Not sure where the proper place to ask this is, but if my iPhone has incurred a hair strand thick 1cm scratch on the display since pre-ordering the iPhone 14 Pro Max, will that affect the trade in credit I get from AT&T/Apple through the trade in program?

I think yes, unfortunately :(

Yet somehow we will never get the feature for an Apple watch to tell us when we leave our phone somewhere (optional, disable for home). It will tell me when I leave my damn water bottle every time though.

Interesting. I used wired CarPlay, but will try with Bluetooth. Thanks!
Wired Carplay didn't do it, huh?! wow, I would have thought it would :/

Well, hopefully bluetooth works for you and it continues to work for me. I remember it behaving this way because after I would get done with a workout I was amazed at how intelligently it knew that I was done... and after a few times I realized it MUST be because it connect to car bluetooth.

I hope this is it, and it continues.

*oh, please make sure that the notifications for end workout are turned on.

Lamesauce, I did the att credit - $1000 and prepaid the remainder. At least it can’t be more than $200 difference since I’ve Apple care++?
Not sure. I think it may depend on if the folks who look at these things notice the scratch. Good luck!

Only on the 14? Apple is really growing into a greedy shady company. You really have to read the fine print on anything they advertise. It’s getting harder and harder to be an apple fan.

I wonder what you're responding to. Are you responding to the fact that Always On is only available on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max? You have to have the right hardware features to have Always On so that it's not a battery suck and those are the only 2 phones with those hardware features. This includes ability to slow the refresh rate, OLED screens (I believe, because that means pixel lightning can be individually turned on or off), and probably some other chip thingie for power management.

So I have been thinking about all the knuckleheads who are complaining that the AOD isn't actually always on. Putting power consumption aside, one of my questions would have been what happens when I put the phone in my pocket and the screen is still on? I know that it has sensors that will turn the screen off but if it actually stayed on, I am confident that you would get unwanted screen interraction with undesired consequences. There are good reasons why the screen should turn completely off.

Your scenario does not apply. When dimmed, the "always on" display is locked. You need to raise/tap it to wake the screen AND unlock it with your face to be able to interact with what's on the screen. So the chances for accidental interaction with notifications etc is the same as if the screen is completely off.

You mean like this? You can get a notification on your watch when you leave your phone somewhere except for specific locations you choose.

This feature is lame. Leave it to Apple to not understand what the word ALWAYS means. If I plug my phone into my upright lightning dock then the screen is on all the time. If I attach it to my magnetic wireless charger the screen turns off after 10 minutes.

That’s good to know. I don’t have mine yet so I haven’t got to experience it for myself.

While we are at it, can the Apple Watch notify us when it has lost connection with the iPhone? So we don't lose the iPhone! :)

That would actually be the find my iPhone “left behind” feature. If I leave my phone in my truck and walk away with my watch on my wrist, I will get a notification saying I left my phone behind.

How far do you have to go for it to trigger?

So I work construction and have a measuring wheel so I can actually give you a pretty realistic number.
I left my phone in my truck and then walked at a brisk pace in one direction and kept walking until I felt my wrist vibrate letting me know that my phone wasn’t with me anymore. 700’.
Earlier, I left my keys in my truck and walked away with my phone and it was roughly 500’ before my phone vibrated telling me my keys weren’t with me anymore.

Thanks. That gives me a good idea of how it works. It also probably bvaries because of the interval between pings.

I live in the "big city" so 500' is a bit of a way away. :)

I do think it is an interval thing. I went on a 4 wheeler ride and I got at least a half mile away before it pinged telling me I left my keys behind.

It would be nice to be able to decrease the ping interval if required. It would mean a hit on battery life but I would want to know right away if I left my bag behind. I don't understand why Apple seems to keep info like this a secret. I wonder if there are any technical papers on the operation of the Air Tag.
