Apple's upcoming iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will support the new Qi2 wireless charging standard, according to ChargerLAB, a reliable source of charging-related information. The first Qi2-certified chargers are expected to be available in time for the 2023 holiday season, according to the Wireless Power Consortium.

Qi2 is based on Apple's MagSafe standard, meaning that Qi2 chargers will likely be able to charge iPhone 15 models at up to 15W speeds like Apple's MagSafe Charger. With current iPhones, non-MagSafe wireless chargers are limited to 7.5W speeds.

ChargerLAB notes that Qi2 chargers do not need to use Apple's pricy MagSafe module, and are not required to be certified under Apple's "Made for iPhone" program, which will bring more affordable MagSafe-like chargers to the market. The website confirmed with supply chain sources that the wholesale price of Apple's MagSafe module is about $16, while the Qi2 module apparently costs less than one third as much.

ChargerLAB and its Chinese sister website Chongdiantou appear to be the source behind the rumor from earlier this week claiming that iPhone 15 models will support 15W charging with third-party chargers. The websites have leaked several accurate charging-related details about future iPhones and Apple power adapters in the past.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 15 lineup in September. MagSafe is expected to remain supported on the devices alongside Qi2.

I think its time for apple to move on to higher charging speeds 15w and 25w is getting to be a bit out dated now this look at most android phones now days they can do between 50w to 80w charging speed time for apple to speed up the paces

wireless charging is an useless gimmick for phones. wait, not useless, but more harmful - wasting a lot of energy and heating up the phone.
and it sucks even more if you're trying to charge your iPhone at 8% charge with a crappy tesla model3 on a slightly warmer day and you keep getting over temperature alarms.

why can't be just get faster speed, 15w isnt fast enough, we dont care if now non MagSafe chargers work at 15w we would like much faster speed, in 2023 every android is faster than MagSafe

Meanwhile on Aliexpress you can find MagSafe like charger with built in AW charger and 1m usb-c cable 😅

So maybe that’s the future of Apple charging.

Haha exactly! 15w charging in 2023 is an absolute travesty.
From an industry standards perspective, isn't 15W wireless charging pretty much the max for phones today? The new pixel can wirelessly charge at 23W but you do have to use a proprietary charger, which I suppose is what the MagSafe was. I imagine now that MagSafe is part of Qi2, Apple will want to create MagSafe2 to support higher wattage and charge more for that.

I never mentioned anything about wireless charging speeds in that post. However, I don't consider MagSafe to be a true wireless charging solution, because you can't just grab your phone off the charger and go. It must be pulled or pushed off the charger with force. Might as well be hard wired at that point. I hated MagSafe charging my last iPhone. With my Z Fold 4, I just pick up my phone and go. But yes, other phones out there offer faster wireless and much faster wired charging speeds than anything Apple currently offers.

Sorry, I assumed you were talking about wireless given that was the subject of the thread.

From a wired perspective, totally agree Apple can definitely improve. Right now my Pro Max can consume up to 27W, which isn't bad, but many Android devices can eat up more. Older devices are limited to 15W (or 18W) wired but latest devices aren't.

Only chinese phones and maybe one plus has faster wireless charging. even samsung is only 15w. it's said it will be 20w wireless on apples cables.

Yes, Samsung s23+ & ultra is 15W/45W (wireless/wired);
but then you have Xiaomi 13 pro charging at 50W/120W..

This doesn’t have anything to do with EU… Apple essentially donated their standard and I’m assuming their patents to Qi. Thanks, Apple.*
Apple doing something nice for free??

No way. They will probably announce a proprietary 65w wireless charging technology with the iPhone 15.

Nothing wrong with using a wired charger in your case or if you want to charge faster or with less heat
