Bruhhh, What's up with these suppliers? Why do they cry? Do they not see Apple's Quarterly earnings every quarter, especially for the iPhone? It's nothing but massively profit? I don't understand what they are worried about.
They be worrying a whole lot about nuffin’. They need to dry it up and grow a pair. Everything will be fine.

I agree. It feels like there is a pattern they are following. Free marketing for the iPhone. Why do we get the same news every year? 😞
this is the same rumor circulated every year...it just drives demand for the new iPhones. It puts doubt in peoples mind that there might be shortage. So they better order at launch or it will be backordered and hard to get one.

Functionally I’d guess they’re about the same. Personally I’m quite amused at the prospect of the dot and dash combo forming an “i” and making it a true iPhone at last. I’m eager to see it. I do plan on getting one. I’m trading in my 13 Pro that I don’t care all that much for.
You’re gonna be trading in for the same phone with two holes. Good luck.

That's fine. I'm waiting for a price drop on the 13 Mini, (after the event) and keeping it for two years before I switch to a pro with a much better camera system (real zoom lens by the 16 I think?) and USB C.

This is one of those things that make absolute sense on an individual level, and if I was in your position I'd likely do the same, but overall it's incredibly wasteful behaviour that we collectively need to stop.

Hey, I'm a teeny tiny fish in this large pond of a world. We can drill down all day with righteous indignation about what is wasteful behavior and what isn't to the point of absurdity, but I have no intention of doing so.

Expecting people to "collectively" stop such wasteful behavior is about as obtuse as expecting to empty the world's prisons and not see crime explode, or expecting people in power to limit their travel to negate climate change. It's all talk, and when it comes down to it, none of them walk the walk.

So, my impact on this world is all ready pretty small. I work a simple job, my TV is 10+ years old. I have a cat as a pet. And the big one. I didn't reproduce. Probably the single biggest thing a human being can do to not be wasteful. Having no offspring. The planet has more than enough new human beings without me kicking out a few more complete with my genetic predispositions for heart problems and substance abuse.

So me getting a new phone every year is really small beans. My carrier takes the old one back and sells it to someone a little less well off than I am and it stays in use for years and years. There was a time in my life not so long ago where getting a new phone every year simply wasn't in the cards. Now it is. Short of me living in a tent, my footprint is relatively small otherwise.

Not sure why the suppliers are uncertain about the demand. That's not their job. That's Apple's job. They have the data. Rest assured iPhone 14 will set like hot cakes around the world. They will instantly be back-ordered.
They have to be prepared with their staffing and production hardware ramp ups (or ramp downs). If Apple suddenly cuts the order, they will be stuck with unutilized capex that is a burden to them and underutilized staff. They are not here to do charity for Apple. They also want to make profits.

I wonder what percentage of sales will the 14 Max (non Pro) hit? Surely 40%+ ??? I guess the 6.1 inch non pro is the most popular now??? No idea to be honest. Max is the more popular of the pro phones I think.

EDIT: I think it could be 50%+ actually. I reckon that thing will sell out instantly.

I thought it was 15pro with superior Telescope Lens.
Though tiny fonts from beloved 12 mini are making reading slightly difficult.
I'll take 14 Pro for next 2 years approx.

Totally agree.

It makes all the sense at the individual level, to your point, while at the same time being a really bad result from capitalism run amok.

Apple aren’t putting out releases that are “ready” or that have really amazing innovations to offer. They are just sticking to a yearly schedule of releasing “something” to keep the money printer rolling.

In some senses, it’s pretty depressing, as it’s straying quite far from “great product company” ideology.

There may be more than a handful of us waiting to see if and when the iPhone gets USB-C.

I usually upgrade every third year. I am using 11Pro, so skipped 12 and 13, so the 14 should have been the upgrade model, but I’ll pass this year for next year’s USB-C model. If it doesn’t, I’ll just wait until one comes along since the 11Pro is still doing fine.
Why does the cable bother people so much? Just order whatever you need off Amazon.

It's nice to have all devices using the same cable/plug (i.e. all USB-C)
"Nice" is all well and good... that's just describing a convenience factor to which many people would promptly crow, "First world problem!" in a mocking imitation of Weird Al.

I think what our friendly Texan was trying to get at is: why is Apple's choice of cable connectors for the iPhone viewed as an actual deal breaker for some consumers? Especially if that consumer already has Apple devices, and therefore, Apple cables?
