I’d say people will like this much more than a black screen. To me, THIS seems to be the right way to do AoD, while showing pixels moving because of battery concerns seems like a workaround because technology is not ready.

Nah, not me. I love the simplicity of the Galaxy S series lock screen. IMO, it's absolutely the right way to do AoD. And the pixels in Samsung's AOD move around to avoid screen burn-in, not to save battery. I would be concerned about screen burn-in if Apple's AoD doesn't do the same.

Agree 1000%.

You people will see photos of my cats whether you like it or not now when having coffee with me. :D:D:D:D

For me, I can set my phone down on my desk and just with a glance, I can see the time and any notifications without having to interact with the device at all. My work phone is an S21, thats how I know..
Yes sure directly it uses more power, but indirectly it could save. Don't need to light the screen up every time you need to check time or notifications. And if you don't pick it up you won't unlock it and check other things. The one question I have is if you do get notifications, will it stay dim when it shows it?

The very first review I watched (MKBHD) says he turned off always on display specifically because he noticed an impact on battery life. So I don't think it is "too early to tell".

This is not the right way to do always on display. It is too bright and includes too much.

I would love a very dim view of clock + widgets + some kind of notification indicator on a BLACK BACKGROUND.

Android has done this right forever. There is no excuse for Apple to be messing this up when it took so long to come to the iPhone in the first place.
This is what I said on day one, and got downvoted lol. Weird nerds want these weird nerd features no one ever uses, and they scream and yell for them, and when they come out they're just like "meh". Like they screamed for the mini, and yet it didn't sell.

Weren’t people crying for always on for years? Now that they have they it aren’t happy. Some people will never be happy no matter what.
Well I would guess most that are crying now don't want it. But you can turn it off so who cares. Choices are good. I'm amazed Apple has been giving more choices lately instead of our way or the highway.

This is the most annoying thing about Macrumors sometimes. Because Apple introduces a new feature that is lacking for people, we can't criticize it?

That is my only concern: burn in. The Apple Watch S5 up showcase burn in a lot here (pretty much all I‘ve seen, testable via e.g. flashlight mode). That‘s the only thing keeping me on the edge whether to enable this.
I just need to know if it turns AOD off when in Sleep focus.
Sleep Focus is the sole focus mode that disables always on (with afaik no way to enable it for that mode).

Lol Apple isn’t “messing this up” just because you personally disagree with their choices. This is how Apple wanted to do it, and it seems like many people like it better than the Android version. If you don’t like it, you have multiple options: 1) don’t buy the iPhone 14 Pro; 2) use a solid black wallpaper; or 3) turn off AOD.

Who's many people? The phone hasn't even been released yet, lmao.

For those who upgrade yearly. Burn in won’t matter. Also I doubt it will happen

Most of the reviews I've read so far. And I know it hasn't, which makes your confident assertion that Apple is "messing this up" all the more puzzling.
Where did I say that Apple is messing this up? And most reviews that I read seem pretty apathetic about this implementation of AoD.

Some people probably have. Some are happy about it. Some are not, maybe they realized it was a bad idea.

Are you allowed to change your mind?

Your watch has burn in? I’ve never seen burn in on any of my oled devices. Thats seems like problems from a decade ago

Set your display Lock Screen to black. Problem solved for you! Now you can be an Android. Enjoy.

I only have a S4 but I‘ve seen a S5, S6 and even a S7 from friends showing the AoD as burn-in when the flashlight mode is on.

Really? You’ve cross checked the poster who you’ve previously seen crying for years against those who are now saying they dislike it, have you?

How so many people consistently fail to realize that there are multiple people on such forums and that they have varying viewpoints is beyond me.
