I’m skeptical myself: in this economy and with the alleged price increases for the Pro models, I can’t see how the 14 series can even match the 13 series. I think the 14 Max (non-pro) will be their most popular model this time around.

Am I the only one who thinks the notch is a better solution than punching out a bunch of smaller holes in the display? I'd rather there were no notch or cutouts of any kind, but the notch doesn't bother me that much (and usually isn't even visible), but I feel like dots/holes would be more bothersome, like you have flecks of food on your screen or something.

I suspect Apple can't get A16 chips in high demand because of process yield or other limitations. If thats true, limiting new chips to just the pro and bumping up the base specs (and price) are just ways to limit demand of a low-volume part.

Well, if you're going to go there... an argument could also be made for a straight-line "forehead" instead of a notch. Obviously that argument has fallen on deaf ears, within the Apple design group.

Personally, I don't see a particular problem with either solution. Bottom line, the aspect ratio of the screen is wider than most video content, so the notched area doesn't meaningfully intrude upon that unless you intentionally zoom in. Older apps which haven't been optimized will just display in a 16:9 view anyway -- and suddenly your iPhone looks like it has both a forehead and a chin all over again, like it's 2017. And newer apps can be tweaked to either take advantage of the extra space around the notch (or bullet holes) or not, depending upon the developer's preference. And I think most newer apps have already been designed to put only decorations and avoid putting controls in that region, so aesthetically, most apps will probably already look halfway decent with the bullet holes.

But yeah... the eventual under-screen camera solution will be a welcome change, once it can be done to Apple's standards.

To be fair. You don't know what model the commenter is on. For all you know they are rocking a 5S and feel it is time to upgrade. I am getting it because this 12 Pro Max battery health is at 75%. Not a huge fan

Functionally I’d guess they’re about the same. Personally I’m quite amused at the prospect of the dot and dash combo forming an “i” and making it a true iPhone at last. I’m eager to see it. I do plan on getting one. I’m trading in my 13 Pro that I don’t care all that much for.

Wow, Doctor... I'm rocking a 12 Pro Max as well which I had preordered for a release date delivery, but my battery life is at 91%. I thought I was a pretty heavy user, too... but I suppose I do try to keep it plugged into power as often as possible, so maybe that's the difference.

(Love the reference, by the way -- though I'm more of an old-school Tom Baker fan, myself. "Care for a Jelly Baby?")

That would be ideal. People stop buying phones once a year, Apple stops releasing them once a year, and we get actual next-gen releases when the tech is ready and worth launching.

But it'll never happen. Because Cook.

Exactly how reliable has Digitimes been with these sorts of rumors?

Amazingly we have an answer to that: ~60%

You have been warned.

Wow, that's pretty fast degredation of the battery. Or maybe mine is slow. My iPhone is also at 75% and I'm also looking to upgrade (in large part because of the battery), except mine is an iPhone X from 2017.

Ooh ooh ooh! It's got "several noteworthy features, including a 48MP camera, a new pill-shaped and hole-punch display cutout, better performance, and more." I was just saying to a friend the other day, "If only the new iPhone had a pill-shaped punch display, I'd buy one immediately!"

You gotta wonder where Apple's mojo went when the second-most significant upgraded feature is a small change in the shape of the punch display. And a 48MP camera? We're getting to the point where the difference in camera pixels is invisible to the human eye. Unless you regularly blow up your pics to the size of your bedroom wall.

The main reason these days for upgrading your phone is loss of battery holding power. And that's only because they make it so darn hard to replace your battery.

Just turning out the same old recycled crap - year after year - a little bump here, a little bump there - release a 'New!' product and make it mostly out of old parts!!! - go with old designs year on year - two years behind on so many technical fronts - look at what those in charge of Apple have delivered over the last ten years and check out what they are paid! - no one in a normal company would last - it's appauling - the lack of any signifinacnt innovation is embarrassing! - Steve Jobs would turn in his grave!...oh, wait....its all OK...I can get it in a different colour!!! yey!!...ignore the other comments.

My carrier offers annual upgrades with trade in. My bill doesn't go up, and I'm not stuck with an old phone after 36 months that's worth $150.

So it's just easier for me to upgrade once a year and enjoy the newest phone. I don't consider it wasted money, I consider it treating myself.

This is one of those things that make absolute sense on an individual level, and if I was in your position I'd likely do the same, but overall it's incredibly wasteful behaviour that we collectively need to stop.

Gladly 🚽 - I have the 13pro while spouse has 12pro, camera differences between the two are so wide, that she must have a 14pro. World travelers here, so want to make sure we have the latest and greatest.
