48MP images are nothing compared to 4K video, so it’s silly to use the new camera as an excuse to revive this old complaint for any reason other than to stir up “engagement”.

Hasselblad X2D files average around 220 megs or so and with the coming Phocus app it would be insane to try and transfer files from the phone app to a computer.

Who transfers/syncs anything using wires nowadays? Not sure the port is anything other than a last-resort in case wifi/cellular isn't available.

It's not 2005 with us synching our iPods through iTunes anymore..

PLENTY of people. Especially Pros. And, well, two of the five iPhone offerings literally have Pro in the name.

Just because one person doesn't (or their market segment doesn't), does not mean there is not a large-enough-to-be-profitable-and-meaningful-to-cater-to segment of those out there who do.

Go to *any* credible, professional studio and anything of consequence is physically connected. It is always faster, lower latency, less PHY layer collision, more secure, and reliable - there are no exceptions unless you intentionally stack the deck with antiquated, old standards on the wired side.

Yes, wireless is almost always much, much more convenient, but many people don't value that over other factors in their work.

It is trivial to have both, but Apple has chosen to keep an antiquated connector to maximize their walled garden around Lightning and push people towards wireless technologies in terms of user behavior so they can realize a fully port/connectorless future. Which is fine, but at least then give us credible wireless options, and Apple is always many years behind the curve in those. They will be nearly two years late to the WiFi 6E party with iPhone 15 (assuming we get it then) and we are just now, maybe, if we get really lucky, going to see LE audio *IF* Apple decides to enable it on AirPods Pro 2 and are just now seeing BT 5.3 (the spec was released as final in July 2021, hahaha).

I have no problem with Apple doing things slowly but doing them RIGHT, but they need to be RIGHT. WiFi 6 as the solution for devices with 1TB storage and generating 1-2Gb per min of video is anything but "right" for a large segment of the "Pro" market.

Maybe take "Pro" out of the name and expectations would better align.

1.5 Gb/s fiber into my office (I am the only user of it). Tests out at exactly that with single digit ms latency on my wired connections and at 400Mbps via WiFi 6 on my MBP 16" (again, my own network, there are no other Wi-Fi networks in range of me). Setting up my new iPhone 14 Pro Max. 11 hours more (been going for one already) to restore. Gee, thanks, Apple - slow WiFi and even slower USB performance. On a "Pro" device.

Apple needs a better experience here. Wireless or wired, I don't care, you can do way better, and the indisputably fastest and most reliable way is a USB 3.1 connection between iPhones or from an iPhone to a computer with a backup.

Honestly, this feels like confirmation that they’re switching to USB-C more than anything. If they were continuing with lightning, they’d have done everything in their power to eliminate any issues keeping lightning around brings to the table. And there was a relatively easy solution. The fact they haven’t used it says that it’s not worth an overhaul because it’s gonna be gone soon

I don't know why some of you are having issues with AirDrop, but like I told the other person, it works flawlessly like 95% of the time with me, whether I'm transferring a couple files or many. And the other 5% are just minor hiccups. And how often are you restoring your phone that the speed is a major factor? As for backups, you can transfer large files to your Mac via AirDrop and your Mac should be backed up.

Look, I couldn't care less what Apple does with Lightning vs. USB-C. I just think people are making a FAR bigger deal about this than it actually is.
Or maybe you’re making a far bigger deal of your sample size of one than that is. 🤷‍♂️ See ”some of you” and ”people (plural)” already are by definition a bigger deal. We’re not using your Airdrop, we’re each using our own, so your experience does not affect our experience in the least bit.

Lightning connector is starting to become a real limiting factor on these phones. It’s time for it to go.
What? Why?

Apple ... read this in Jobs' voice from iPhone OG launch

"We solved this Yeeeeaaars ago"

And they actually did in this case too: Apple solved slow USB data connectivity by using WiFi ... we're at 802.11ax speeds now, why on EARTH (even with usb-c 3.2 stuck at 5Gbps/10Gbps) would you choose USB-C when you have the flexibility to move around your network ?!

I'm sorry, but is this a serious reply? Even in this very thread there are other people saying the same thing as I am, so it's not a "sample size of one" 🙄

And of course there are PLENTY of others just like me out there, but they're not going to start threads like "Hey, just want to let everyone know I'm using AirDrop and it works great" - you normally only get threads when people want to complain.

A realistic setup with 40MHz channels (such as what you’d probably get in a crowded apartment block), a single 802.11ax stream would net you 800Mbps (100MB/sec), or a total network capacity of 3.2Gbps. This is with MIMO 4x4 which the iPhone Pro already has.

There has NEVER been an image or data quality nor corruption issue via AirPlay by Apple!

So ... with your 5Gpbs and being stuck at your desk, in the words of the virgin marry 'come again' ?

Wireless charging is anything but ecological. It uses 75% more energy to do the same job.
That 75% number is not correct. There is a 30% loss versus average wired charging, yes.

That's not ecologically great, but neither is the production, shipping, and recycling (which never happens, they all end up in a landfill) of cables that continually change and everyone hangs on to. When you decouple charge from data, you experience MUCH less churn in standards and connectors. Our cars having Qi pads in them = two less cables for my wife and I, our desks, same.

This transition is not at all without its own footprint, no doubt, but the amount of damn charger/cable junk you can reduce by removing ports is pretty high (and I am actually pro-wired data transfer...for now).

And, if you're charging using upcoming "clean energy" features, etc the efficiency is much less of a concern.

If anyone is familiar with the Toyota Tacoma, toyota has been using drum rear breaks ever since the first iteration of the Tacoma was released. The current 2022 $60K+ Tacoma TRD PRO still uses rear drum breaks. The running joke with Toyota is that they bought millions of sets of rear drum breaks so they are forced to use them up. I suspect a similar situation is happening with Apple. They have hundred of millions of ICs and lighting ports laying around and they have to use them up before using a new standard. That's my guess as to way apple refuses to go USB-C on the iphone.

Apple getting people used to not plugging in their phone for data is probably the biggest indication that they're going to go portless soon.

I'm a pro photographer and I often shoot events where I'm wirelessly transmitting from my camera to my phone and either uploading to my site as the event progresses or AirDropping the photos to my client. I haven't plugged my iPhone into anything for a long while and I don't miss it because I can transfer 300 photos to my client via AirDrop in half a minute.

Try again because not everyone has the same needs as you. It really is simple.

You will not catch me transferring hundreds of 85MB Raw files over WiFi. Especially with the inefficient interface of an iPhone. My WiFi is plenty fast, but if I have hundreds of things to move I will be doing so physically and not just because of the speed of physical links but also usability.

Apple could work around this by improving the experience for these use cases, they haven't done so yet.

You have the numbers and financials already? All the return data too?

Would the sales be higher if more could utilize the 48MP and ProRaw?
Lol I don’t need the financials apple is going to have a record breaking sales this weekend. People gotta have the latest tech phone Carrier’s sweeten the deals with there $800-$1,000 trade ins . people do not mind being in payment plans forever 😂. But with that being said . Sales gonna be high weather you can utilize 48mp and ProRaw or not .

APPLE CANNOT LOOSE
