Says who? Personal experience on the carrier side, dealing with tens of thousands of people sticking their 8 year old SIM into iPhone 12/13 and wondering why they can't get 5G. Less calls into customer care or trips to the store getting a new SIM = "benefit to carriers".

Says the hundreds of carriers and MVNOs globally who don't have plans to transition to eSIM and can't offer services. Compared to the corner case of grandparents sticking in 8 year old SIM cards?

There's definitely zero benefit to carriers. It's pretty obvious which group is the "many" and which is the "few."

Macbooks have USB-C also. MagSafe is an additional charging method and welcome. I was pissed when they took it away.

USB-C is the reason I will still not upgrade from my X. I guess I'm waiting and hoping for the 15 to have it.
I literally cannot remember the last time I plugged anything into the lightning port of my iPhone(s). Or even needed to.

Every carrier that supports iPhones has already been preparing for this transition. MVNOs buy connectivity from those carriers which have already been supporting eSIMs. People using their same 8 year old SIM year after year is not an edge case, it's the norm. They only stop using their SIM (nano SIM been around 10 years) when it no longer works.

There are some people in this thread/convo that actually work for a carrier on this topic... and some that don't.

Still extremely confused as to why the innovative Dynamic Island couldn't be on all 14 lineup....
Because they want you to spend more. Like any smart business would. Make a cheaper option for people that refuse to spend more, but give them plenty of reason to want to spend more.

While I understand that USB-C is very useful hardware upgrade, I wouldn’t be willing to miss out on all the new features and enhancements that have accrued since the iPhone X was released in 2017. I guess I’m just not that much of a stoic.

I'v been saying the same too. I'm on a XS Max and I'm finally caving after saying that I wasn't upgrading until the brought back TouchID (I HATE FaceID) and switched to USB-C. I believe they'll bring USB-C on the 15, but I'm doubtful that we'll see TouchID return soon. For me, the improvements since 2018 are too many to keep waiting, and they were especially noticeable this summer on vacation. Night photos suck compared to the 13. I couldn't even see my phone screen at the beach because it's so dim. On the drive there, it kept overheating and lagging while plugged into the car charger- freezing while I was relying on it for directions. And forget about actually using it in the sun. It got too hot and shut down every time. I'm hoping that the thermodynamics have been greatly improved over the last few years. I'm also looking forward to the increased battery life and storage. I've almost maxed out my 512 gigs and I have to charge at least twice a day, despite it showing my battery is still relatively healthy.

Apple probably wants to make the Pro customers shoulder more of the costs for manufacturing the hole-punch display initially (and also to differentiate the Pro in marketing) so they didn't add it to the 14, and since even the smaller notch on the 13/14 would take up too much space for the software implementation to be all that useful, they just didn't bother putting in the development cost. I'm sure the non-pro models will get the island when the hole-punch gets added to it as well.

Y'all USB-C holdouts might be waiting in perpetuity. I think Apple would sooner go "port-less". Works just fine on the Apple Watch. You can get footage/files off the phone via AirDrop, or they put some kind of smart connector (a la iPad) on the back or where the Lightning port currently resides.

The same reason why three cameras and all the other features that are only on the pro can’t be on the entire lineup. There has to be some differentiation or just you might as well buy the regular iPhone

There's also capacity considerations. Their OLED suppliers may not be able to ramp 20 million of the screens with pill holes.

Never fails. Apple releases new stuff and MacRumors forums fill up with awful take after awful take. Thanks everyone for the laughs.
It’s almost like the forms are some sort of Apple information site. Like who would go to MacRumors to find out stuff about Apple products right

That’s probably also true. It’s also about keeping the price down. Even the regular iPhone is expensive compared to many cheaper android phones. Sure the average person would love some fancy island thing on the screen but if you told them it’s going to cost $100 they might not love it so much. I think eventually it will filter down to the regular iPhone.

I hope the new flash means the flashlight gets brighter. That would be a huge quality of life improvement.

I disagree...this feature was the highlight of the announcement. Many Android companies wanted the first to the whole screen phone. Now watch them follow Apple's lead on this smart, but innovative touch. This reminds of the rubber-band effect. It was so subtle, but genius...Pro and Pro Max will be selling like hotcakes this year and until next year.
I meant the use of the name/feature description. It‘s comically bad.

Omg Apple is such a SIZE QUEEN.. BIG phones only people. We're going to take a normal sized phone, call it a "mini" so that nobody buys it, then cite poor sales as reason to discontinue it. Now your phones will never fit in your pockets again! Bwahahahah!
Have you seen the size of many Android phones? It appears that people like it big.

Literally not anything to do with what I said about the "forms".

Yes forms forums firms... It's called autocorrect. I'm pretty sure with your post I quoted in my reply that the misspelling didn't confuse you that much 🤣

USA phones not supporting a physical SIM card is certainly a disadvantage for those traveling worldwide. In many countries it takes no time to buy a local SIM card, put it into your phone and have a local phone number to avoid high roaming charges especially for data.

Also having a physical SIM card makes switching phones possible in seconds. I have a spare phone at home and when my phone needed servicing, it was an easy job to put my SIM card in my spare phone and go back to being online in seconds. Good luck with an e-SIM, especially if the phone is completely dead.

Luckily, iPhones in many other countries still accept physical SIM cards so far. Maybe in the future, activating the second e-SIM locally will be equivalent to buying a prepaid physical card but until it is available worldwide, I think deleting the physical card is a disadvantage rather than an advantage at this point.
Apple claims to have done a lot of work around this. I look forward to seeing how it works. It’s rare for Apple to make changes that make the user experience worse. Hopefully it’s an even better experience.

Sounds like your ready for a new iPhone and your old one is ready for recycling @ Apple. 🤷

Honestly the sat phone feature is my biggest selling point and the only reason I’m upgrading from my 13PM.

I am routinely far out of cell service for work, but my employer does not have satphones.

Judging by your avatar, would your employer happen to be Ukrainian army?
