Omg Apple is such a SIZE QUEEN.. BIG phones only people. We're going to take a normal sized phone, call it a "mini" so that nobody buys it, then cite poor sales as reason to discontinue it. Now your phones will never fit in your pockets again! Bwahahahah!

Oh and this “Dynamic Island” thing really isn’t going to catch on. God awful name. Makes you wonder what horrors they rejected.
I disagree...this feature was the highlight of the announcement. Many Android companies wanted the first to the whole screen phone. Now watch them follow Apple's lead on this smart, but innovative touch. This reminds of the rubber-band effect. It was so subtle, but genius...Pro and Pro Max will be selling like hotcakes this year and until next year.

I can't believe we are still having a conversation on phone size. You still have the option of buying the 13 mini before they discontinue. You are considered someone who is a small, small tiny fraction of what the people want (possibly less than 1% of the population). Generally, 6"-7" phones are the norm now. To be honest, 5.4" in the hand isn't that big of difference compared to 6.1". I held both and its not much of difference.

Things I wonder about the 14 Pro

• will we be able to use the brighter flash as a brighter flashlight?

• has anyone seen photos of the 14 with the new battery percentage readout NOT inside the battery icon itself, as previously rumored?

• is the lightning port updated in any way for faster data transfer like they recently did with the iPad? Being stuck on USB 2.0 speeds to transfer 4K ProRes footage and ProRaw photos is very much NOT a “Pro” move
Stuck on USB2.0 speed. They gotta save things for the spring refresh "new" 14.

Unless Verizon offers an incredible upgrade deal like they did last year, I see zero reason to upgrade from a 13 Pro. Still 6GB RAM? No usb c? Still usb 2.0 transfer speeds? Yeah, no thank you.

Wow that new white box will sure make up for a 48 pixel camera with no 8k video. And that awesome software-morphing pill. I mean I could just watch that for days.

Lotsa luck to Apple, sincerely. In the meantime, I canceled my two pro max orders and will wait for next year and popped in an order for a blackmagic 6k pocket cinema camera.

Dumbest move ever by Apple, and over the decades there have been some pretty dumb moves. At the very least they should have negated the 8k rumors out of the box for like, a YEAR.

That was also the first and last keynote I sat through live instead of just scrolling to the one thing I was planning to buy. That won't ever happen again either. I know what excellent watch ads I'll never buy look like.
Not sure what orders you cancelled, but good luck to you.

Still extremely confused as to why the innovative Dynamic Island couldn't be on all 14 lineup....
Different hardware. The front facing cameras in the 14 are much closer to the edge of display than camera island on the 14 Pro models. That might not be a good excuse but it's something that can't simply be replicated in software.

USA phones not supporting a physical SIM card is certainly a disadvantage for those traveling worldwide. In many countries it takes no time to buy a local SIM card, put it into your phone and have a local phone number to avoid high roaming charges especially for data.

Also having a physical SIM card makes switching phones possible in seconds. I have a spare phone at home and when my phone needed servicing, it was an easy job to put my SIM card in my spare phone and go back to being online in seconds. Good luck with an e-SIM, especially if the phone is completely dead.

Luckily, iPhones in many other countries still accept physical SIM cards so far. Maybe in the future, activating the second e-SIM locally will be equivalent to buying a prepaid physical card but until it is available worldwide, I think deleting the physical card is a disadvantage rather than an advantage at this point.

Ridiculous isn’t it.

Lightning for iPhone and AirPods.
USB-C for iPad
MagSafe for MacBooks.
Lightning for iPhone, base iPad, AirPods, Magic Mouse/Trackpad/Keyboard, AppleTV remote
USB-C for iPad/MacBooks

Doesn't seem ridiculous at all. There's probably 5 billion Lightning cables floating around out there, they're not hard to find, and none of the devices that use Lightning today needs the faster charging and/or faster data rates that USB-C can support.

MacBooks you can still charge with USB C thankfully so that’s cool with me. But the AirPods and iPhone are a pain. It should’ve been this year!

There are convenient apps like Airalo that offer prepaid eSim cards in seconds just like physical SIM cards. I’ve used eSim for years. I’ve never had a problem traveling. Switching phones is a bit of a pain though but with physical sims cards it’s been a pain for me as well lol

There's absolutely zero advantage to removing the SIM slot. The only benefit is for Apple, where it's a cost cutting measure. Fewer manufacturing steps and lower component costs. Consumers are also giving Apple authority to determine which carrier can and can't be used on iPhone. Apple can easily monetize this by extracting dollars from carriers. What's sad is some people buying this hook, line, and sinker.

It's better for Apple (saves space, tooling), better for carriers (easier to provision for different network cores - older SIMs may not support certain features like 5G) and it's something most consumers don't know/care about.

Apple doesn't "extract dollars from carriers". They sell iPhones to carriers, it's that straightforward.

Apple hasn't used the SIM tray space for anything, just like they haven't used the space for non-mmWave models for anything.

For the past 4 years, iPhone has offered the option of eSIM and physical SIM. There is zero benefit to carriers this year.

Like I said, the only benefit is for Apple in manufacturing cost savings.

Why not just add the additional antenna to all iPhones, not just US. Cheapskates.

Sure, European regulators are still in consultation on mmWave rollout here but it’s coming soon.
Well at least we pay more for it.

Wait a second...

Says who? Personal experience on the carrier side, dealing with tens of thousands of people sticking their 8 year old SIM into iPhone 12/13 and wondering why they can't get 5G. Less calls into customer care or trips to the store getting a new SIM = "benefit to carriers".

I've seen this alarming trend lately where companies charge more money for products with more features than those with fewer features.
The notches are different from the 14 vs 14 Pro...I am glad that Apple made this an exclusive Pro feature. I wish that Apple released their rumored "vapor chamber process" as I am curious that one day M and A-series chips will join as one.
