After picking up my old iPhone X, I was astonished at how much lighter/nicer to hold it was in comparison to my iPhone 13 pro. If they can make the next gen lighter without it affecting the price, that would be a much welcomed upgrade.
Agreed, the iPhone X was just perfect to carry and hold.

solid-state volume and power buttons

I'm really curious to see how this will work.

When the iPhone switched to the solid-state home button... it had a capacitive ring around the button to make it operate.

But the volume and power buttons are very skinny and usually covered by a case.

So... will it be pressure-sensitive? Or something else?

🤔

"Although titanium is about two-thirds heavier than aluminum, its inherent strength means that you need less of it. In fact, you need a fraction of the amount of titanium to get the same physical strength you would get with aluminum."

Will be interesting to see, how Apple uses this. Could make the phone a bit thinner and get around the same weight as they would with aluminum. Or make it stronger and not quite as light.

If they finally make the Pro out of titanium it’ll make it a LOT lighter and more pleasant to use.
It won't, the frame already weighs almost nothing just look at how little the diff is between the iphone 14 and 14 pro, especially taking into account how much extra stuff there is in the 14 pro.

I would like to see an all metal case again. And where Magsafe is, unapologetic plastic or so. Shall feel more rugged than the current line
Just doesn't work as well for signal strength. The first iPhone had a plastic back at the bottom to solve this however it only had 2G, Bluetooth and WiFi, didn't even have GPS. Now you've 2G up to 5G for 2 networks, mmWave 5G, WiFi with MIMO, Bluetooth, GPS and Ultra Wide Band off the top of my head. Maybe forgetting something. :)

Point is it won't work as well or at all. Notice they have to cut out of the metal frame on the iPhone in the US to put in the mmWave so that works.

It's 34 grams difference which is quite a bit. A good amount of that I suspect is down to the stainless steel frame. Stainless steel isn't light.

That would be awesome

I really hope that Apple does in fact go back to a curved edge design

I much prefer the ergonomic design of the iPhone XS and 11 over the iPhone 12, 13 and 14

So true. I still didn't switch back to iPhone because of that reason. It feels so bad holding it in the hand especially for a longer period of time. The boxy design was cool the first time when it was introduced on the iPhone 4 or 5? But now it really feels outdated. It looks great on the iPad Pro but that's an iPad and you hold a phone differently.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G is so nicely designed and feels great in the hand. I imagine the iPhone 15 will be similar with the rounded edges.

what ever became of Apple licensing of Liquid Metal (aside from the sim eject tool). They were renewing their license to the material every year for several years ... and then nothing

It makes sense that Apple would do this - it matches the bottom half of the latest MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

I'd be curious to know how much of the weight of the iPhone is from the body... versus everything inside the body.

Battery, cameras, lenses, Taptic Engine, etc.

And we can't forget the screen. Glass is heavy!

:p
We kind of know (minus some camera machinery) based on the weight of the Pro/Pro Max vs the iPhone 14/14 plus.

The stainless steel contributes to a significant amount of weight.

This iPhone 5c form factor and the dynamic island would be 2 good reasons for me to finally upgrade my iPhone X, which I bought 5 years ago for similar reasons.
