Suppliers for the upcoming iPhone 14 reportedly feel uncertain about how high demand will be for Apple's upcoming flagship lineup, according to supply chain sources speaking to DigiTimes.

A paywalled preview of a full story set to be published tomorrow says "uncertainty remains about demand for the new models between the end of the fourth quarter and the beginning of first-quarter 2023." Apple and its suppliers have been ramping up shipments of components ahead of mass production, which is expected to begin later this month.

Despite suppliers' uncertain sentiment, Apple is expecting the iPhone 14 series to perform quite well. Just last week, it was reported that Apple had informed suppliers to increase iPhone 14 shipments by 5% to 95 million units, higher than what the company was initially expecting.

One reason suppliers may feel uncertain about demand is a reported increase in the price of the higher-end models of the iPhone 14 lineup. Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that the price of the iPhone 14 lineupmay increase, possibly due to both models starting with an increased 256GB of storage.

Other than a possible price increase, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are expected to gain several noteworthy features, including a 48MP camera, a new pill-shaped and hole-punch display cutout, better performance, and more. For a specific set of reasons, I have to buy the iPhone on amazon, therefore I already imagine I'll have to wait for my iPhone 14 Pro for a while.

Regarding the price hike: It's all in the spin. Apple will be marketing it with phrases like, "Due to high demand for our higher capacity models, this year we will be upgrading the lowest storage tier to 256GB! It's what plants crave!"

(Okay... I suppooooooose maybe they won't use that last line, but we'll just have to wait and see, to be sure...)

Of course they will try to put a positive spin on it instead of saying "We dropped the 128GB because there is a shortage of 128GB chips". But as long as the price increase as as much as the 256GB upgrade, I really don't care about it.

There may be more than a handful of us waiting to see if and when the iPhone gets USB-C.

I usually upgrade every third year. I am using 11Pro, so skipped 12 and 13, so the 14 should have been the upgrade model, but I’ll pass this year for next year’s USB-C model. If it doesn’t, I’ll just wait until one comes along since the 11Pro is still doing fine.

All that and the fact that the 14 is the 13 with a different name and higher price tag to keep Apple investors (not custoemers) happy.
So sad Apple is the least big tech company in the planet and the the government had to ban foreign more innovative companies to help a white elephant.

I’ll be upgrading for no other reason than my completely unfounded and irrational aversion to the number 13. I am not at all superstitious. Can’t explain it.
Are you saying that you have an aversion to the number 13 yet you bought an iPhone 13 last year?

I skipped last year for the first time since the 5. Hoping the price isn’t so crazy I have to skip again
