwoda
Are you using the paid version of Coconut Battery? I cannot see the manufacturer name on mine and I've the free version.

Something is very wrong here. How’s your charger cycle only 32 and your battery capacity is less than 93%?
Baffling right especially for a phone that's only 3 months old! Apple support (both in store and over the phone) gave me the usual spiel of 'your battery has passed diagnostics and has over 80% capacity (currently 98% according to iOS), so there's nothing we can do'.

I even offered to share analytics logs from the phone which clearly show the rapid loss in nominal charge capacity and rawmaxcapacity, but no dice.

Yep that’s definitely ain’t right. To be honest I expected that response from Apple. Maybe next year when it drops below 80% you’ll be able to get a replacement for free.

Coconut Battery is quite known. Anyway, back to the thread:
My POS iPhone 14 Pro Max Battery reads as follows:
Manufacturer: DESAY
Capacity: 3950/4297 mAh
Cycles: 206
Health: 92%
Bought: October 8th, 2022
Worst battery degradation I've ever had in a phone.
Update, 18 days later, 3uTools reports it at 89% (iOS still says 90%) with 218 cycles. Quite frustrating.

My 14 Pro Max, which I got on launch day, is at 97% health.

I charge it every night on a Belkin 3-in-1 MagSafe charger (same one we recently saw an article about), and often keep it on an identical charger at my desk (I like the display, often I'm playing music from the phone to my Home Pods and like to have the image there of what's playing). Other than the the Belkins, I'll have it connected to a lightning charger in the car when driving around.

I don't pay too much attention to what kind / when /etc of charging I do; I let the phone decide how to manage its own charge. Seems to have done a great job so far.

I wonder if the phones that are seeing significant degradation are in hot locations when charging, etc. This can be bad for battery health.

Oh, and I never use a case on my phone which might have an additional benefit of keeping the phone a little bit cooler while charging.

Im having the degradation pretty bad and I’m in London. We hardly have proper summer. Forget about keeping it in heated condition. Lol.

Yep same. Even I don’t use cases at all.

It seems to be some selective devices but we can’t pin point on a specific type of battery manufacturer either.

Worst thing we can do (and obviously many of us will do). I was given a phone with a bad battery, yet we reward by buying the same phone with marginal improvements hoping for a better battery.

It think you'll agree that your situation is anecdotal and that the overwhelming majority user experience is that the batteries are not only fine, but are generally really good.

It may be a bit more than anecdotal, given the number of users reporting this here, Reddit or other networks, but I do not tend to reward a company that gave me a bad product by purchasing the one immediately following it to remedy this (and the 15 Pro Max doesn't sound compelling at all for me if you have a 14 Pro Max).

All totally fair.

One of the things I keep in mind is that they sold ~64 million units from the iPhone 14 series:
  • 14: 16.5 million
  • 14 Pro: 21 million
  • 14 Pro Max: 26.5 million
(source: https://www.cnbc.com/2023/08/28/app...smartphone-shipments-globally-omdia-says.html)

Even a really small percentage of battery issues will still yield a large number of affected devices. Add to that the phenomenon that people with poor experiences are far more likely to post about those experiences than those for whom the experience has been what they were hoping (i.e., people are much more inclined to post "this sucks"; very few people are impelled to post "yup, everything still working fine").

Personally, I'm always excited for the new devices (as you can tell from my signature, hah). Can't wait for the keynote next week, and can't wait to get my 15 Pro Max!

Mind blowing amount of units isn’t it, general speaking 😬 puts things into perspective that there are not more “issues” actually…
