The era of the annual upgrades I feel is largely over save the early adopters and YouTube tech people. These are nice upgrades but not life changing.

I disagree with the 15 pro being a “significant” upgrade over the 14 pro. Its a nice refinement. You can always count on the new iphone being better than the last but If i was to upgrade from my 14 pro i doubt i would ever notice a difference.

As a current 14 Pro user, I hear you. But I don't think Apple is targeting those that upgrade every year no matter what. Why would they? They don't need to. Those customers represent a much smaller percentage of the overall iPhone user base than some here may realize. Thus, and wisely, Apple is focused the 2-3 year upgrader (and beyond). Through that lens, these upgrades are much more significant. Even moving from a 13 Pro sees some pretty nice updates. I know their yearly updater expects Apple to reinvent science every year, but that's just not as doable as some would hope.

As a yearly upgrader, I'm most looking forward to the device weigh savings and camera advancements. Should be fun.

From the article..."It is only worth sticking with the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ if you are holding off for an even more substantial upgrade in the future."
-------------------------------------------------------

Rebuttal: Or if you value your hard earned money and refuse to participate in the manic upgrade upgrade upgrade for tiny improvements cycle which only gives Apple more undeserved cash.
Yeah I think "It is only worth sticking with the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ if..." is way overstating it.

Up until now, I was expecting to go with a Pro Max for the first time to get the enhanced zoom, but upon further reflection… ehhh an extra 2x zoom isn’t going to change things much.

If anyone is feeling the draw of the zoom lens, don’t base your decision on it. Even if it were a 10x zoom, you can’t expect a phone lens it to give you the kind of performance a good 10x interchangeable lens can give you.

You can zoom with your feet for most things and the things that are too far away will still be too far away. They’ll merely be very small instead of tiny at 5x vs 3x.

I expect to put in for a 256GB 15 Pro… sometime soon. I will procrastinate as I always do because I hate upgrading.

It’s almost like they posted the comparison to allow people to decide for themselves…

They’re the lightest Pro phones since the XS, and given the ever increasing weight, a reversal in that trend is a positive.
Nobody was asking for a lighter phone nor making comparisons to an old one that’s 5 years old?

In fact it’s been the opposite. We want phones with better battery life and if it’s thicker so be it.

Just don’t buy into the marketing. You won’t notice the difference day to day.

The 15 has some nice extras, considering you pay the same amount as you did last year. Eventually, they are going to have to raise prices to make some more meaningful upgrades. You aren’t going to get too much if prices stay the same.

It’s really a matter of personal preference and choice whether you want to upgrade or not, regardless from which generation iPhone you’ll make the jump from.

Honestly I'm wondering if I'll notice the upgrade from my 13 pro max. There are things I like about the 15 Pro max from my 13 pro max, like the dynamic island, but I survived without it for a year, I imagine I would for another year. I just see all these upgrades as incremental, basically every year you look at a new camera, a new chip, and a new screen. The action button doesn't entice me alot as I see its usefulness on my watch but wonder if I'll find the same usefulness with my phone. And the arguments about the camera and stuff don't do it for me either as I'm just a father and a tech person, I don't shoot professional film so if I have a half decent camera I'm good.

Where I did come down yesterday on choosing the ProMax over the 15 Plus was the return on investment, it was about a $200 difference but when you looked at the trade in value of the 14 ProMax and 14 Plus it was also about $200 so why not get the bigger once in that case if you'll get it back when you trade it in.

May be for some, but for me my 14Pro is perfectly fine for one more year. The era of the annual upgrades I feel is largely over save the early adopters and YouTube tech people. These are nice upgrades but not life changing.
I still have a 13 Pro and it will get me by for another year. I have been at the every three year mark when it comes to phone upgrades.

Yep... Notice they will monetize the SOS feature after a device is 2 years old ( you will have to start paying for it) i wonder what other services in the future may work this way.

I find it interesting that Hartley who is in his early 20's, has admitted in he and Dan's videos that he has never used an Android phone. One cannot credibly push a product and should not be advising the public without having any personal experience at all with competing products. Great radio voice but please investigate what else is out there.

I want to know more about these 24 megapixel pictures… what is the difference compared to the 14 pro? why can’t the 14 pro do this? Is this a software lock thing? And is it actually going to be noticeably better than the default 14 pros 12 megapixel pictures? And how much more space do the 24megapixel photos use?

I don't know why, but every year I am always surprised by the number of people with last years flagship iPhone letting us know they aren't buying this year's flagship iPhone... I don't even think Apple expects most 14 Pro/Pro Max users to upgrade.

I have long since stopped the annual upgrade because I enjoy the larger differences over 2 years. My 13 Pro is being replaced with a 15 Pro Max, which will feel like a fairly noticeable change across the board. Larger display, USB-C, Always on Display, Dynamic Island, titanium, action button.

Thank you for putting this list together, and for putting a dash in the column if it doesn't apply so that everything is side-by-side. Much easier to digest. Are you able to put together a comparison between the iPhone 14 Pro, 15, and 15 Pro?
