I’ll take camera improvements (glass) over thinness! Ive has certainly left the building!
Thinnest iPhone was 6. Every iPhone since has got thicker year by year. So it’s safe to say Ive was firmly on board with thicker products. Not sure where the ‘I’ve can only do skinny’ thing came from although it’s often repeated.

If I didn't make frequent use of the Pro's camera and video capabilities in a professional setting, I'd probably go for something thinner, a Mini perhaps?

I’m going to buy the 14 Pro and rock it for a good solid 5 years. Looks like a sturdy fella to me. Not too keen on the color options though.

Edit: typo
Same. I really don't like the purple and was hoping there would be a blue or green option.

Or something between silver and space black... you know, like SPACE GRAY

Literally have no clue which one to go for this year, especially given the EU price increase. Was thinking the 14pro.

Seems like all you get this year is a camera bump that sounds impressive, but in reality who really takes pics like they demo in the marketing.

Almost feel like waiting another year and keeping my iPhone 11, which is still just fine.
If you actually work in media or are a photographer and really passionate, constantly wanting to take photos and shoot video, then all of this probably makes sense to some extent(except maybe not so much considering the extensive file transfer times you're still stuck with using USB 2.0 Lighning from your iPhone to your computer. :).

But for what I see 99% of all people do with these phones it's complete overkill. Total waste that's just going to be replaced by a marginally better camera setup 1-2 years from now.

But of course hardly anyone can resist this sort of hypothetical hyper-reality, where everyone is either doing outdoor sports or shooting Vogue covers 24 hours a day, in full make-up wearing haute couture. In that World you'd obviously need an iPhone 14 Pro.

The weight of the 14 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max are so suspiciously similar (heavier by 0.01oz) that I suspect someone at Apple has realized they’ve reached the practical limit in weight for the Pro Max models. I imagine someone being like: “this phone is not allowed to be >240g period. I don’t care what you have to do to achieve that but make it happen”.

And I’m glad. Stopping the weight creep is a good thing. All while still having battery life and camera improvements too! Well done Apple!

Solid camera update, but I'm mostly impressed how the Dynamic Island works, and didn't leak! Incredible job by Apple's team on that one.
I think I saw an image of something close to Dynamic Island around here.. could've been another site but I knew it was coming.

Wondering if shooting in 4K ProRes will require 256GB again...
Well, it'll definitely require something faster than Lightning when transferring footage to your computer.

But no changes there this year, still the exact same USB 2.0 speeds as on 2012's iPhone 5??

Me too, but this version looks a bit boring to me and the purple could turn lackluster very quickly. Not too keen on the gold either

Massively disappointing. Apple is on a downwards slope. Started with price increases which are only getting worse, then removing items from boxes ( charger ) and now artificially limits software features from last years flagship… One of the big selling points of Apple was always how long devices are supported. You may not have a new design every 12 months but they were built to last hence you paid a bit more. Now a less than 12 month flagship is effectively outmoded. This mentality means the iPhone 14 will probably be the same next year. We are now in the Android sphere of only supported for less than a year.
Sad times.

That's kind of a silly statement. Quality improvements can definitely be seen in simple point-and-shoot photos between iPhone generations. Granted, a lot of people do take photos of some dumb crap that don't necessarily warrant quality. There are a lot of people who really don't even seem to care whether they take a good/decent photo or not, but some of us non-professionals still like to be able to easily take some good photos.

Ready to start seeing some reduction in size for the Pro models. My 13 Pro is significantly more noticeable in my shorts pocket than iPhone X and before were. Get rid of the damn camera bump too.

I do. And I know plenty of others in my industry who do as well. But I think my 12 Pro is fine and I'm going to hold on for another year.

Per Apple, my 11Pro is 8.1mm thick, so 7.85mm must not include the massive camera bump?

what would lightning have to do with storage size?

Yup. People forget that the "Pro" moniker means something, or at least it should. For work I made the switch from DSLR to 11Pro two years ago. Its quality was good enough for my project specs, and the better follow-focus and overall convenience more than made up for other limitations. Looking forward to the 14 Pro upgrade. I'll just deal with the bump.

For those wondering like I was, the 7.85mm is NOT the thickness from the display to the top of the rear camera lenses, but from the display to the back of the phone. The camera lenses that stick out the back are additional thickness on top of the 7.85mm.
