This is just another example of the WSJ trying to manipulate the Apple stock price for their rich buddies. Like the "iPhone 14 orders cut" rumor that made millions for short sellers. Us poor mortals and our 401K's are just cash machines for these wall street jerks.

1 - this is not a rant - more like a sad realization

2 - potential life-saving feature - I agree - but I think it's over hyped. This will be an issue constantly as long as you use accelerometers to detect car crash. We are traveling in many ways and putting your safety in the hands of a phone - at least at this stage is beyond insanity.
Again - you mention this is a life-saving feature - if it's exactly the reason people should be turning it off and then on when they jump on roller coasters - you're pretty much signing up for an "extreme" experience.

You're gonna tell me next that sky diving or any other sports report as car crash and people shouldn't turn the feature off?

If so - I can already tell you that you are confirming the sad realization that humanity has hit the bottom in terms of using their heads.
Rubbish. I took a massive fall on my MTB and my AW5 started to call 911. I was ok enough to take care of myself and stopped the call, but it could have saved my life. And that's the only time fall detection has gone off.

So, a roller coaster will trigger the crash detection? As a coaster enthusiast, I'd like to know which one? Or was it the Crash Test Dummies ride at Walt Disney World?

And why is there no mention of bumper cars in this story. Since bumper cars are the ride actually simulates a crash?
From what I am hearing the primary culprit are RMCs. They typically have relentless pacing and often slam into the final break run.

Which specific RMCs? I've ridden New Texas Giant and Iron Rattler and I don't recall being slammed on either. Unless you mean the raptor model in which case, I rode Wonder Woman Golden Lasso. I don't recall getting slammed in the breaks, but I did get aggressively yanked around the track. (I ended up in the very back on my first and only ride.)

So people aren't allowed to have car crashes on the street just outside the theme park? GPS often isn't that accurate.
Luckily Apple just added more location support alongside GPS in the iPhone 14 Pros - Galileo etc

OnStar has been providing automoble crash detection and notification for years. In my opinion this is Apple is trying to do what OnStar has doing better for years, because OnStars's crash detection is built into the automobile. Whenever I get an iPhone with crash detection, it will be turned OFF.
After a free year, who pays for OnStar!!

You should get this checked with a neurologist. Things to consider: leaking aneurysm, subarachnoid or subdural bleeding, etc. MRI for sure.

Or just situational vertigo. I get it, sometimes quite severe. It seems to have abated somewhat as I did some inverted dives earlier this year and didn't spend the next 3 days bombed on Meclizine. (Auto-correct tried mescaline which would be a whole different trip)

I also get it watching some scenes on both TV and computers. It's not all that uncommon to have those symptoms, and the previous poster's symptoms track pretty close to mine. But anything that dulls the neurological system can work. Beer, wine, etc. Use in moderation though. Personally I fing a 'drink my way around Epcot' gets me set for the rides. IN MODERATION... (And hang on to your iPhone and glasses)

Apparently almost no one. An ex-employee of a client got a job at their 'customer retention center' and was surprised how many people didn't realize they had it for x-number of years. It was never used, and the question 'why would I want to pay for something that I have never used' was common. They celebrated people that re-upped their subscription it was so hard to sell.

Sirius/XM is another service that people have a hard time paying for. They usually use it because the dealers usually demonstrate it for customers, but many (most?) don't resubscribe, but I would think they have a slightly higher retention rate than OnStar.

I am 100% sure theme parks would not allow guests to bring their phones onto the rollercoasters.

Edit 2: I noticed that Sami deleted his comment 🤔🤔🤔
I work at Universal, and we have metal detectors you have to pass through before entering the queue line for a few of our roller coasters. And let me tell you, there are a lot of guests who are shocked we don’t allow phones on our rides. Almost every other park I’ve been to is extremely lenient with their “no loose articles” policy. So if guests could, they absolutely would bring their phone with them on the ride.

Hey I pay for two SiriusXM satellite subscriptions.

(Me too) I often wake up and find myself on a long road trip across the state. Only slightly kidding. I used to drive a whole lot more, and having XM (at the time) was a sanity saver driving across country. Some of the stations that I could find on terrestrial radio were so sucking my will to live. YIKES! So satellite radio was a 'no-brainer'. I even bought one of those XM add-on things with an FM feeder. Sometimes it was stomped by other subscribers that were close enough, and powerful enough. I once listened to several minutes of the Howard Stern Show and couldn't tell who it was coming from. My unit was totally drowned out by theirs. #FirstWorldProblems.

I've heard of people taking pictures on rides to show what's in the dark around them. Interesting, but not a great idea.

"Oh my God!" the 911 dispatcher yelled to her supervisor. "There are another 36 severe car crashes on the Jurassic Park coaster in Universal Studios! Send another several dozen ambulances."

If Apple doesn't figure out a simple solution, I'm guessing 911 operators will realize there aren't that many crashes inside the amusement parks. (Hopefully.)

That's one I'll never give money to again. They make it so painful to cancel and when I did the only way to do so was with a phone call.

I tried to quit a few years ago, and got a ridiculous deal to stay. I blinked, they won. I still like it, but have a car that has a roof rack, and it seems to block the signal at times. Weird...
