The iPhone 15 will support Wi-Fi 6E, according to a research note shared this week by Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley. The analysts did not specify whether the feature will be available on all models or limited to the Pro models.

Apple has added Wi-Fi 6E support to a handful of devices so far, including the latest 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini models, while all iPhone 14 models remain limited to standard Wi-Fi 6.

Wi-Fi 6 operates on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, while Wi-Fi 6E also works over the 6GHz band, allowing for faster wireless speeds, lower latency, and less signal interference. To take advantage of these benefits, the device must be connected to a Wi-Fi 6E router, which are available from brands like TP-Link, Asus, and Netgear.

Wi-Fi 6E was also rumored for iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models and failed to materialize, but now that Apple has started rolling out Wi-Fi 6E support to its latest devices, it is more likely that the iPhone 15 will finally support the standard.

Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max in September as usual. Rumors suggest all four models will feature the Dynamic Island and a USB-C port, while the Pro models are expected to gain Apple's latest A17 Bionic chip, a titanium frame, solid-state volume and power buttons, and more.

Apple has a support document with more details about Wi-Fi 6E.

Update: Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has corroborated the report from Barclays, and he too suggests the iPhone 15 models will adopt Wi-Fi 6E.

Wow... what a quality of life improvement especially when my fiber will never saturate WiFi 6E.

Other than that this will be my next iPhone with a 3nm chip! :-D I just hope Apple puts in a larger mAh battery than my 2021 iPhone 13 Pro Max 5nm so I enjoy the die shrink's performance per watt improvements and battery life. I want the battery life of a 2000 Nokia 3310.

What I'd like to see is whether the 2023 iPhone 15 Pro chip can be repurposed with 2022 macOS Ventura or newer in a future $699 2024 Macbook 12" or a $299-399 2024 Mac mini/nano using a $149 2022 Apple TV 4K enclosure.

For those worried that any Mac using a 3nm iPhone 15 Pro chip would be too slow odds are it will outperform a 2019 MBP 16" Core i9 14nm.

Where are we on WiFi 7? 6E is so 2022. In all seriousness, I am looking forward to the increasing efficiency of these phones. I love my 12 mini, but my new job has me wearing out the battery pretty quick.
Tiny phones have tiny batteries that's why it doesn't last that long.

That was a problem from 2007-2014 before the introduction of the Plus models

Agreed, but I've always bought the smaller devices, I'm not a phablet kind of person. My battery took a hit from poor charging practices while deployed and now I use it very frequently for a new job and wireless CarPlay. I will have to finally step up to a normal sized one. Still love the smaller form factor of the mini.

It's not just about speed but gadget priority on your system. If AR is going to be a hit, you will will need a good connection. This is where if Apple is serious about entering this field, they should do some ground work and release a new airport. Stick with the Apple mantra, it just works. Spending 3k on AR goggles, hundreds on fast internet only to have the whole experience damaged because of spotty wifi makes no sense.

Seems a lot of people in this thread are missing out on a huge benefit of the 6 GHz band. Less congestion thanks to fewer devices being on it means not only faster speeds, but shorter latency as well.

You can benefit from that no matter how fast your internet access is.

There’s so much more to good WiFi than raw speeds. 6 and 6E are game chargers in regards to those factors.

This person gets it. Wait for Wi-Fi 7 next year. It's going to blow Wi-Fi 6E right out of the water.

Think about it. You walk into an electronics store and see Wi-Fi 6E routers sittin' there, then there's Wi-Fi 7 routers right beside them. Which one are you gonna pick, man? Wi-Fi 7. Bingo, man! Bingo!

7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 Dwarves. 7, man. That's the number.

"7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch." You know that old children's tale from the sea.

Wifi 6E is overkill.

I have the fastest internet in my area (Colorado), and it is only Wifi 6.
Just like gigabit+ Ethernet, until recently, it’s never been about faster internet. Your isp is likely to always be the bottleneck there. It’s about faster device to device transfers, faster NAS access, less interference, and better multi-device connections to the router/ap. A better LAN has always been about that, and rarely about better internet speeds.

Do you live in the suburbs or in a dense city? 6E is in no way overkill for those of us in crowded 2.4/5 GHz environments.

If you live on a ranch with no neighbors then sure, 6E won’t do anything for you (assuming you don’t have >1Gb Fiber)

Instead of Wifi 6e, Apple could have just enabled 160Mhz Channel width for 5Ghz and it would have had EXACT SAME speed increase instead of upgrading to 6e router and it’s relatively poor coverage on 6Ghz band. Even 2022 iPad Pro doesn’t do above and has 160Mhz on 6Ghz so we have to buy ridiculously expensive 6e routers.

Only Pixel 6a, 7 have 160Mhz 5Ghz capability.

😔

wifi 6e does not offer faster speeds or lower latency, wifi 6e is just extra 6Ghz bands, it offers the same speeds as wifi 6. wifi 6e works only at very short distances from the router…. 3-10 feet. over longer distances, it switches to the 5ghz or 2.4 ghz. I am using an asus ET12 router.
Those short distances and lack of ability to make it through lots of walls is a good thing. It greatly reduces interference from all the other people around you.
