This is a great use of the space, and I'm happy to see the notch gone. I dont care if dynamic island goes the way of the touch-bar, because that will likely mean we have full, unobstructed screens with no notch/hole/pill/island. I live in the moment, and when this feature goes away, something else will come along. Some of you may love it or hate it, I personally love it; and this device, and its features, are pretty much perfect for me as of this exact moment in time. Trying to cling onto these things and guess a future for their current implementation is pretty murky. It works now, its being used more than the notch ever was, and the devs putting in work on the magic pill / dynamic island now are bringing creative solutions to this design. I think this is a win-win for all (notch haters (me), notch lovers, non-interested)

I don’t know. It’s a nice multitasking feature. It’s not about the island, it’s just that we didn’t have any space that showed us what was happening, like a task bar in windows or the dock in a Mac. I believe they will let it there even if there’s no notch at all
If it wasn't there the same crowd would be complaining how Apple is not very innovative anymore.

A different train of thought. After having used 16.1 with a baseball game, what I started to realize is that the score was so in my face in every screen in every app with such a contrast (black) that I started to become distracted from what I was doing to stare at the score and see if it was going to update. While I think the idea a great design concept to explore, it basically is the opposite of focus modes. I think what might have been a better approach, at least with the sports scores is to collapse the scores into an icon and animate to show when the score updates instead of “3 - 6“ for the entire time the live activity is active.

Another observation was it was annoying that you currently don’t have control over which app has the attached space versus detached. For instance, screen recording the score functionality pushed it into detached with only an icon while screen recording took up the attached with an icon, making both scores go away. Would be nice to be able to touch and pull the detached icon down to make it disappear, similar to dragging an icon out of the dock. Or to drag the detached space to the attached space to swap which one gets more real estate.

No way!! Sorry but the dynamic island is simply lipstick on the pig. Most people won't use it or simply do not know how to use it.
It would have been a better decision to keep Dynamic Island away from iOS. Apple should open their Api so developers can do such kind of things and if anyone needs that kind of feature, it should be available to download from the appstore.

Apple was once known for simplicity. It focussed on 80% of the features people use leaving the other 20% behind. This way Apple achieved a system that is easy to use. Nowadays Apple became crazy for new features, every year, new features.
You say “sorry but” like anyone’s going to be hurt by your opinion

Dynamic Island will wind up in the same trash heap of design history as the Touch Bar. It's a temporary solution to a temporary problem, the notch. Once Apple figures out how to get all the Face ID stuff under the display Apple will transition Dynamic Island to the Oops Peninsula.
No, based on all of the positive reception (a few curmudgeons notwithstanding), once the cutouts are gone, the dynamic island will be free to be even more dynamic and will no longer need to avoid the interior space or be limited to portrait orientation.

I agree 100%. All sports apps have an array of notification options, the amount and how often you want to be notified, and you can mute any game notifications at any time. Apple is not exactly reinventing the wheel here. This truly is the opposite of "focus"

I just hope Apple DON'T add dynamic island to the new MacbookPro, that will be so stupid on a laptop, like the touchbar. I'm happy with the classic top full bar (now cut in two by the notch but...).

Ive never seen an iPhone feature so "meh" get this much hype...
Well it's been like 5 years without any changes to the iPhone user experience, so any change whatsoever, combined with a large marketing push, will get ridiculous hype.

Dynamic Island is a gimmick feature. It's gonna go by the wayside sooner than later. Even I admit that the marketing worked on me initially. For about 12 hours, I was thinking about upgrading my iPhone primarily because of this dynamic island feature, then I came to my senses and realized how "meh" it was.

But everyone was praising them for the live activities. Like why would I wanna know where is my shipment all the time? But then you people praised Always on Display which is the same principle. Why would I want my phone on all the time? You can’t praise one and trash the other.

What if I just want to know sometimes? Is that okay? Can I enjoy the feature when I want, and not use it when I don't want it?

Dynamic Island is legit awesome.
Its seriously Da'Bomb!

While small AndroidOS developers copy and sell a bit of broken kit here and there, android users looking like this to make it all work like the real thing ...

I don’t know if Apple would give you that option. We can’t even silent notifications but keeping the ringtone for incoming calls so I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

wow! Apple blows it out of the park yet again! I’m captivated by this amazing feature. So cool! Definitely worth a $1,000 upgrade! Thank you, Tim Cook, for not taking stupid innovative risks that are untested in the market. With you, I know it’s safe to buy a brand new apple product, because I know it has already been tested in the market by others for at least two years. And that’s the Apple Difference!
